The next morning.
"Rui sent us a box of tangerine. You can take some to school and eat them after meals to boost your vitamin C."
Before leaving, unconsciously, his mother handed him a small bag of tangerine, leaving Shinichi a bit puzzled.
Even though it's currently tangerine season, his mother usually isn't overly concerned about a lack of vitamin C.
"Just take one. I don't like eating too many."
"If you have more, just give them to me."
"Fine..."
Compelled by this strange persistence, Shinichi reluctantly left home and went to school with a bag containing four tangerine.
Feeling a bit thirsty on the way, he peeled one to quench his thirst. He found that tangerine were surprisingly tastier than he expected, with more juice and sweetness. Even Shinichi, who didn't fancy desserts much, found tangerine quite pleasant.
"Asada-san, what's that?"
"Tangerine, they're from Rui."
After morning sports, Shinichi and Yotsuba rested under a tree. He took the tangerine from his bag and handed one to the curious Yotsuba. After joyfully thanking him, she peeled and ate it.
"Mmm, delicious!"
Sweet juice flowed from her mouth. Yotsuba covered her mouth with one hand and swung her fist up and down at Shinichi with bright eyes.
"Asada-san, these tangerine are so good! It's one of the top three tastiest tangerine I've ever had in my life!"
"Really? That's great."
Shinichi smiled, even though he didn't buy the tangerine; it didn't stop him from feeling flattered by the compliment.
"Besides, Rui gave it to me, so how could it not be good?"
Yotsuba giggled. "Asada-san is popular among the girls!"
"Thanks for the compliment." Shinichi wasn't embarrassed but proud.
While eating and chatting, Yotsuba took half a tangerine and asked, "Asada-san, aren't you going to eat it?"
"I just ate. You go ahead."
Shinichi shook his head and stopped staring at the girl while she ate. After stretching, he raised his eyes and began to admire the colorful morning sky.
The golden light of the morning sun, white clouds, and blue sky scattered bright rays in distant places.
"..."
Yotsuba glanced at his side face, appearing very interested in the smile on her lips, but it seemed like there was more to it.
She quickly devoured all the tangerine, wrapped their peels with tissue paper, prepared to dispose of them, and then sat silently closer to him.
But Shinichi was still aware, tilting his head in confusion and asking with his eyes.
"That..."
Yotsuba occasionally looked at the ground, sometimes at the sky, and occasionally met his eyes and lips. Her face blushed slightly, and she seemed to be trying hard to find a topic.
"Right! Asada-san, this is for you!"
Suddenly recalling something, she took a U-shaped pillow from her bag and placed it in Shinichi's lap like a treasure.
"I got this when I participated in a previous community lottery. I usually don't use it, and there are many similar things owned by Ichika. Nino and the others don't need it either...
"If Asada-san doesn't mind, consider this a return gift from tangerine!"
"...So you're bringing it to me?"
Despite the price difference, Shinichi still accepted the gift as compensation. Whether tangerine or a pillow, both could be considered given, so it could be said that the value of the two items was equivalent.
However, Shinichi was still puzzled. What did she want him to do with the pillow when bringing it to school?
Looking at his hesitant eyes, Yotsuba had no intention of explaining. She just sat next to him, hugging her knees, smiling brightly at the sky.
Shinichi thought for a moment and didn't think much of it. The reason wasn't important.
He placed the pillow next to his neck, leaning comfortably against the tree trunk.
Until the school bell rang, their atmosphere remained calm and peaceful, like the days before, with no changes.
Or perhaps the changes were too small, like the distance between their shoulders, suddenly something changed quietly.

Shinichi returned to class with the pillow.
Fumino had already arrived at school. When he returned to his seat, he glanced at her and was surprised.
"What happened to you? Did you stay up late and do something bad?"
He still remembered Fumino's words to him the first time he stayed up late.
It might be engraved in DNA.
"That's not true~"
Lying on the desk, moving her slightly red eyes, Fumino looked at him weakly, then spoke slowly.
"Yesterday, I found a good TV series, and I accidentally got addicted. I might have only slept for one or two hours..."
Shinichi's eyes slightly furrowed.
"What are you doing... It's almost mid-term exams, and you're still acting like this. Be careful, Kirisu-sensei might find out and give you extra lessons."
Shinichi took out a tangerine from his bag and placed it on the table. He looked at the neck pillow he had recently put on.
"I know, there won't be a next time..."
Saying this drowsily. At this moment, Fumino also noticed the pillow in his hands, and her sleepy eyes filled with curiosity. She reluctantly raised her spirits and asked.
"Asada-san, what is this pillow for...?"
Shinichi didn't look like someone who would bring a pillow to school. He had never brought one before. Why did he bring a pillow that seemed so good for sleeping today, when she needed good quality sleep for himself?
"Yotsuba just gave it to me. As a gift for the tangerine."
"I see."
Unexpectedly, Fumino reached out, took the pillow from him, and said with a slight blush on her face.
"In that case, I prefer to be respectful than obedient... Um, can I really use it? Asada-san, don't you mind?"
"...Like I said, of course."
Shinichi's surprised expression became slightly subtle. He always felt that what others said seemed to have ambiguous meanings, but seeing that she appeared to have no hidden motives, he could only think that his thoughts were too dirty.
"Alright, thank you." Fumino nodded slightly, placing the pillow on the table and carefully laying it on top.
"It's quite soft."
Shinichi didn't know how to respond, so he just nodded.
"That's good."
Hissing—
Shinichi seemed to hear her take a deep breath, but for the girl's good image in front of him, he classified it as an illusion.
Although he hadn't spoken yet, Fumino seemed to realize what she had done, and her body tensed in the chair. Her ears quickly turned red.
In the end, without lifting her head, she hugged the pillow and pretended to sleep. After three seconds, she really fell into a deep sleep.
Fumino looked carefully for a long time, and when she saw that Itsuki hadn't arrived in class yet, a thin smile appeared on her face. She touched her forehead and brushed aside her disheveled bangs.
"Sweet dreams, Fumino."
Shinichi lowered his voice and spoke softly, hoping she could hear it in her sleep.
Just before he could see if the sleeping woman would react, Shinichi heard uncontrollable laughter coming from the front seat.
"Pfft, is this a soap opera..."
The initial smile turned cold.
Shinichi returned to his seat and reached out to grab the collar of the student sitting in front of him.
"Uesugi-san, funny, isn't it? If it's funny, let's have some intimate communication between long-lost men..."
