Chapter Thirty-Nine

"We're in big trouble here, Bell."

Finn hummed from next to me, leaning on the balcony. I just nodded, the situation seemed more dire than I would have guessed. My eyes trailed up, looking at the moon for a moment.

From what Artemis told, this "Antares" monster had her divinity, or more precisely, her body that contained the said divinity.

"If that monster can use that Divinity, the monsters will most likely react violently, might even try to storm the upper floors."

I nodded again, running a hand through my hair. This entire situation was troublesome enough as it was, and now I had to go and take care of it.

"Ais wants to go with you, but we will need her here to deal with any unexpected."

I sighed. Well, there goes the help I hoped for.

"I won't be taking Shohei or Ava with me either, they're... not ready for this, I can't risk it..."

He nodded, his eyes staring into the distance, thinking.

"I'll see what I can do..."

He turned around and went back inside the mansion and I just stared up at the moon.

"The moon is beautiful, Isn't it?"

I closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath...

"... It is, isn't it?"

I breathed out.

"Fuck..."

I muttered as mana flooded my limbs and I moved toward the wall where the others would be meeting up with me, leaving a shadow behind to inform them of my decision.

___

"Are you sure it's a good decision to leave you're Familia members behind, Bell?"

My eyes trailed to the side, focusing on Hermes.

"I don't remember you having any authority over what goes on in another Familia."

He sighed in resignation, and I looked back forward over the wall. My thoughts were a fucking mess.

I made sure my face remained impassive as I waited for the dragons to arrive that he managed to acquire from the Ganaisha Familia.

"You're so mean to me, Bell, you didn't even accept the clothes that I wanted to custom make for you."

I ignored him, along with Artemis who was standing slightly to the side awkwardly. My armor was far better than any clothes he could provide, why would I change it for something that was made by someone who didn't even know how I fought?

However, it seemed like common sense was lost on these gods. Like Artemis over there, who heard that there was a mission to investigate a place where an ancient monster was sealed away, and thought it was a good idea to investigate with her mediocre Familia.

I was irritable, easily so, and this god was doing nothing to help my current emotional state.

Even when I didn't want to be a hero, the world was basically forcing me to do this... No, it wasn't the world, I was at fault for being in this situation.

If it wasn't for my dumbass that decided to override the seals on that stupid arrow, I wouldn't be here. The world was at fault for many things, but this wasn't one of them...

Damn, I'm an idiot...

My ears caught the sound of something clicking against the stone wall in the distance, it wasn't as slow as Shohei's or Avas, so it wasn't them.

I turned my head to the side and raised an eyebrow, seeing the Ais in the distance, running to us in the distance. She was wearing her armor, and I took a breath.

When I wanted help from the Loki Familia, I thought they would deal with it themselves.

But at this point, I was glad to see her here.

I smiled, turning in her direction fully.

A bit later, she slowed down, coming to a stop in front of me and we had a staredown.

"... I snuck out."

Bruh...

"Really?"

I raised an inquisitive eyebrow, and she trailed her eyes to the side, awkwardly, pink dusting her cheeks.

"... I left a letter..."

Oh, yes, because that made it so much better...

"Ah, and here I was, planning to ride the dragon by my lonesome, seems like the Sword Princess will be keeping me company!"

Hermes threw his hands up and I narrowed my eyes as Ais tensed at the word "Dragon". There was a story there, for sure.

But I ignored that for now and turned to Hermes.

"And why do you assume that?"

Hermes grinned, putting his hands on his hips like he did something to be proud of.

"Well, since you are riding with Artemis-"

I cut him off right there.

"I'm not."

I narrowed my eyes at God, as he looked at me with surprise.

"I never said I would be. I would be riding alone if Ais didn't come here."

He blinked.

"... O-oh..."

He muttered, his expression turning serious for a split second, a crack in his mask that I have known was present since the start. I have talked to too many people like him.
