Chapter 18: A Quick Message With a Big Reward
Everyone then began to die laughing as Ruri got increasingly more embarrassed and tried her best to hide her red face.
Once everyone began to catch their breath after laughing so hard. Noctis felt his phone buzz and decided to check it later.
Noctis slowly stood up as he looked over and saw Krox struggling to hold onto the mirror with his lizard bone man. Noctis could swear he could see and hear the bones of the lizard bone man rattle under the weight.
Noctis then asked "Krox how much longer do you think you could hold that?"
Krox squeezed out a sentence as best as he could "Max... ten..... minutes...."
Noctis nodded "Okay everyone let's gather all the goblin bodies into the center of the room. Try to put them in as tight a group as possible. Save the Goblin Champion head for last. I'll put that on top of the pile myself."
They all began to move the goblin bodies as fast as they could. Not wanting to move the Goblin Champions body they decided to just pile the bodies on him. Once they were all piled up Noctis put the head on top of the massive pile. There were about fifty goblins on top of the one Goblin Champion.
Noctis turned to Goblin Slayer "Have any gasoline?"
Goblin Slayer simply nodded as he began to pour all the gasoline, he had over on top of them. Noctis then lit a match as they all started to burn. Noctis and the rest then helped Krox slam the mirror down over the goblins burning bodies. The whole pile disappeared as it was transported to the other side.
At the Goblin Camp on the other side
A group of ten Goblins have been looking at the mirror intently. Their new method of transportation was behaving weird. In truth they did not know much about the mirror except for the fact it led to a human village on the other side. However, it had been shaking weirdly and they could see glimpses of a battle. Then when they all looked at it, all they saw was the ceiling of the room on the other side.
Many of the goblins had started to gather they were scared of most things so none of them had mustered up the courage to step through to the other side. The Goblin Champion they had would usually be the one to lead the raiding parties in an out.
Many Goblins were then perplexed even more as they started to see black smoke make it to the roof of the room on the other side.
They then watched as the mirror started to move rapidly. They all had their eyes widen as a huge flaming mass of bodies flew through the air from the mirror. The head of the burning Goblin Champion nailed the first goblin who was closest to the mirror in the face instantly killing it.
The bodies then flew out at a rapid pace as the whole Goblin Village began to burn.
Back with Noctis and the others.
Noctis sighed "Alright now to make sure no one can use the mirror again. Goblin Slayer hand me the extra sack of powder."
Noctis was handed the sack of powder as he told everyone to step out of the room. He then started to climb up the walls of the room using footholds and some knives. Once he reached as high as he could get, he released the powder into the air. He then ran out the room, lit a match, and threw it up at the ceiling.
This set off a loud explosion as the powder in the flour sack was an exceptionally fine substance that could easily explode in a closed area. The ceiling did not collapse however it made it very weak. Noctis then looked to Dain "You think you can work your magic to cause a cave in."
Dain nodded "Yeah but you better all stand back. Cave ins ain't exactly safe."
They all stepped back as Dain began to chant and they could hear the ceiling start to shake. Once Dain was done chanting, he ran back toward them as they saw the whole room disappear as a huge pile of rocks that they could not even tell where it ended took its place.
They all sat down against the wall and relaxed. Noctis sighed "So who's up for some noodles."
Everyone nodded their heads and Faye said, "As long as there's no meat."
Dain sighed "They are just noodles long ears. It's nothing but grains."
The group slowly began to walk out as they made their way back through the sewers.
After a couple hours of making sure the sewers were clear of goblins as well as making it out of the sewers in general. You could see the whole group at a noodle shop stand taking up all the seats. The only sounds you could hear was the slurping of the noodles.
They all finished their bowls at the same time and as they gasped for air and breathed out the heat from the noodles you could see the steam leave their mouths. Everyone ordered some more noodles except for Goblin Slayer. He got up from his seat.
Ruri asked, "Where are you going?"
Goblin Slayer pointed to the cathedral "To turn in the quest."
Noctis nodded "Go ahead. I'm sure Asteria is waiting eagerly. She fears goblins more than most."
Faye was confused "The Sword Maiden fears goblins?"
Noctis nodded as he slurped some more "Go follow Goblin Slayer if you are curious."
Everyone except for Faye got up and followed Goblin Slayer intent on trying to hear the story if she was going to share it. Faye and Noctis decided to keep slurping on some noodles.
Faye then asked, "So you going to tell me about the Sword Maiden?"
Noctis raised an eyebrow "Why didn't you follow the rest to find out?"
Faye smiled "I rather hear from you."
He smiled "Okay but I'm giving you the short version. I assume when the Sword Maiden was a young adventurer, she went to a goblin den and was captured. I'm sure they then tortured her and made her blind. She somehow escaped and became the Sword Maiden."
Noctis then continued "That's all just a guess, however. The clues are simple really. One if it's just a bunch of Goblins why would the Sword Maiden not take a group and handle it herself. Someone of her caliber should easily be able to lead a large group of adventurers to go and kill the goblins. The second clue was I could both sense and see the fear in her whenever the word goblin was mentioned."
Faye asked, "You could see it?"
Noctis nodded "Whenever she heard goblin, she slightly trembled. So really, I'm just taking a guess. But those clues alone lead somewhere they are not just coincidences."
Faye sighed "It sounds like you are just taking a shot in the dark."
Noctis then tapped his mask on the table and said, "You know I can see in the dark though."
Faye rolled her eyes "I suppose."
Noctis was then taking another slurp of his noodles when Faye asked, "Want to come to my village to meet my parents?"
Noctis started to cough "What!!?!"
Noctis then said, "We have not even been on a date yet and you want me to meet your parents?"
Faye smirked "So you do want to go on a date."
Noctis smirked as he pulled her ear towards him "Obviously. We can go to your village, and I can meet your parents if you want."
Faye nodded and smiled as she started to eat again "Good."
After that they met up with everyone else and decided to rest for the night. They would have a long day of travel tomorrow.
