Chương 16: Progress With Luna And Livia

At Night, in Maximus' Bedroom

Maximus sat in deep meditation as if waiting for someone.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

A rhythmic footstep approached cautiously, prompting Maximus to open his eyes.

"You're here." He smiled upon seeing the figure before him.

"I-I only came to make a wish," Livia murmured, blushing as she tried to hide her face in the dim light.

"I know," Maximus teased.

"I'm the wish giver, Maximus~," He said, leaning slightly, playing along with an exaggerated tone, even using his crude magic to enhance the act.

Giggling at his silliness, Livia's nervousness faded.

"I wish for the man I like to like me back," she said, joining the playful exchange.

"Oh? That's quite a difficult wish…"

"I-Is that so?" Livia tensed.

"Hmm."

"Why?"

"It's a tricky one because the man you like… already likes you."

"Ah!" Livia gasped in shock, looking at Maximus in disbelief.

"Well, beautiful lady, Do you have another wish?" He asked, not being able to fulfill the previous one.

"Did he really like me?"

"Yes. He really likes you. In fact, he'd love to spend eternity with you."

"Then I wish for us to truly spend eternity together." Livia's eyes widened before she broke into a soft smile.

"Your wish is granted." Maximus sealed the promise with a kiss.

In the Other Room:

Luna sat alone in unusual silence.

"Did she go to that scumbag?" she muttered, a mix of dissatisfaction and jealousy flickering in her voice.

Thinking of Maximus made her emotions more complicated.

Since arriving here, she and her sister had felt something they hadn't in a long time—home.

With Maximus' care and humor, their once-lost smiles had returned.

"Hmph, I'll forgive you this time," Luna mumbled as she crossed her arms.

---

Soon, days passed as if nothing had happened.

Livia wasn't in a rush to marry. She wanted to do so alongside her sister.

"Is this the wine you're going to sell, husband?" Hazel asked, taking a sip.

It was the wine Maximus had crafted two months ago, now ready for distribution in other cities.

"How is it?"

"Hmm… how should I put it?" Hazel frowned slightly.

"It's good, but something feels… missing?" She hesitated, unsure how to describe it.

"Our husband has spoiled you," Erica said knowingly.

"Why's that?"

"We usually drink Tier 1 wine, so of course, this tastes different."

"Oh, so that's it."

"Hey, who told me to marry a good husband?" Hazel smirked proudly.

"Come, taste it. It'll be our money-making business."

"It's barely passable…" Luna muttered, still struggling with her feelings.

"It's not that bad, sister," Livia reassured her.

"Hmph, you almost have the same face as that scumbag," Luna sulked.

"Sister…" Livia turned red with embarrassment.

"Uh…" Seeing the tension between the sisters, Maximus had no idea what to say.

Crack~

The sharp sound of shattering glass pierced the silence.

"Ba… ba…" Lily reached out for the fallen wine glass,

"Are you alright, Lily?" Hazel's voice tensed as she rushed to check on her.

After a quick scan, they all sighed in relief as she was unharmed.

Breaking the tense atmosphere, the room slowly returned to normal.

However, Luna's awkwardness remained.

---

Later in the night, Maximus found Luna alone.

"So, here you are…" he said softly.

Luna stood by the window, lost in thought, staring into the night.

"What do you want?"

"Are you drunk?" Maximus glanced down, noticing the empty wine bottles scattered on the ground.

"So what?!?" Luna snapped.

"No, nothing."

"Bah! What a scumbag!" she muttered bitterly, gripping the bottle tighter.

"Even my sister, my sister—" She trailed off, unable to finish her thought.

"Hmph. Truly a scumbag!" Luna vented as she took another swing straight from the bottle.

"Yeah, I'm a scumbag," Maximus admitted without hesitation.

Hearing this, Luna blinked in surprise, staring into his gentle eyes.

"Why… why are you so good to us?" Perhaps it was the alcohol, or maybe she finally had the courage to ask.

"Why are you so gentle?"

"We are your slaves. You could do anything you want."

"Yet why?" Luna asked, locking her gaze into his eyes.

"Why?" Maximus smiled wryly.

Indeed, they were his slaves. If he wanted, he could do anything as he pleased.

The system encouraged him to marry and make full use of its benefits.

Yet…

As he spent time with Hazel and Erica, he felt something different. Alive.

His children's birth further cemented this feeling.

This world is real. This life is real.

If he acted according to the system's intention, marrying for power and rewards, would he still be himself?

Or would he lose himself entirely—becoming nothing more than a puppet?

"Perhaps I truly am a scumbag, playing with your feelings." He exhaled softly before answering.

"Perhaps I'm just greedy for your beauty."

"Perhaps I just don't want to see you sad."

"Perhaps—"

Before he could finish, Luna suddenly lunged forward and hugged him.

"You really are a scumbag," she muttered, lightly punching his chest.

Maximus didn't say anything and simply hugged her back

Minutes passed in silence.

Finally, Luna lifted her gaze, still wrapped in his embrace.

"Hey… scumbag."

"What?"

"I won the contest a few days ago."

"And?"

"So that means I get to make a wish, right?"

"Yeah…"

"Then I wish that this scumbag will love me and my sister forever and ever."

"Hmmm…" Maximus smiled.

"I will seal your wish with a kiss," he murmured before kissing her head.

"Hmph! You're still taking advantage of me," Luna muttered, though her heart swelled with warmth.

"I'll take advantage of you forever, so be ready."

"Hah! I won't let you!" Luna declared, swiftly planting a kiss on his lips.

"Hmm?" Maximus raised an eyebrow.

"Now, I'm the one who took advantage of you," she smirked.

"Hmph. My turn." Maximus stole a kiss in return.

"You dare?!" Luna gasped.

"Take this!" She boldly pulled him close, hugging his head as she stole another kiss.

But this time, the kiss lingered.

A moment, neither of them wanted to end.

---

A Few Weeks Later

A grand wedding was taking place in the Moonshadow City.

"The lord is getting married again!"

"Hey, it's been a while since his last wedding."

"Yeah, over a year has passed."

"I'm so envious of him."

Citizens chattered excitedly as they admired the festive decorations spread throughout the city.

The Moonshadow City had undergone significant transformations, giving people the time and energy to engage in casual banter.

The farmlands were flourishing, producing an abundance of food.

Soldier recruitment, once overlooked, had now become a booming opportunity.

Those who enlisted not only received generous compensation but also gained strength beyond the ordinary.

In fact, if a family didn't have at least one soldier, they might even be looked down upon as cowards.

Construction and fortifications were constantly underway.

Their lord treated money as dirt; as long as one was diligent, they could earn a living by joining the building teams.

After more than a year of rapid development, The Moonshadow City was already catching up with the Faerie Kingdom's Imperial City.

Now, immigrants flooded in, pushing the population from 50,000 to nearly 100,000.

---

Inside the Castle

"Sister, we're finally getting married!" Livia beamed.

"Hmph, that scumbag is getting off easy," Luna muttered, though a small smile tugged at her lips.

"Sister, you can't call him a scumbag anymore."

"I'll call him whatever I like."

"Sister, today is a happy day. You should address him properly," Livia urged.

"...Fine. I'll give him this courtesy."

"Good," Livia said, smiling as they adjusted their dresses.

Soon, the wedding began, following simple yet meaningful traditions.

Weddings here weren't extravagant.

They revolved around celebration and, most importantly, a vow—

A promise to love and never betray.

After the ceremony, Maximus turned to his newly wedded wives.

"Wife Luna…"

"Wife Livia…"

Livia blushed, smiling shyly.

"H-Husband," Luna gritted her teeth before finally saying the word.

Hearing this, Maximus grinned.

"From now on… we will be together forever."

---

The Next Day

Maximus woke up in the embrace of two beauties.

"You two really are sisters… truly ruthless," he muttered, glancing at them as they clung to him like koalas.

"Good morning, husband…"

"Good morning, handsome scumbag."

---

A Week Later

Life had returned to normal.

His wives were happily caring for their children and enjoying their days.

His ministers diligently performed their duties.

The people of Moonshadow City lived content and prosperous lives.

Knock. Knock.

"Come in."

A shadow slipped through the door.

"I greet the master."

"Hmm?" Maximus raised an eyebrow.

"It's you, Phantom!"

It had been a month since he last saw him, so he was slightly surprised.

"Your training is progressing well. You came in without alerting anyone." Maximus praised.

Even the assassin who once attempted to kill his wife, Hazel, had been detected by the Tier 1 guards.

Yet Phantom had slipped past two Tier 3 Earth Knights without a sound.

"It's all thanks to the Assassin Knight Training Manual you provided, Master," Phantom said humbly.

"Is that so…"

The manual he had given the Phantom organization wasn't just a collection of shady tricks.

It was a genuine inheritance of assassination techniques, not like those so-called "assassins" who killed for money and claimed the title.

"I told you last time that by our next meeting, you should already have a firm grasp of all the information on the Faerie Kingdom."

"Did you accomplish that?"

"Yes, Master."

"With enough money, things become much easier. We hired informants in every city and sector across the entire kingdom.

"As for the other thirty members, they've been assigned as information centers for rapid dissemination of intelligence."

"Good." Maximus nodded, pleased.

"Besides reporting, I've also come here with urgent information."

"Oh? What is it?"

"The previous cult leader has infiltrated the capital. It seems he's searching for something."

"Oh?" Maximus' expression darkened slightly.

The cult…

He didn't hold a deep grudge against them.

Yes, the previous host of his body had been killed by them.

But without that, he wouldn't have transmigrated here in the first place.

Still, the potential chaos they could bring was concerning.

After a moment of thought, Maximus made his decision.

"Send the information discreetly to the King of the Faerie Kingdom."

"He should know how to handle it."

What he desired was peace, and anything that threatened it was his enemy.

"I will, Master." Phantom bowed.
