Chương 24: Mana Cultivation 2

Not knowing how long his rebirth had taken was one of the greatest worries of the transmigrated Yi Feng, but now, he had managed to add one more to it. An uncertainty had suddenly arisen regarding the fact of whether Asher would be able to reach his previous peak or even surpass it. It wasn't that he was dissident or unsure of himself, but that there was the chance that this world didn't have the necessary resources to reach such a level.

Asher was, after all, a previous Celestial Emperor. Regarding training routines, techniques and manuals, he had them all he had to do was to convert the methods of the True Qi system to the Mana system, which wasn't much of a challenge. Nonetheless, if there were no suitable cultivation resources to reach that level, having the method alone was not enough. Cultivation was a path of progress, one of simply moving forward. It became harder to take a step forward once one had done so already. Hence, the need for resources to ease the path of progress.

'I really hope that this world isn't equivalent to a mortal world, otherwise, my path to recovery would be a lot steeper than I expected.'

If this world was equivalent to a mortal world, Asher would have to reach the limit of strength here and ascend to a higher world. Changing location meant he would have to start from the beginning again and that would delay the time of his possible return. But if this world was similar to a major heavenly plane or even a minor one, Asher would need not stress himself.

'Look at me, hoping for an easy way out of things.' Asher smiled bitterly.

'The former Celestial Emperor wouldn't deign himself to such, but I have a lot of things to worry about.'

After getting stuck in a reverie for a couple of minutes, Asher began summarizing his gains from the books.

'The cultivation system of this world is known as Mana cultivation, and from what was described in the three local books, it's the only cultivation method known. The worn-out book, however, states that there are similar methods, but they all lead to the same path; a return to origin.'

The three local books simply referred to the other three books that Asher got alongside the incomplete book. He named them such because it seemed that the writers' knowledge was incomparable to that of the incomplete book.

The True Qi system had eight stages while the Mana system had six stages taking the words of the incomplete book. By following the principles of all paths to return to the origin, then it should be safe to assume that if the Mana system is a true cultivation method, then it should also have eight stages, except that no one in the 13 kingdoms knew of this.

The eight stages of the True Qi system were True Essence Gathering stage, Foundation Establishment stage, Dantian Opening and Formation stage, Divine Palace Opening stage, Core Formation stage, Perfected Cultivator stage, Nascent Soul Formation stage and finally, World Formation stage, the previous realm of Yi Feng In the world of the 33 heavenly planes, a World Formation cultivator was called a Celestial Emperor.

There was a rumoured ninth level, which Yi Feng was trying to attain by combining the 12 pages of the Heavenly Tome and cultivating the Eternal art. It was the True God stage. But since there were no records of its existence and only rumours or stories passed down by word of mouth, it was never confirmed and officially accepted. Hence, Yi Feng was the undisputed number one cultivator of the 33 heavenly planes as he was the only World Formation cultivator in existence.

As for the Mana system of cultivation, the known five stages were the Human stage, Guardian stage, Heroic stage, Paragon stage and Sage stage. The sixth rank that was mentioned in the torn book was the Saint stage. As for the possibly remaining two stages, there were no records of them whatsoever; their existences weren't even a myth.

Asher had found that the two systems were quite similar to the other, despite having different titles and energy foundations.

Take for instance the True Essence Gathering stage and the Human stage. Both were the beginning levels of power and at those stages, the practitioners were just a bit stronger than average human beings. They were both divided into three sub-ranks, Early, Mid and high.

The Guardian stage, just like its counterpart in the True Qi system, the Foundation Establishment stage, was also divided into twelve sub-stages. The Heroic stage into three sub-stages like the Dantian Opening, and the Paragon stage, just like the Divine Palace Opening stage, had nine sub-stages. Finally, the Sage stage and Core Formation stage were further divided into three sub-stages.

The Human stage wasn't exactly difficult to achieve. It was technically the easiest level to reach and didn't surmount much of a challenge to anyone. The whole context of the Human stage was in sensing mana and attracting it towards oneself. As long as one had a natural talent or affinity towards mana, they would sense it. Since basically all creatures had a certain level of affinity towards this natural energy, they would be able to achieve this stage without a hitch. The only notable factor was the difference in the total amount of time taken for them to sense mana and absorb it into their body, and this was defined by one's innate talents. In summary, reaching the Human stage was only a matter of time as long as one had the proper guidance to do so.

However, things got difficult once one had ascended to the peak of the Human stage, where the next level was the Guardian stage.

Unlike the Human stage, the Guardian stage focused on the practitioner unlocking all twelve mana points, one by one. But in the True Qi cultivation system, the 12 meridians were the centre of focus.

The difficulty in unlocking each mana point was huge and that was why some practitioners, even in their forties, would still be stuck in either the second or third mana point. Only geniuses trained by top-level practitioners together with an adequate supply of materials could unlock three mana points before the age of 30. Luther and Aaron were good examples, or even better ones, as they managed to do so before they clocked 25.

Every new mana point opened would lead to a very noticeable increase in power, but the difficulty in doing so was extremely difficult for the practitioners of this world, or at least, this region. This was obvious in the fact that one only had to have four mana points opened to be eligible for the title of 'Knight'. A Viscount needed at least five mana points unlocked, and a Count or Earl six mana points, like Count Whiteson, the head of the Whiteson family. Sometimes, exceptions could even be made for a practitioner with five mana points to be a Count or an Earl, but they had to have made a ton of contributions to receive such a privilege. A Marquis required at least seven mana points opened and a Duke eight.

Duke Darius was one of the strongest dukes in the kingdom, and if he were in a nearby empire, he would be a titled duke, Great duke, or Grand duke this was not only because of his achievements but also because he had nine mana points unlocked. This was an astonishing achievement, but the more astonishing fact was that he had done so before reaching the age of 60, the 'grown-up age' of cultivation. In other words, he could still ascend higher with ease and maybe unlock eleven mana points before then.

Unlocking nine mana points before the age of 60 was a testament to his strength and potential, so he was one of the more powerful dukes because of this. Even the current king, Fedor Castellan, had only unlocked nine mana points, but he was just a tad bit stronger than Darius due to the amount of precious materials he had consumed in his life.

Apart from the Guardian stage, the others had their sub-stages as well as the explanations related to them, but that wasn't Asher's main focus at the time. Reaching the Guardian stage was his first goal as that was when one truly stepped into the world of cultivation. The same was even true in the world of the 33 heavenly planes. The Foundation Establishment stage was considered the true beginning of cultivation, and not the True Essence Gathering stage. However, in this world, it was quite difficult to make it past the Guardian stage, most likely due to a lack of resources and proper training manuals.

'If I can't even make it past a Foundation Establishment stage copy, then I might as well give up my goal of returning to my former level of strength or even ascending higher.'

Asher thought as he calmly kept the books aside and prepared a fresh piece of paper and a pen.

He would begin converting the techniques he knew from his previous life to suit the mana cultivation system. As long as he could do that, Asher's path to gory would be shortened considerably. It could already be foreseen that the birth of a legend had begun the very moment the pen made contact with the paper.

The Celestial Emperor was reborn in this new world. A different setting, a different environment, but the same man and the same goal; to reach the peak of this world and overlook all living creatures, ageing alongside the sun, moon, and stars.
