"Don't be nervous, soldier!" Nick Fury stepped out of the car and looked at Steve with a calm tone. "I apologize for the performance earlier. I thought you needed a slow adaptation process to accept everything now."
Steve's face showed a guarded expression, and he spoke coldly, "Accept what?"
Nick Fury looked solemnly at Steve and calmly said, "You've been asleep for seventy years, Captain!"
Steve's pupils contracted, somewhat incredulous, but the surrounding buildings forced him to believe it. Thinking about his missed date with Carter, Steve's face showed a painful expression.
Hearing the other's rapid breathing, Nick Fury expressed concern and asked, "Are you alright, Captain?"
"I... I'm fine. It's just that I missed an important date..." Steve looked at the surrounding buildings with a bitter smile. The war was won, but he felt lost about the future. He realized that besides fighting, he didn't know how to do anything else. A sense of unprecedented loneliness enveloped him.
One month later, Nick Fury and Agent Hill stepped out of a helicopter and approached Coulson, who came to meet them. Nick Fury whispered, "How bad is the situation?"
"Sir, the situation is unclear. Four hours ago, the Tesseract emitted a surge of energy," Coulson said as he pressed the elevator button. "And this energy is rapidly increasing."
"Evacuate the crowd as soon as possible," Nick Fury said sternly, staring at Coulson. After Coulson left, Hill said helplessly, "Sir, if we can't control the energy of the Tesseract, all our efforts will be in vain."
Nick Fury turned his head to look at Hill and said in an annoyed tone, "So, what? Should I ask everyone to go back to sleep? You go supervise the evacuation!"
Hill nodded and turned to leave with her team. Dr Erik Selvig quickly approached and whispered, "The Tesseract suddenly unleashed energy and it's not responding to commands..."
"Have you tried shutting down the power?" Nick Fury asked.
Upon hearing Nick Fury's question, Dr. Selvig replied irritably, "Sir, this thing is an energy source itself."
While the two were discussing how to solve the problem, on the other side of the universe, Thanos was using the Mind Stone on his sceptre to communicate with the Tesseract, preparing to open an unstable temporary portal. To prevent Loki from dying in the portal, Thanos handed him the sceptre for self-defence.
As Thanos watched the energy channel gradually disappear, a slight smirk appeared on his lips. His plan had finally reached its most crucial step, and now he just needed to defeat that arrogant fool, Ronan, and retrieve the Power Stone to invade Earth.
Thinking of Ronan's arrogance in the projection earlier, Thanos showed a hint of disdain. Did he really think that possessing a Power Stone would allow him to challenge Thanos?
Inside the underground research facility of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Tesseract suddenly emitted a powerful energy surge. The earth began to shake violently, and the evacuating crowd subconsciously quickened their pace. After the energy dissipated, Loki squatted on the ground, his chest heaving intensely. If it weren't for the scepter in his hand in the portal, he would have been crushed into powder by the power of space.
Several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents approached Loki with submachine guns in their hands. Nick Fury shouted loudly, "Sir, I kindly ask you to drop the spear in your hand!"
Loki lowered his head and glanced at the Mind Stone on the sceptre. A sneer formed at the corner of his mouth as he shot an energy beam at Nick Fury. Hawkeye used force to push Nick Fury away, and the sound of a violent explosion caused several agents to instinctively pull the trigger.
The bullets hit Loki, creating sparks in the air. As a few energy beams were fired, the surroundings instantly fell silent. Loki approached Hawkeye and said in a low voice, "You still have some potential."
After struggling for a moment, Hawkeye dropped his pistol and obediently followed Loki. Nick Fury suppressed his astonishment and slowly approached the Tesseract, putting it into a box.
Loki, who was using the sceptre to control Dr Erik Selvig, didn't even look back as he said, "Let go of it! That's not something you should possess."
Ten minutes later, Loki, with the Tesseract, slowly left the city in the car driven by Hawkeye. The next moment, the entire city centre began to collapse, with a large amount of dust engulfing the sky.
Nick Fury pursued Loki in a helicopter but was shot down by energy beams fired from the scepter. Standing in front of the wreckage, Nick Fury stared sharply in the direction Loki had gone, pressing the communicator and saying in a deep voice, "Gather all the forces. We are going to engage in a full-scale war!"
Coulson and the others wore solemn expressions. Natasha, who was on a mission, immediately put down her task upon hearing that Barton had been controlled by the enemy. As Natasha considered Barton both her mentor and friend, she couldn't just leave him.
"Natasha, you handle the big guy, and I'll deal with the rich guy. As for the elusive one, the Director will take care of him personally!" Coulson said and immediately hung up the phone, not giving Natasha a chance to object. He didn't want to deal with Banner himself.
Natasha sighed, put down the phone, and shook her head helplessly. She turned and walked toward the helicopter parked at the end of the street.
Banner, hiding in the slums, was tricked by a little girl into a shack. He watched her jump out of the window and smiled bitterly, immediately realizing that he had been targeted.
Banner looked at Natasha, who slowly emerged, and said in a calm tone, "Bringing me to a place far from the city is a good choice. I assume it's heavily guarded around here, right?"
Walking to the window, Banner looked outside without worrying about getting shot in the head. Natasha smiled softly and spoke in a low voice, "Dr. Banner, we are facing an alien invasion, and this world needs you! On behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D., I invite you to join us in resisting the invasion!"
A hint of emotion flashed across Banner's face. After his efforts, he had learned to control the Hulk temporarily and didn't mind using that power to defend the Earth. However, the condition was that everything Natasha said was true.
"Who do you want me to fight?" Taking a deep breath, Banner decided to trust her. Natasha took out her phone, opened a picture, and spoke softly, "This thing is called the Tesseract. It possesses the power to destroy the world. It has been taken by a villain, and we need you to track the gamma signal it emits."
At the mention of energy radiation, Banner immediately became interested. That was his expertise. After pondering for a moment, Banner nodded. Even if they were deceiving him, the Hulk could help him fight his way out.
After installing the new energy source, Stark was preparing for a romantic candlelight dinner with Pepper. Just then, Coulson infiltrated J.A.R.V.I.S.'s system and arrived at the rooftop of Stark Tower, handing a document to Stark anxiously, saying, "I think you should read this quickly!"
Stark's face showed a hint of embarrassment, and Pepper smiled as
she walked up and took the document from Coulson's hand, saying softly, "He doesn't like receiving things from other people."
Coulson looked at Stark, who reached out to take the document handed to him by Pepper and felt a slight offence. However, the situation was urgent, and he couldn't say much. After all, Stark's combat abilities were impressive. After reading the information, Tony bid farewell to Pepper and left Stark Tower with Coulson.
