Chương 7: Daily quest completed

Hours later,

Pant.

Pant.

Pant.

Art was drenched in sweat, panting heavily as he lay flat on the floor of his room.

In his current state, anyone who saw him would assume he was on the verge of death. Hell, he even looked like a ghost.

Still, an exhausted smile played on his lips as he stared at the glowing screen before him.

The only task left was the 10 km run.

It had taken him over six hours to get this far. Honestly, he hadn't thought he'd make it-but here he was.

Drinking more water, he rested for several minutes before heading out to the massive training field.

Even though he had only arrived a day ago, he already knew the mansion like the back of his hand, so he didn't need anyone's help finding his destination.

When he reached the field, he noticed three people training in various ways.

The way they trained wasn't something you'd see in his former world; they needed a lot of space for their methods.

One of them, a girl, was practicing with a spear. The way she moved so gracefully under the evening sun created a breathtaking scene.

'I better get to...' Art's thought trailed off as memories suddenly flooded in, causing him to take several steps back, his eyes wide with shock.

'Not this!' he cursed internally, his annoyance clear.

It turned out the former owner of this body had harbored a major crush on the girl he was now looking at. However, his low self-esteem had kept him from approaching her.

She hadn't joined them for breakfast that morning, which was why this was happening now. Not just her-a total of four people hadn't shown up.

While she wasn't one of those who openly mocked him, she still looked down on him.

Noticing his presence, she turned to him, her expression puzzled.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes," Art waved her off dismissively as he walked away.

'These memories are a burden in so many ways,' he thought bitterly. He didn't like what he was feeling and knew it would take time to overcome.

The memories of this body's former owner affected his emotions towards certain people.

First Racheal, then those three boys-and now this girl, Cait.

Once he'd created enough distance between them, he refocused on the task at hand.

He didn't need to run the entire field to complete the quest, a testament to how massive the field was.

Taking a deep breath, he began to run.

From a distance, a group of onlookers erupted into laughter.

Why wouldn't they? The sight was utterly comical.

Art resembled a piece of cloth flapping in the wind, threatening to be blown away. Worse still, he wasn't even moving that fast.

From his point of view, he thought he looked determined and cool as he pushed through the resistance. But to everyone else? Not so much.

Despite giving it his all, his speed continued to drop. After covering 2 km, he was ready to give up and take a break. That was when he heard approaching footsteps.

Glancing back, he spotted the silver-haired, blue-eyed girl from breakfast-the one who hadn't given anyone the time of day.

Her name was Iris. She was the cold type who avoided people altogether, and her demeanor made it clear she wasn't interested in conversation.

She was also considered the strongest among them. Her beauty intimidated people, and no one dared approach her out of fear of getting on her bad side.

Well, no one except for one person, who hadn't been seen in two months after a... certain incident.

Even the former him hadn't dared.

Watching Iris overtake him with ease, despite starting her jog minutes later, pained him. But it also motivated him to push harder.

He kept running, though the distance between them grew with every passing second.

Eventually, he could barely see her. But that was the least of his concerns-his body had long since exceeded its limits.

When his body finally gave out, he collapsed to the ground, his limbs completely unresponsive.

He fought to stay conscious, driven by the glowing words on the screen before him.

'Did I... Did I really finish the 10 km?' Art thought in disbelief.

A surge of joy washed over him as he processed the message. He smiled, then opened his stats.

The smile on his face grew wider. He had just tripled his stats.

At that moment, Racheal arrived in a hurry, having witnessed his collapse. She stared at him, baffled.

She hadn't expected him to be smiling like that-as if he'd found a way to turn the tides of battle.

"Do you need help?" she asked, walking closer.

"Thanks, but no. I'll join you shortly," he replied.

Racheal nodded and left, convinced he was pushing himself too hard. She couldn't imagine he'd actually completed the run.

'Maybe... Just maybe, he's getting better this time,' she thought as she walked away.

Art turned his attention back to the screen.

He'd tested it multiple times and was confident he was the only one who could see it.

'I wonder if the screen and my eye color being the same is a coincidence,' he mused before shaking the thought away.

Focusing on the free stat points, he quickly distributed them. He already had a plan. When he was done, a warm sensation spread through his body, making him feel more alive.

He had prioritized stamina and vitality to improve his poor physical condition and help with future quests. He left one point unassigned, just in case.

Even though he didn't appear perfectly healthy yet, the changes were noticeable.

Standing up, he decided to test his new stats by running another 10 km back to his starting point.

Halfway through, he heard footsteps again.

Tilting his head, he saw Iris approaching. She overtook him once more, her face as blank as ever.

'If I didn't know her character, I'd think she's doing this on purpose,' he thought, slightly annoyed.

When he finally reached his starting point, he collapsed onto the ground.

He wasn't as exhausted as before, though.

Staring at the sky, his mind wandered to his past life. He thought about his family and how they must have reacted to his death.

After regaining some strength, he stood up and headed back to his room.

Dinner was calling.

Meanwhile, those who had laughed at him earlier were now staring in stunned silence, the same thought running through their minds:

'Did he just complete a 20 km run?'
