Chương 347: Suddenly became a Bug Catcher

The pattern on the Spinarak egg was light green, with traces of yellow edging. Terrance observed it for a moment and found it quite appealing.

There was no doubt that the Pokémon Eggs in the academy's breeding area were very well cared for. Aside from the Pokémon that the League specifically prepared for rookie Trainers, they should be considered as top-notch.

"Are you going to exchange for this one too?" asked Forrest.

"Yes, this one too," Terrance nodded.

Spinarak is a Bug and Poison-type Pokémon, and its evolution, Ariados, shares the same types.

Ariados' silk can be said to be the toughest among all Bug-type Pokémon, possessing considerable breeding value, which is exactly what Terrance values.

"All right, Pineco and a Spinarak—two Pokémon Eggs," Forrest said. With the credits Terrance has recently earned, exchanging for two Pokémon Eggs is far from emptying him out. Observing Terrance's eager expression, Forrest coughed and led him onward to continue watching.

"There are only two Paras eggs?" As they approached the next set of Pokémon Eggs, Terrance frowned.

Compared to the Pineco and Spinarak eggs, the two Paras eggs were much more ordinary. They were only slightly above average, which wasn't very satisfying to him.

At this level, it's better to capture them from the wild.

"Paras are bred by the academy specifically for their spores. There are a lot of them, as they're raised in batches.," Forrest explained, noticing Terrance's confusion.

Terrance understood and decided not to consider the two Paras Eggs.

Compared to the Pineco and Spinarak eggs, these Paras eggs were inherently inferior. To compensate for this through later efforts and training, it will require more effort.

Terrance was looking for Pokémon suitable for the Gym, so he couldn't choose based purely on personal preferences.

"You applied for a Pokémon from the Unova, Kalos, and Alola regions, and there is only one Pokémon Egg available. Its owner originally hadn't planned to submit it to the academy, but they changed their mind at the last minute."

"Only one, huh…" Terrance was startled, then shook his head. With the climate differences among regions like Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, Pokémon coexisting was possible. But in Sinnoh, Unova Pokémon were rarely found.

If there is one, it must have been caught in one of those regions and brought back to Crown Academy by someone.

To stumble upon one by chance is already considered lucky for Terrance.

"A Scatterbug, huh…"

He looked at the Pokémon Egg with its black, sleek patterns, examining it closely.

"You're familiar with this Pokémon, right?"

Terrance nodded. Indeed, this Pokémon was quite unique, and he was very curious.

After evolving into Vivillon, Scatterbug's wings have unique patterns and colors that vary depending on its habitat. Professors theorize that this is due to the influence of climate and environment, and not all patterns have been discovered yet by humans. Moreover, Vivillon is also a beautiful Pokémon, not inferior to Beautifly.

In some ways, it's even rarer than Beautifly. With dozens of patterns in different colors, and not being too difficult to catch, many collectors go to great lengths to capture and breed them, all in pursuit of gathering Vivillon with wings in every unique color pattern.

"I wonder what color the wings of this Scatterbug will be when it evolves…" Terrance mused with slight interest.

Ice Snow Pattern, Sun Pattern, Ocean Pattern, Sandstorm Pattern, Fancy Pattern, and many more…

The powder covering Scatterbug's body helps it regulate its temperature, allowing it to thrive in any region and climate. It's not found around here purely because Kalos, where this Pokémon originates from, is too far away. When residents here travel to Kalos, they usually opt for flight over cruise to save time.

"I could raise one!" Terrance thought.

This Scatterbug's Pokémon Egg was also quite good; it had been well-preserved with no issues, and the parental genes were outstanding. It seems that as long as it's the offspring of a Pokémon owned by an academy teacher, there aren't many with major defects.

This egg was definitely superior to those raised by the academy just to gather some resources.

"I'll take this one too," Terrance confirmed.

"Alright," Forrest replied.

The two then circled back to the Hoenn region's Pokémon Eggs, where a blue-patterned egg caught Terrance's eye.

"I want to exchange for this Surskit's Pokémon Egg as well," Terrance said after a moment to Forrest.

Surskit, which evolves into Masquerain, can use Water and Ice-type moves both before and after evolution, making it a unique Bug-type Pokémon.

"If I'm setting up a Bug-type Gym, I'll probably face plenty of Fire-type Pokémon, so raising a Masquerain sounds interesting," Terrance thought, narrowing his eyes.

Aside from that, there were also Pokémon Eggs of Volbeat, Illumise, and Kricketot, but they didn't quite satisfy Terrance.

Aside from the Surskit's Egg, there was also a Venonat's Egg that looked promising, but because it belonged to a student, Terrance didn't have permission to exchange for it.

At this point, Terrance had exchanged for four Pokémon Eggs: Pineco, Spinarak, Scatterbug, and Surskit.

"Are you satisfied now?" Forrest asked.

"Very satisfied, but I'd like to exchange for a few more," Terrance replied with a smile.

Forrest understood Terrance's purpose in exchanging for these Pokémon Eggs and didn't say much, letting him continue his selection.

"Exchanging for this many Pokémon Eggs means it'll take at least a year to raise them all."

"I know. Building the Gym isn't a short-term project anyway, so I'll have time to raise them during the process," Terrance said. "As long as I don't exchange for any rare or unique items, the credits won't run out too quickly. They are perfect for raising them and exchanging for the resources needed for their growth."

"I don't need them to grow enough to stand on their own in the short term; as long as they can handle routine challenges, that's enough. In the future, when facing many challengers, they'll gradually grow through real combat."

With that, Terrance started looking at Wurmple's Eggs.

As Hoenn's Bug-type Gym, there was no way he could go without a Wurmple—it's an iconic Pokémon of the region!

In the end, Terrance exchanged for two Wurmple Eggs, one Caterpie Egg, and one Weedle Egg.

Together with the previous four, he now had a total of eight Pokémon Eggs.

"That's quite a few…" Terrance scratched his head.

With so many Bug-type Pokémon, once they all hatched, he'd practically become a Bug Catcher!

However, it was all within Terrance's capability. After establishing the Gym, a large garden for Pokémon to live in would be built within it, serving as a habitat for Bug-type Pokémon. This initial batch of Bug-type Pokémon would be the foundation, with more to come in the future.

Besides, Terrance didn't plan to raise them all on his own. Hiring Breeders, asking for help from teachers and classmates, and teaching the children at Old Green House breeder knowledge were all part of his plan. Terrance's role would be to guide these Pokémon in a battle style suited to the future Fallarbor Gym, i.e. planning their growth trajectory and training directions!
