Chương 22: Junior Brother

Lin Fan went to stand outside the arena to cheer Jiang Ting on. As he was standing there, Jiang Ting looked towards him briefly, before looking elsewhere. At this moment, Lin Fan seemed to have remembered something as he cursed under his breath.

"Damn it, I forgot to tell him about Jue Lin's previous grade one martial art. Please forgive me, brother." He performed a silent prayer for Jiang Ting in his heart.

As he was doing so, somebody tapped on his shoulder from behind. He turned around to see a cute girl standing next to him with a warm smile on her face. She seemed to be standing there by herself.

"Hey, my name is Xuan Li. Are you a friend of that junior brother over there?"

Lin Fan was stunned for a moment before nodding calmly, saying "Yeah, technically he can be considered my junior brother, but brother Jiang and I are very close pals," before nodding and turning around indifferently. Soon after, Xuan Li stood beside him, giving him a smile and watching the match quietly,

Lin Fan couldn't help but thank Jiang Ting. 'As expected of the Headmaster's disciple, your charm can even get your brother here some girls.'

Lu Fei was quite intrigued by the encounter just now. That new disciple of the Headmaster, he was extremely dashing, but the way he acted was very cute. He obviously had a thing for her best friend, but he was fourteen, they were eighteen, so the age gap was a bit much, at least for now. Cultivators lived longer than mortals, as such, an age gap of four years would not matter much in the long run.

Of course, that gap was quite significant at such a tender age, and Yan Ping probably wouldn't entertain such a notion for a few years. It might be too late by then, though. With Yan Ping's beauty, manner and upcoming status as disciple of a core elder, her already long and impressive list of suitors would only grow larger. Even Zhang Li and Liang Chen were after her.

Thinking of them, her face darkened. 'Those guys might be annoying, but at least they didn't go as far as to beat me up. To think after that incident, that kid wants to hit on my best friend.'

Lu Fei sighed helplessly. 'The matter back then wasn't really Jiang Ting maliciously attacking us or anything, so it is best to let bygones be bygones. Who knows, regardless of whether he actually courts Yan Ping successfully, as talented disciples of the same generation, we might just be friends in the end.'

At this time. Yan Ping's mind was abuzz. Jiang Ting was obviously interested in her, but he was a bit too young for now. A handful of years later, perhaps there may be a chance for her to think about it. However, what was troubling her was the fact that looking at him, speaking to him, her heart would dance. She was unable to align her thoughts and feelings.

"Sister Fei, come with me. We are going to see junior brother." Yan Ping grabbed her hand and went towards the arena where the referee had called Jiang Ting's name. She wanted a closer look at the boy.

"Huh?" Lu Fei was surprised, especially when she realized where they were going.

'There's no way, right? She never showed any romantic interest in the guys trying to date her, and now this? There's no way. Absolutely not. It is no possible that she likes them young, right? Right??" As her mind was in a mess, she got dragged by her best friend to the front of the crowd.

Lu Fei sighed, clearing her mind. At this point, she felt a gaze. Looking back, she saw it was Jiang Ting. He wasn't staring at her, but the one beside her. She gave a helpless smile.

At this point, Yan Ping was staring at Jiang Ting intently. When Jiang Ting turned around to look at them, she held his gaze, attempting to peer through him, and through the confusion in her heart. Suddenly, Jiang Ting looked flustered, hurriedly turning away. Yan Ping sighed.

Looking at this scene, Lu Fei suddenly started giggling.

After Jiang Ting and Lin Fan left to see the fights. Zhao Song sighed and started walking around the ground, occasionally taking a look at the fights.

"How boring. Well, at least the newbies look like they are having fun." He muttered to himself.

"Yep. It's like a festival out there." A gentle voice rang out behind him.

Looking at the person, he nodded, "Sun Mei."

"Zhao Song." She smiled back. "Mind if I give you company?"

Zhao Song was surprised. He barely had contact with anybody, focusing only on his cultivation. So, this was new for him. "Sure."

"You know, Zhao Song, I was always curious about something. What were you like before the previous competition? I have heard that you lived in the village all your life but kids the same age more or less are acquainted with each other, yet I never even heard about you."

"Oh."

Sun Mei froze for a moment, before glaring at him. Zhao Song continued walking for a few seconds before he noticed this. Suddenly, he seemed to recall Jiang Ting teaching him some basic etiquette.

"Um, were you asking me where I was back then?"

Sun Mei tried to calm down. "Yes." She said to him icily.

Zhao Song shuddered for a second, before smiling. " Oh, that? I aways stayed at home, reading books. My sister was the martial arts prodigy of the family, so nobody bothered me and let me do as I wished."

"I see.' Sun Mei replied, calming down. However, she was extremely intrigued. So, this brute is actually well-read?

As they walked around, seeing the new disciples fight, time passed by. Eventually, they heard Jiang Ting's name being called out by the referee.

"Oh, it's junior brother, let's go see." Zhao Song grabbed Sun Mei's hand, dragging her along with brute force.

Sun Mei froze in shock. 'This guy, doesn't he have the least bit of mindfulness?'

As they reached the front of the crowd, she smiled. 'Regardless of the arrogant behaviour this idiot had at sparring day, at least he is simple and straight forward in reality. Maybe there is a chance for us after all.'

As she thought of this, Sun Mei flashed the most dazzling smile possible at Zhao Song, who looked at her awkwardly.

'I must take more training from junior brother.' He made up his mind.

He suddenly felt someone staring at him. Looking at the stage, it was junior brother. Even though Jiang Ting's face was calm, to Zhao Song there seemed to be some anxiousness hidden within.

'Poor guy must be losing his nerve. With so much hype built around him, his first fight is on the largest stage possible in Fudi.'

As he thought of this, Zhao Song, immediately gave his junior brother a confident smile and a thumbs up.
