Chương 84: Chapter 83: Mystique joins the team (1)
As both Mystique and Charles broke out of their hug, Charles calmed down as he looked at the worried mutant kids.
"Children, I am back and there is nothing to worry about. It's getting late so get back to your rooms. You all have classes tomorrow early in the morning." The kids groaned at that as they grumpily went to their rooms.
Charles then turned to Law "Thank you for saving me and the remaining Brotherhood mutants. I will be eternally grateful to you."
"I would have said 'It's my duty, don't worry about it and all that jazz but sadly that won't be true. You can pay me for my troubles though." Law said clearly since he found more value in money than an eternally grateful Charles Xavier. He had Emma whom he trusted more than Charles for any mind-reading activities.
Before Charles could reply, Mystique answered "I will pay you with the brotherhood funds. There is not much of Brotherhood left anyway to use those funds."
"Ah, You are not just beautiful but also someone who understands a man's heart completely, aren't ya?!" Law said rubbing his hands in greed while Mystique gave a somewhat sad smile at that.
"Since Charles has now woken up, I should tell you all about what happened. As y'all know that blue guy was called En Subah Nur and also Apocalypse who had various powers. He was an ancient being who woke up and wanted to rule over mankind. He mind-controlled mutants and from Erik's memories, he found out about Charles's powers. He wanted to use Charles's power to mind control all the ones with nuclear bombs and release them on oceans or in outer space so that there is nothing left to threaten him." As Law gave a summary about Apocalypse, the X-men gasped in shock.
"That would have been so terrible!" Kitty Pryde expressed her shock while Charles looked guiltily at everyone.
"Yeah, It would have been terrible if not for Magneto. He fought the mind control through sheer willpower and determination and luckily broke out of it. He broke past his limits and unleashed the power that was way stronger for a mortal to wield."
"Apocalypse sent the brotherhood mutants after Magneto who fought them but in the process, some mutants died. He tried to protect his subordinates but alas Apocalypse was just too strong for him."
"His power spike alerted me of the danger and sensing that I arrived at the location...."Before Law could continue, he was rudely interrupted.
"How did you know about all of this if you arrived much later?" Hank asked with his beastly suspicious eyes.
'Damn, It is much easy to fool Peter than these mutants.' Law thought as he bullshited his way out of the suspicion.
"Duh, You are not the only one with a mind-reading mutant in his team." The rest was left unsaid but everyone understood the point.
"When I arrived, Magneto was fighting Apocalypse and was almost on the brink of death. Even I could not heal him. Then I fought the big blue mutant, freed the minds of those mutants who were still alive and were being controlled, and saved the day." Law said the last sentence striking a hero pose.
"To be honest I have nothing but respect for Erik. He died a warrior who protected the mutants even when he was outmatched. He kept true to his purpose till the end." Law said
"His last words were to you Charles and I quote 'You were right Charles. I let power corrupt me. Living in peace with humans was the right thing. If I continued on my path, there would be no difference between me and Apocalypse where I would start controlling my fellow mutants in search of strength. Forgive me my friend and please take care of my brotherhood.' And that's the end of the story. Apocalypse is dead so y'all don't have to worry about him either."
Charles instantly believed him as he shed a few tears. While rest of the mutants also felt some respect for Magneto and consoled Charles.
'Erik might be cursing me in his afterlife right now. Then again, I at least made him sound like a hero which he clearly was not.' Law did not want to tell the truth that he was the one who killed the mutants.
If he did, he would become a permanent enemy of the X men and while he could deal with them, He did not want to pointlessly slaughter mutants. Besides, X men would defend Earth when the time came and also deal with the worldwide mutant problem. Explaining why he killed Magneto would also be a pain in the ass for Law so he decided to fabricate the story.
"Well, Charles, Raven, you have my account number. You can send me the money there. I will be off now." Law waved his goodbye as he opened a portal.
"Wait" Mystique aka Raven shouted from behind as Law stopped and turned back.
"Can I join your mercenary team?" Mystique asked
Charles looked at her in shock "You can live with us, Raven. Just like old times."
Mystique shook her head "I don't have any problem living here Charles. But we both share different point of views which would make us clash at times. I also don't see a future for me here. Erik gave a new path to walk upon but with his death, even that path is closed. Being a mercenary does not sound too bad and I think that it would suit me."
Before Charles could argue "You are hired. We will discuss about your pay and duties after a while. Now hop in."
Law shoved Mystique down the portal as he waved at the X-men while everyone watched him leave just like that.
"Damn, I would not have minded a shapeshifting woman in X-men. A pity that she left." Bobby said in a sad tone as everyone looked at him.
"What? I have my fantasies." Bobby fought back.
