Leyasu did not understand, but he followed anyway.
Leyasu was skilled. He, along with Tatsumi, Shaoyou, and others, had honed their abilities in the village and were capable of hunting dangerous species.
In the military, he would at least be of a captain rank.
Sneaking into the relaxed defenses of the Earl's mansion was quite easy.
"What are you trying to do?"
Suddenly, he heard footsteps in the quiet corridor.
In the middle of the night, a beautifully dressed woman with a smile on her face, holding a notebook, walked faster as if something very exciting was about to happen, seemingly in a rush.
Before Leyasu could react and ask the lady why she wasn't resting at this late hour, Lin Yi had already made his move. In an instant, he appeared behind Aria's Mother and knocked her out with a chop of his hand.
Seeing Lin Yi suddenly attacking the beautiful woman,
Leyasu panicked, immediately rushing out and drawing his long sword, ready to defend.
"Let the lady go!"
He had only recently met Lin Yi, but the Countess and her family had helped them a lot.
So, in an instant, he considered Lin Yi an enemy.
"Hehe, I hope after you see this, you'd still want to help her."
Lin Yi casually picked up the notebook from the ground and threw it to Leyasu.
Leyasu remained on guard but bent down skeptically to take a look. The more he read, the more horrified he became. The notebook detailed gruesome tortures—extremely bloody and inhumane, like knee-crushing, burning, boiling torture, poisonous flowers, molten wax poured over the body...
It was the work of a madman, someone driven to the extreme.
"This can't be possible..."
Leyasu murmured in disbelief, shaking his head constantly.
"This is the truth."
Lin Yi patted Leyasu on the shoulder, "Kid, the capital is not for you. Go back to where you came from."
"Before I came today, I met your friend, Tatsumi. He's also looking for you."
In Lin Yi's opinion, these three kids were not suitable for life in the capital. It would be better for them not to get involved.
He considered this a good deed on his part.
"Tatsumi, you saw Tatsumi?"
Leyasu said excitedly. He and Tatsumi were as close as brothers. Originally, the three of them had left their village together, intending to make a name for themselves in the capital. However, they were attacked by a dangerous creature and were forced to separate.
After arriving in the capital, Leyasu had been continuously searching for news of Tatsumi, but there had been no sign of him.
He had spent all his savings, couldn't find work, ended up on the streets, and finally met the Count's family.
"Yes, he's not in a great situation either. Go near the recruitment center, and you should find him."
"But I have to warn you, young man. The corruption in the capital goes much deeper than you think. With your personality, you will be consumed, bones and all."
"No, I was wrong. If you hadn't met me, you'd already be dead."
Lin Yi bluntly stated.
Leyasu stood still in shock. He thought that with their martial arts skills, they would rise to prominence. Clearly, the rules of this world were not what he had expected.
"Oh, Sayo!"
A thought struck Leyasu, and he hurriedly rushed to the young lady's room.
"Who's there?"
His abrupt behavior drew the attention of the guards.
"Stop! The Count has ordered no wandering around at night!" A guard warned, drawing his weapon, preparing to stop Leyasu.
But Leyasu had already seen the true colors of this family and did not hesitate to draw his sword and confront the guards.
It must be said that Leyasu was quite skilled.
With a single exchange, he managed to subdue two guards. However, he showed some mercy, not using lethal moves.
Lin Yi, who was behind him, decisively finished off the guards.
Picking up a long blade from the ground with a flick of his foot, he swiftly slashed the throats of the two guards.
Blood splattered.
"You!"
Leyasu was at a loss for words. Regardless, this was murder.
"Heh."
"That's what I said, you don't belong in the capital."
Lin Yi responded casually.
Speechless, Leyasu lowered his head and continued towards the young lady's room. When he opened the door, he found it empty.
The commotion attracted more guards, and their numbers kept increasing.
"How could this be? Where did they take Sayo?" Leyasu couldn't believe it. Just a while ago, he had seen Sayo and Aria getting along like sisters.
"If you really want to stay in the capital, let me teach you the first lesson."
Lin Yi waved the standard sword in his hand, which felt a bit too light for him.
Seeing Lin Yi kill the Count's guards, the group of soldiers had no intention of holding back, even bringing firearms.
They immediately opened fire.
But Lin Yi moved incredibly fast, disappearing in an instant.
Under Leyasu's astonished gaze, Lin Yi single-handedly took down the guards. Every time he moved, someone would fall.
Dozens of fully armed guards feel like straw, cut down swiftly.
Leyasu could only follow silently.
After killing an unknown number of people, Lin Yi brought Leyasu to the entrance of a separate warehouse.
"This is the truth."
With that, Lin Yi kicked open the door.
Aria and the Count were indeed inside. Startled, they turned around, looking panicked.
Sayo was tied to a wooden bed, apparently drugged. Beside her lay various tools, though they hadn't been used yet.
Suspended from the beams of the warehouse were bodies that had been skinned and dismembered. Nearby cells held many dying people, clearly having suffered horrendous torture.
Leyasu was stunned, standing there in shock. After a while, he rushed forward, kicked the Count aside, and quickly untied the unconscious Sayo.
"Sayo, Sayo, are you okay?"
Aria, her face full of panic, saw her father kicked aside, screaming in pain. Recovering from the shock, she yelled.
"Guards, guards! Where are you all? Kill these two now."
She wouldn't allow the events of today to ruin her perfect image in the public eye.
