Chương 18: Beatdown

Kean had constantly irritated Asher, and if not for the current state of the Arnhaunt family as well as the undercurrents surging within the city, Asher would have finished him off here. Sadly, he couldn't, but breaking a bone or two wouldn't cause much of a problem.

"Yes, young master." Aaron grinned.

He was one of the most infuriated individuals present, due to Kean's foolish and arrogant expression and attitude.

Who were they? Guards of the freaking Arnhaunt family, the number one family in the region and the top 5 amongst the kingdom. More so, they were not just any regular guards. If they were to make their presence known and take a visit to a family, such as the Livermoore family, an elder would be the lowest personage to come out and greet them. Yet here was a little twerp tutting his horn like he was some majestic emperor. If one didn't know any better, they would think that he was the son of duke Arnhaunt.

"You dare -"

Before Kean could complete his sentence, Aaron had dashed into the fold and began a beat down. It was a total one-sided battle. Anyone who encountered him, be they an ordinary guard or even a Human ranked mage, all fell to his punches and kicks. Even the first point Guardians could only exchange a few blows with him.

One of the Human-ranked guards couldn't even handle the beating and was immediately knocked out, thanks to Aaron's constant show of attention and 'care'.

"Use your spells, you dimwits! Your spells!"

Seeing as his side was the losing side, Kean immediately yelled at his men.

Because they were in the local markets, spells were technically banned, as the destructive abilities they possessed could wreck the shops of a few merchants. However, being a noble, Kean had a few privileges, written and unwritten. As long as the damage wasn't too much and no life was lost, he could escape punishment by simply paying a fine to the city's patrol forces and compensating the damaged store owners.

For a noble of his level, a direct descendant of the Livermoore family, this wasn't difficult for him and would only cause a small dent in his pockets, which didn't matter at this point as Kean had now lost himself to his emotions.

With their young lord covering for them, the guards of the Livermoore family had nothing to fear. One of them suddenly swiped his hand in Aaron's way, sending a blue arc of light towards him.

"How childish." Aaron smiled as he moved his right arm, which was now coated in yellow light, to grab at the blue crescent.

"Hehe. Foolish." The one who fired the attack, one of the Guardians in the team, smirked at Aaron's actions.

He believed that while Aaron might be stronger than him physically but when it comes to magic, the story changes. However, he was in for a shocker as Aaron grabbed the blue light and squeezed.

Crack.

A crack first formed at initial contact, but in the next second, it expanded till it enveloped the blue crescent.

Shatter.

The blue crescent broke into tiny motes of light that abruptly dissipated almost as soon as they appeared.

Everyone on the scene apart from Asher, Luther, Chen as well as the culprit of the scene, Aaron, were all shocked at the development.

"How?"

The Guardian, who had attacked with the spell, was stunned silly by Aaron's moves.

Aaron didn't bother giving him an explanation, as he dashed towards the man and landed a solid punch on his face.

As his hand was still coated in that same yellow light, the power behind the punch was much more than it was before. The guard didn't even stand a chance as he got the living daylight knocked out of him. Like a man who suddenly got hit with a tranquillizer, the guard fell down cold, almost as if he was dead already.

"Gank him!"

Seeing as how his comrade got taken down so easily, the other guard who had unlocked his first mana point immediately rallied the others behind him. As they stood no chance against Aaron individually, he had them work together and attack with their spells at the same time.

For that moment in time, a myriad of colourful waves, blasts and projectiles all headed towards Aaron. At least six different attacks from six different angles headed his way. Even with his overwhelming strength, a direct hit from these attacks could keep him in the hospital for at least 5 months, if he happens to survive from them.

"Greater Bulwark."

As Aaron chanted, a yellow barrier formed in front of him, acting as an obstacle to the attacks from the guards.

Boom. Boom. Boom.

One after the other, the six attacks all landed on the barrier, but the target remained unmoving. It was only when the First point Guardian had attacked a spot that was previously hit twice, did the barrier show crack a bit.

"My turn."

Aaron deactivated the spell once the attacks were all dealt with and abruptly lunged into the fold. This time though, with the aid of the yellow aura on his arms, Aaron's punches became a lot harder to deal with.

The sound of bones breaking alongside the screams of the guards acted as a strange symphony that covered the entire street they were in. The third-party merchants across the road, who had been spectating the fight, began to pity the guards as they saw how Aaron dealt with them.

Less than 10 seconds later.

"All done."

Aaron dusted his hands as he returned to Asher's side.

"Roughly 28 seconds." Asher replied emotionlessly.

"If you had wasted more time, then I would have felt that the resources of the family were being wasted on you."

Aaron's face turned red at the admonishment, but he didn't talk back, as he knew that Asher was right; his opponents were far weaker than he was, but he had taken so much time to deal with them. In the Arnhaunt family, speed was an important factor in calculating one's prowess. Speed didn't refer to just movement speed or attack speed, but the time a fighter used to take down his opponent.

"Who, who are you?"

"Last time it was Han who had asked this question, now it's you." Asher smiled at Kean.

Kean didn't say a word as he felt his face burn up both from anger and also shame.

"Let's go."

Asher walked away with the others, while the rest all watched them leave.

Kean wanted to stop them, but what right did he have to do so?

His guards were already taken down, with six of them having severe injuries and broken bones. Furthermore, all of this was caused by one man. Also, there were three men beside Asher and while one of them didn't look much of a fighter, the other did.

"Stand up, you fucking bastards. We leave now!" Kean yelled at his men with the greatest strength he could muster.

"The young lord of the Livermoore family has eaten such a big loss."

"Serves him right. Most of these young lords go around looking for trouble despite their young age. Maybe this loss would serve as a warning to the rest of them."

"Maybe."

The spectators began gossiping in low tones right after Kean had left with his men.

"By the way, who is that kid to have dared make such a mess of the Livermoore's men?"

"I dunno, but he should have some form of backing at least. The Livermoore guards aren't some random militia after all. To be able to beat them so decisively means those guys aren't ordinary. They're probably from some noble family but came under disguise."
