Chương 79: Shadow Knight Joins a Party

The territory of Helios had become the most visited territory over the past few days. With permission given to invade the castle of endless shadows, many people flocked into the territory. Many high-ranking officials were present to regulate the entry of the castle, as those present numbered in the thousands.

One would wonder if all those gathered were joining in on the raid. However, some were there to conduct business, selling armour and protective clothing, while others were there to report on what was transpiring. Parties were allowed into the castle every three hours as allowing everyone in at a go might cause a commotion.

The sudden appearance of a blue-haired young man on the scene drew everyone's attention. He immediately became the topic of conversation. Many parties quickly approached him, offering him deals to join their party.

"He was bound to appear sooner than later, the strongest Quint, Shadow Knight."

"Being a dual wielder of Shadow and Light, it doesn't seem surprising. This is a chance for him, really. He could comprehend a few things going on there. Maybe we should invite him to join our party."

"Do you think he will accept? After all, we don't have much to offer him."

"Maybe, who knows?"

"Lily, don't look down on our party like that."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. He doesn't look like he will accept it anyway."

"Still, we could give it a shot…eek", she shrieked, pointing towards the floor.

One person's shadow had extended from him as if it were alive. Shadow Knight emerged from the shadow and greeted them. He was out of breath after dealing with all the parties clamouring towards him.

"Hi, I'm Jack. You can call me Shadow Knight. I would like to join your party."

"I didn't think he would approach us first", Lily whispered.

A man in a grey tank top with black hair greeted him first. "I'm Sessie, the black-haired young lady in blue there is Lily, that guy in red is Ian, and the yellow-haired young lady there is Esca, nice to meet you."

Jack glanced at them and smiled, "Nice to meet you too."

"How are we going to split whatever loot we may find in there, in addition to the prized money should we find the said object?"

"I propose we take ninety per cent, and he takes ten…"

"Keep it all. I have no interest in any loot found, neither do I have interest in the prized money. I am just here to get stronger. That alone is enough of a reward for me." Jack set things straight.

They all looked at him in shock. Who would be crazy enough to let go of such an amount? It was their first time encountering a person this peculiar.

"Are you sure you will be okay with just that?" Sessie asked for a confirmation.

"Yes. That would be enough for me."

"Okay then, welcome to the party. We will be in your care."

"Likewise."

A hooting sound signalled for the parties to gather at the entrance of the castle of endless shadows. Three hours have elapsed since the last groups went in. It was time for the others to proceed as well.

A green-eyed dark man with an athletic build raced through the streets of Floating Frost with five men chasing him. His curly faded hair danced in the wind as he zoomed past vehicles and people. The streets were quite empty, and the buildings weren't anything to write home about. It was like fireworks behind him. Everywhere he passed, cars were sent flying his way by his pursuers.

He jumped onto cars as his pursuers flooded the floor with water while another shot up earth pillars. "Whoa! These guys…"

"Hey, if you guys keep this up, the law enforcers will be on our tail soon. You don't want that, do you?" he yelled to their hearing. One of the men in camo gritted his teeth and shot off into the air, hurling blobs of magma towards the fleeing man. "Those idiots won't show up in little old Nashtown. Now shut up and surrender yourself, you imbecile".

"Hey! Show some respect, man. The name is Mau, not imbecile". Mau cackled as he evaded the attack.

"Why, you little…tch."

Nashtown was a lawless city long abandoned by Floating Frost after a disease outbreak in the area. They could care less about what happened to it or its people. The people there struggle to survive as Floating Frost treats it like an outcast. They weren't allowed to trade or conduct business with Floating Frost. With the other major cities very far away, they had no one to depend on but themselves. Most turned to a life of crime to survive.

No one could be bothered by a chase through there. One man in jeans, Quantz, drew the attention of the man in camo after they headed deeper into Nashtown, "Faker, I think we just entered their territory."

"The hell are you talking about?"

"Basilisk. W…we just entered their territory." he stammered.

"Who cares. We just have to catch that guy before they show up." Faker said but stopped in his tracks afterwards. "Where'd he go?" He only now realised Mau had disappeared from before them, nowhere to be seen.

"Quickly, search for…", he barely concluded when a bullet whizzed past his cheeks, drawing some blood. He froze in his spot, not daring to move. "They really showed up. We are fucked." His heart raced, and he was covered in cold sweat. "I can tell. If I take a single step, I would be dead."

"Try to move, I dare you". On a building some hundred meters away, a woman with blue eyes which sparkled behind a pair of red-framed glasses pointed her crimson crystal guns at Faker. She was ready to take him out at any moment.

"F#@$! I need to get out of here." One man behind Faker took a step back, but a sharp pain in his neck caused him to freeze on the spot. "Make a move, and your head rolls." A man in purple and black appeared out of his shadow and poked his neck with a dagger.

"Even Assassin is here? Don't tell me…"

Five more figures appeared along with Mau, completely surrounding the five men. They staggered back as the party approached them. Mau took the lead and stopped before Faker. "Let's try this again, shall we?" he increased the gravity around him, causing Faker to drop to his knees as the ground cracked below him. "Where's the map?"

Faker gritted his teeth and stubbornly answered, "I…I don't know what you are talking about."

"Oh, really? Then let's take this up one notch", he snapped, and one of Faker's fingers exploded into a blood mist. Faker's yells filled the other with fear. They knew it would be their turn soon if Faker remained stubborn.

"I wonder how long you can last with that stubbornness" Mau smirked, snapping again.
