Chương 37: The Books

Skylark continued to grumble to herself as she walked around town, trying to recruit members for the quest.

"Ugh, that guy is so frustrating," she muttered under her breath, remembering Lord Schrodinger's refusal to join their group.

"Why is this so difficult?" she grumbled to herself. "I should have just followed the guide and bought the [Water Breathing Potion] instead of trying to take the boat like those other fools."

She had never attempted this quest in the past, considering it to be not worth the trouble, so it was actually her first time.

As she continued her search, Skylark couldn't help but recall her failed attempt at the quest. 'Those Reef Raiders were no joke. Their levels were at least twenty, and they were swarming with dozens of them. No wonder it requires a well-coordinated group of players at Level 20 or higher.'

She shuddered at the memory of her drowning death and thought, 'At least I only suffered a small EXP penalty. Those unfortunate ones who got struck by the Raiders were obliterated, and their levels dropped to a massive five in an instant.'

A lot of players had already deserted the quest because of that, saying that they'd rather not take the risk anymore. "Can't blame them," Skylark murmured to herself. "It's a dangerous quest, especially without a solid team."

As a Human Sorceress, Skylark knew she was one of the weakest classes in the early game. She needed constant protection from a tank or another DPS player like a Swordsman or Barbarian to survive the challenging battles ahead.

Players who specialize in dealing high amounts of damage quickly were often referred to as "DPS players" and were key in taking down enemies and bosses efficiently.

Skylark reminisced about her old account when she was an Elven Hunter. Back then, soloing quests was a breeze, and she enjoyed the freedom of roaming Eternia alone.

However, as she progressed in the game, she couldn't resist the allure of becoming an Angel Sorcerer. She was captivated by their elegant appearance and powerful magic.

To become an Angel, she needed to change her race to Human, which meant starting over with a new character.

Filled with excitement and anticipation for views and the prospect of becoming an Angel, she decided to delete her old account and create a new one.

Deleting accounts and starting over with new race or class was a common practice in the game. Many players did it to explore different playstyles and enjoy diverse aspects of the game, or just wanted to enter a guild with a rare class or race.

But now, as she struggled to find reliable teammates for the challenging quest, she couldn't help but feel a pang of regret for her decision. Soloing was no longer as effortless, and the need for a strong team became more apparent.

On the other hand, Xin strolled through the town with a carefree demeanor, skillfully obtaining rare items from every NPC he encountered.

He was determined to finish everything before dark, and with the island's few population, he achieved his goals with ease.

The best items he acquired so far were:

❶ Spellbook x1

❷ Skillbook x1

Xin was ecstatic because he knew the value of these books. They were incredibly rare and hard to come by.

Usually, they were drops from a Diamond and Platinum Chests, which could only be obtained by achieving first blood in a Hidden Boss or Dungeon raid.

Who would have thought that he would find such precious items as gifts from NPCs on the Newbie Island?

A Spellbook and a Skillbook granted unique spells and skills specific to a player's race and class. These abilities were one-of-a-kind in the entire world of Eternia.

If he decided to sell these items, he would strike gold. These books were well-known for making a player near virtually unbeatable.

Every player in the leaderboard possessed a unique skill or spell that set them apart, making them highly sought after by guilds. Just having such a distinct ability was like a guaranteed ticket to a top guild.

However, acquiring these rare skills or spells was no easy task, especially for solo players. In the game, most of the top guilds had acquired all the rare items, leaving small guilds to rely on luck if they wanted to compete.

Xin searched for information and discovered that one Spellbook and Skillbook alone cost a minimum of one hundred million gil, and the price could increase significantly depending on the auction.

With that amount of money, he could easily buy back their house in Area 40, which they lost due to financial troubles.

However, when he thought about it carefully, Xin hesitated. The books were like investments in his character's future. They could greatly enhance his avatar's power once he acquired his class, securing more money in the long run.

For now, Xin decided to keep the books to himself and wait to decide what to do with them later.
