Chương 31: Rescuing Letty
The next morning, Mike woke up early to a call from Brian.
"Hi, Mike!"
"Hey, Brian."
"I heard about Letty. She actually joined Braga's side and became a driver to transport drugs."
"What?"
"What's her situation now?"
"I'm not sure. It's difficult for me to ask. I saw her when I was investigating the drug lord Braga."
"If it is within your abilities, help me save her."
"Sure."
"Thank you."
After ending the call, Mike went to Mia's room and informed her, "Letty may be in trouble. We need to meet up with Brian."
"No problem," Mia replied, quickly packing her things.
Mike picked up his phone and called Dom.
"Dom, Letty might be in trouble."
"What kind of trouble?"
"Letty showed up with Braga."
"Who's Braga?"
"He's a major drug lord in a drug cartel that ran heroin under the U.S.-Mexico border"
"Aight, I'll meet you in Los Angeles."
Mike returned to his apartment to pack his things.
On the other side, Dom arrived in Los Angeles alone.
Mike contacted Brian, and they arranged to meet at a designated location.
Mia was the first to greet Brian upon their arrival.
"What's going on? Why is Letty with Braga?" Mia anxiously asked Brian.
"Letty was likely an undercover agent. The FBI must have struck a deal with her, and she willingly went to Braga as an undercover agent to gather evidence," Brian explained in a subdued tone.
This location had been requested by Brian, but due to the butterfly effect, it became a compromise from the director.
This alteration led to a more harmonious relationship between Brian and Dom than in the original story.
However, due to Mike's interference, Dom did not have the same brother-in-law's affection for Brian.
"Why? Why did Letty do this?" Mia muttered to herself.
Mike interjected, sharing the original plot's details. "I suspect it might be related to Dom, and the condition may be to lift Dom's arrest warrant."
Mia burst into tears and threw herself into Mike's arms, choking on her words. "Why did Letty do this?"
Brian observed Mia embracing Mike, feeling a tinge of discomfort but ultimately relieved.
At least Mike was willing to get involved for Mia's sake, and Brian himself had given up Mia for his career.
He couldn't blame Mike; he had told him to let go.
Thoughts of his ex-girlfriend crossed Brian's mind, and a trace of sadness flashed in his eyes.
Feeling awkward with his hand still around someone else's future wife in front of her future husband, Mike raised his hand in embarrassment, unsure of where to place it.
But Brian understood the predicament and simply patted Mike on the shoulder, saying, "I wish you both happiness."
"It's not what you think," Mike tried to explain, but Brian had already entered the car. Mike and Mia followed suit.
Mia remained in a somber mood throughout the journey.
Soon, Mike received a call from Dom.
"Where are you?"
Mike provided the address, and when Mia spotted Dom, she rushed into his arms.
Anxiously, Mia pleaded, "Why did you come back? You're in great danger. You should leave quickly! Mike and Brian are here."
"I can't leave because Letty is in danger," Dom firmly replied with a cold expression.
"Don't be impulsive. If you show up now, Letty will be in danger. She might be an undercover agent for the FBI. If you appear and raise suspicion, you'll put Letty's life at risk," Mike advised Dom.
"It's speculated that Letty agreed to work with the FBI to remove your arrest warrant," Brian added, confirming Mike's assumption.
Upon hearing this, Dom's face registered astonishment. He had unwittingly implicated Letty, putting her life in jeopardy.
Boom! Dom remorsefully pounded the wall.
Dom blamed himself deeply for endangering Letty. He regretted not keeping Letty by his side, believing that it would have been better to face the danger together.
"I believe we can help Letty gather the evidence and remove your warrant. However, Letty might be in a vulnerable state and in need of our assistance," Mike offered comforting words.
"Based on my analysis, this drug lord kills people after every car transport. That's why he keeps recruiting racers to help with the drug runs," Brian added.
"Now Letty is in grave danger," Mia said sadly.
"According to my information, Letty might start the drug transport tomorrow night. So we only have two days," Mike informed them.
"You should refrain from participating, or it will be seen as aiding Letty. You might end up imprisoned since you're still wanted," Mike advised Dom.
"I have to go. Letty needs me," Dom stated resolutely.
"Trust me, Brian, and I can help you," Mike said, placing his hands on Dom's shoulders and looking him in the eyes.
Dom remained silent, but his resolute gaze conveyed trust in Mike.
Mike couldn't bear Dom's intense gaze and searched for a compromise.
"Alright, you can stay behind the scenes and support us. If necessary, I'll ask for your help. Once the warrant is lifted, you can reveal yourself openly," Mike suggested.
Dom still didn't speak, but his determined expression spoke volumes.
Feeling the weight of the situation, Mike considered Mia's involvement. "Mia, it's best if you don't participate. Given your background, it's risky. The priority now is rescuing Letty and clearing your brother's name. I don't want you to be implicated as well."
"I just received information that we might need to apprehend a guy named David Park. He's a key individual who can provide crucial information about Braga," Brian said, making Mike cast a peculiar gaze at Brian.
It was unexpected for him to learn this information so early, and he realized that his actions might have inadvertently accelerated the Miami case, enabling Brian to uncover the news about Parker ahead of schedule.
Due to the butterfly effect, Brian now had knowledge of David Park's whereabouts earlier than in the original story.
"Let's go," Mike said, and he and Brian set off to apprehend Parker.
Dom, due to his improved relationship with Brian as a result of Mike's influence, decided to trust Mike and Brian, setting aside his initial reservations.
Mike and Brian arrived at Parker's apartment.
As they entered, they found the place empty, making them wonder if their arrival had been leaked.
They heard the sound of running water coming from the bathroom.
Mike gestured to Brian, and the two cautiously approached the bathroom.
Mike swiftly entered the bathroom to find Parker, naked and leisurely bathing, humming a tune.
Without hesitation, Mike grabbed David Park and forced him to the ground.
Feeling everything going smoothly, Mike couldn't help but think about his god-like luck, causing a chuckle to escape his lips.
Brian, amazed at the fortuitous circumstances, commented, "That went too smoothly. Who would've thought he'd be taking a shower?"
Just as Brian prepared to escort David Park back to the bureau for interrogation, Mike interrupted, "We're short on time. Would you mind giving me half an hour?"
Brian pondered for a moment, then nodded, agreeing to Mike's request to handle Parker temporarily.
