As Edward watched Ava carry Ophelia out of the arena, confusion filled not only him but also every spectator, especially those from the Water Guild. The Guild tournament was just a competition, but for the leader of a guild to ignore a member so injured, and instead show support for an enemy, was an unthinkable matter.
Leo shook his head, "Sigh… She had to do another troublesome thing." Ava was considered the most talented youth of her age and held the title of leader of the Water Guild, but she was also known for her impulsive and unpredictable behavior.
"She is just a young girl after all," Carl said as he scratched his grizzly beard while looking at Ava. "Give her a few years to mature, and she will be a splendid leader."
Saurus, the second youngest guild leader of the city, spoke up, "I think it will be hard for her to keep the position… If I'm not wrong, the previous vice leader returned to the city some weeks ago, didn't he?" He turned to Ethan, who had a smug smile on his face.
"Are you talking about Thomas? That bastard finally decided to take action, huh?" Ethan's words were full of mockery, and anyone with a brain knew that he had played a hand in this matter. "I wonder if he will be able to take control of the Water Guild. After all, there are many people that are still loyal to her thanks to her late father."
As all the guild leaders discussed Ava's actions, Edward had already turned his attention to the third arena since Lucien's battle had started. His opponent was an older man from the Nature Guild, giving Edward the expectation of another great battle.
"Shall we give them another great show?" The man from the Nature Guild had long hair, dark mixed with a few white streaks.
"Jovan, right?" Lucien unsheathed his dagger and looked at the man. His opponent had great fame in the city, especially thanks to his skills in training beast types monsters. "For you to reach this round as a Monster trainer is commendable…"
"Huh? Why do I have the feeling that you are looking down on me?" Jovan sneered, but he still raised his guard as Lucien was no common man. "Summon your pets! Let's see who shall win this!" As he finished, four vortexes of spiritual energy opened, and all of the men's pets jumped out of them.
They were all beast types monsters, but surprisingly their elements varied. His strongest pet was a Saber Tooth Great Tiger with a peak-grade uncommon bloodline. The monster was of the nature and fire element and was in the peak stage of the general realm.
On the other hand, his weakest pet was a Frost Mammoth. The Mammoth had a middle-grade bloodline with an Ice and Nature elemental affinity. The mammoth was gigantic, towering over all the other pets, but it just had a beginner stage of the general realm.
His last pets were two Veridian wolves, another monster with a middle-grade bloodline, but they were significantly stronger than the Frost Mammoth, with a cultivation realm of the mid-stage of the general realm.
Yet what made Edward more surprised was the fact that the two wolves had mutations. Besides their main Nature affinity, one had a Darkness mutation, while the other had an Earth mutation.
Lucien fell silent and did as he usually did, summoning three of his pets. One of them was a strange shadow-like monster called Shadow Mimic, which possessed an astonishingly low-grade rare bloodline. In addition to its impressive bloodline, the Shadow Mimic's cultivation was advanced, making it one of the two pets that Lucien had showcased at the peak stage of the General Realm.
His second pet at this level was an Umbral Gryphon, an incredible creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. The Gryphon was a few meters bigger than a horse, and its talons and beak were razor-sharp.
Lucien's last pet was a Dark Claw Wolf, one of the evolutions of the wolf that Edward faced in the forest when saving Whitey's herd. Its Peak-grade uncommon bloodline couldn't be compared to Lucien's other pets, but it still was considered a fearsome monster, especially with its beginner-stage General Realm.
As the two competitors had already readied themselves, the judge of the match finally announced the start of the battle, and the audience held their breath in anticipation of what was to come.
"Nature Gift!" Jovan quickly slammed his palms together and cast a spell on all his pets, causing a green shimmer to shine on them, infusing them with extra strength and vitality.
Jovan's wolves let out a guttural howl and charged toward Lucien's pets with incredible speed, yet Lucien just stood there, eyeing the incoming monsters with calm and ease.
As the wolves had crossed half of the stage, Lucien finally took action and prepared his fighting stance. "Dusk, you will deal with the two wolves," he whispered as he gave the command to the Shadow Mimic before turning to the Umbral Gryphon. "Night Wing, you can take the Mammoth."
The monsters swiftly followed Lucien's orders, with the Shadow Mimic splitting into two and creating an exact copy of itself to face the two wolves. Meanwhile, the Umbral Gryphon took to the air, hovering above the battlefield, and eyed the Mammoth as if it were food.
The Dark Claw Wolf whimpered as it gazed at Lucien with a sad look, seemingly asking for orders.
"Don't worry, I saved the best for us," Lucien said, showing a rare smile as he patted the head of the Dark Claw Wolf. "It won't be easy, but I'm sure we can deal with them." He then locked eyes with the Saber Tooth Giant Tiger.
The tiger at the Peak stage of the general realm was already a tough opponent, but with Jovan's buffs and support, this fight could be considered an extremely challenging one.
"Are you ready, Deep Fangs?" A dark shroud enveloped Lucien's body as he gave one last look to his Dark Claw Wolf.
Deep Fangs howled and leaped forward, charging toward the Saber Tooth Giant Tiger with incredible speed.
Jovan was confident that the Saber Tooth Giant Tiger could hold its own against Lucien and his wolf, but unfortunately, he wasn't sure about the rest of his pets, especially the Frost Mammoth, which faced a tricky enemy.
The Umbral Gryphon swooped down from above, unleashing a barrage of razor-sharp feathers at the Mammoth, which could only protect itself with a layer of ice while biding for its chance.
"Frost Mammoth! Don't just defend!" Jovan began to cast another spell as his mind raced, trying his best to create a battle plan. "Try to help the Veridian Wolves!"
As soon as Jovan gave the command, the Frost Mammoth stomped the ground, creating a small tremor, and shot itself toward the Shadow Mimic and its clone. However, the Umbral Gryphon wouldn't let the monster run away so easily and swooped down once again, this time using its razor-sharp talons to rake across the mammoth's back, causing it to cry out in pain.
"Pesky beast! Let go of him!" Jovan shouted as he pushed his hands forward, transforming them into a tangle of vines that flew toward the Umbral Gryphon.
As Jovan was just an enhancer, his spell didn't threaten the Gryphon, but it still created enough time for the Mammoth to recover and continue its charge. Without wasting any more time, the two Veridian wolves that were fighting against the Shadow Mimic retreated and prowled toward the Gryphon, which was still trying to free itself from the entanglements of the vines.
Lucien's eyes flashed as he watched everything from the corner of his eyes and decided to take advantage of the situation now that Jovan's attention was focused on the Umbral Gryphon.
His left hand moved swiftly as he made five seals, causing the dark shroud surrounding him to grow larger. Yet as the shroud suddenly dispersed, Lucien was nowhere to be found, causing the Saber Tooth Giant Tiger to fall into confusion.
Only after the Gryphon freed itself from the vines did Jovan notice that Lucien had vanished from the battlefield. He quickly searched around, but without any clues, he decided to order all his pets back.
However, as soon as he called out for his pets, he felt a tingling sense of danger coming from his back. Jovan tried to turn around to block a stealthy attack, but Lucien let out a powerful kick to Jovan's legs, forcing him to fall to his knees.
