You know what I hate about people who can not understand what is important?
Well, Artemis just gave away our food to a mother and a child after she almost died saving them.
So... Considerate of her...
She just gets to make all the decisions around here. Forget about the two first-rank adventurers who are tasked with the two gods' safety, pfft, who cares about their opinion?
I would still give them food, but half, not most of the supply Hermes brought, only leaving us with Bread.
Well, I had food stored in my pouch so there's that...
"Alright, Let's go."
I hummed, turning back to the dragon that was looking at us curiously. Patting its snout, I grabbed the reigns and jumped on the saddle behind Ais who never got off. She leaned against my chest wordlessly and I looked at the two gods.
"Bell, why don't we take a break?"
Hermes asked with a smile and I felt my annoyance bubble up. all this trip he has been trying and failing to push me and Artemis closer, only to do the opposite.
"Oh, I'm sorry, you want us to delay saving the world from a monster that can use divine energy?"
I asked, looking at him with a raised eyebrow. He sighed and nodded in resignation.
"You're right, you're right..."
He muttered as I wrapped an arm around Ais, immediately feeling her hand on top of my own as if she was prepared, her fingers slid between mine as she squeezed my hand
We still had daylight, we could get there a lot sooner if we didn't delay.
The dragon lifted off, flapping its wings as we ascended into the sky.
"You don't like Artemis..."
Ais pointed out after we got a steady flight path. My eyes drifted down to her blonde hair, looking at her in silence for a few moments. I wondered when she would ask about that...
"She reminds me of someone from my past... They're similar, too similar, it's like her existence is mocking me..."
I looked up again staring forward and remaining silent.
I was expecting many things from her, asking about who Artemis reminded me of, what happened to the person I was talking about, who was she... Further questioning, basically.
What I didn't expect was her just leaning into me further and squeezing my hand reassuringly.
Just like that, our roles were reversed, her comforting me silently, and me being comforted... It felt nice...
Damn.
I think it was bout time I moved on, it's been almost fifteen years...
I sighed, placing my chin on top of her head.
I was clinging to the past too much...
___
Something was wrong.
I could feel it in the distance. A large gathering of power, divinity to be more precise. My eyes narrowed as my mana flared and I tugged at the reigns. The dragon slowed down, and we were flying next to Hermes and Artemis.
"What's wrong, Bell?"
Hermes asked as I was looking at the sky. I let go of the reigns and raised my hand to the sky, magic circles coming to life around my arm.
A golden barrier formed around the four of us as the divinity build up I felt shot into the sky, and a second later, descended on us like a rain of mana arrows.
The barrier flashed every time a beam of divinity impacted it, absorbing the power and fueling it for the next beam and repeating the process.
"What was that?!"
Hermes exclaimed as the onslaught of divine beams ended. I simply lowered my hand ang grabbed the reigns again, ignoring the look I got from Ais.
"Familia secrets."
I shrugged as Hermes furrowed his eyebrows at me but finally sighed.
"We're close by, we should fly lower to the ground."
I nodded, pressing my palm against the base of the dragon's neck and it descended right above the trees.
Soon enough, we descended in the camp where Hermes Familia members were, I looked over them, my eyes scanning them even as I helped Ais down from the saddle.
They were... Would be of no help. I doubted anyone here was above level three.
"Ah, It's good to be back, my children! Good job holding down the fort. Does anyone know where my beautiful Asfi is?"
I looked over at the God for a moment, raising an eyebrow.
I felt a squeeze on my hand, and I looked down, seeing that Ais never let go. I looked at her for a moment, her face impassive as she looked over at me with a curious gaze, as if asking what was wrong.
I hummed in thought, before squeezing her hand back slightly and looking forward again.
Nothing was wrong.
