Chương 49: Chapter 49 - First Patrol!

...

<Japan / Musutafu>

Mirio and Lena arrived at the place where the explosion had occurred a few seconds ago. When they arrived at the scene they could see several destroyed buildings from which flames were protruding, civilians running in fear for their lives plus firemen and policemen handling the situation as best they could.

But they couldn't observe any heroes in action, so it was best to assume that only the two of them were present in the area... at least, for now.

Mirio quickly approached a police car that was parked not far from the buildings. The officer was communicating over the radio, giving some instructions to his fellow officers on how to handle the situation, looking a bit stressed as he punched shouts through the radio.

"Officer! What's the situation?"

The officer quickly glanced at Mirio with an annoyed grunt before taking a deep breath.

"Several buildings exploded simultaneously causing a collapse in the surrounding area, the reason is still unknown but most likely a villain as explosions keep occurring from time to time."

"Were there casualties?"

"So far it's hard to say but possibly there were some injured from the explosion, others possibly buried under the rubble... possibly dead if we don't act quickly" The officer's words made Lena's fists clench tightly. "I have requested the help of a local Hero Agency which is an expert in rescue but right now they are dealing with another problem and it will take a few minutes for them to arrive..."

The officer gave us a hesitant look before letting out a sigh. "Look, I don't like to send Hero Interns into these delicate situations... but there isn't another hero around anytime soon... so, I would heartily appreciate it if you could help us lead with the suspected villain and if possible save as many people as you can."

"Don't worry! Take it for granted" Mirio said with a confident smile inspiring confidence in the police officers and the civilians themselves. "Come on Tracer!!!"

Lena nodded as they quickly made their way to the area of the destroyed buildings without letting their guard down, it was her first time dealing with a villain since USJ and she didn't want to make a fool of herself again like with Reaper....

Inspecting the site, it appeared that the explosion had come from the second floor of the main building which quickly spread to the surrounding buildings causing a large collapse throughout the area.

"This...this is terrible."

Searching through the rubble they could find no sign of any civilians.

BOOOOM!

Another explosion, this one was quite close to Lena and Lemillon. Fortunately the explosion wasn't too big or they would have been blown away by the shockwave.

Both Heroes ran straight towards the blast zone, the temperature rose drastically as some flames surrounded the area. In the midst of it all they encountered what appeared to be a lanky man in a burnt office suit and broken glasses. In his hands were orange-red marble-like spheres.

Said marbles seemed to be slowly growing as time passed.

'This can't be good...' Thought Lena as a sense of danger hit her. 'Who is this... Bakugo's missing father?'

'THIS IS THE BEST!!! I SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS A LONG TIME AGO!!!" The Sir shouted to the sky as he opened his arms, as if he was freeing himself from all his sins towards God.

His body was shaking slightly and burns could be seen all around his body. The burns looked like first and second degree burns.

Mirio grimaced at the man's haggard appearance. It was clear that he was the cause of the explosions, but he was not a full-fledged villain.

He was, however, using his Quirk to harm other people and that was unforgivable.

"Sir! Please put your hands down and don't do anything stupid! You will be taken to the police station for questioning!" Lena's worried voice echoed throughout the place.

The middle-aged Sir slowly turned his head toward Mirio's voice with a creepy half-smile on his ugly face.

"A Hero is not going to tell me what to do! NO ONE IS EVER GOING TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO AGAIN!"

The Sir threw a much bigger marble behind him pointing towards another building, the guy's grin got much bigger for some reason. At that moment both Mirio and I rushed towards him taking advantage of him being distracted, but....

BOOOM!

Another explosion. This time we backed up a bit, we watched in shock and horror as the buried building exploded into a thousand pieces. The Sir's grin grew much bigger as his eyes watched the scene before him in fascination.

"SUBARASHI!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

'Is it fucking Deidara?'

'You have to be careful with those marbles...' Mirio thought before an idea popped into his head. "Tracer, get ready to knock him out!"

And with nothing more to say, Mirio went through the ground as if merging with the world itself.

Lena looked at the spot where Mirio disappeared in shock for a moment before shaking her head, recovering from her daze and using an Acceleration.

From one moment to the next Lena, disappeared and appeared in front of the Sir giving him a hard parry to the jaw.

The Sir shot a few meters back, but while being pushed he threw 3 marbles in my direction. I used another Acceleration to dodge the marbles and hit the Sir again, this time in the back.

'I can't knock him out...' Lena thought in frustration. 'Maybe his Secondary Quirk is Resistance...?'

"Bitch!" the Sir shouted as he turned to punch me, which I blocked with my own hands, while kicking him in the stomach. "Ugh..."

Just then, Mirio appeared behind Sir and before he could react, he landed a hard punch to his head that sent him to the ground and knocked him unconscious instantly.

We let out a sigh in tandem before high-fiving each other.

'First patrol baby!'

We looked at the now unconscious Sir with a grimace. His body had taken quite a bit of damage, he had several cuts that were clearly not recent, bruises on his back, possibly from his own Quirk.

BOOOOM!

Behind us there was another explosion sending us to the ground. We quickly got up looking in the direction of the explosion with our guard up.

Mirio flashed a surprised look. "There are two villains?"

"I don't think so" Lena shrugged with a small guilty air. "Those must be the marbles he threw at me, I failed to knock him out immediately and he managed to throw a few at me."

Mirio visibly relaxed at my explanation of the explosion. He pulled some ultra-strong wires from his belt to bind the Sir's hands and feet, before shouldering him like a sack of potatoes.

"Very well, then let's get him to the officers."

Lena nodded before suggesting to Mirio that he leave her in the area to search for wounded civilians.

Mirio thought it was a good decision but warned her to always be on guard just in case. Lena thought he was worrying too much but she took his advice seriously anyway, he was her superior and had more experience than her when it came to these things.

Unfortunately, Lena was unable to find anyone in the rubble, which made her feel frustrated as she returned to the authorities. It seemed that the Heroes from the other Agency had finally arrived and had already started looking for civilians under the rubble which was a relief to Lena's conscience.

<Pov - Tracer/Lena>

The officer from before thanked me for capturing the cause of the explosions and was grateful that I tried to search for the civilians even if I was unsuccessful in doing so. Don't get me wrong, it felt good to be praised and all, but all I did was hit a civilian twice who had lost his head.

Oh, and apparently Mr. Crazy had been sent to a prison for questioning.

After that the officer quickly said goodbye to the two of us and went to give orders to the firemen and the other officers.

Some reporters approached us to find out more about the situation, to which we had no problem briefly briefing them on the situation.

'Hehe... I'm on TV...'

It was getting late, and although I wanted to stay and help the Professional Heroes, it was pretty obvious that I wasn't going to be of any help in this situation so I finally gave up and we headed back to the Nighteye Agency.

"How was your first day on patrol?" Mirio asked as we walked into the Agency.

Although I was feeling strangely tired, Mirio seemed to be fresh as a daisy.

"I think I did well. Although I would have liked to have helped those people..." I replied in a lower tone than I expected.

Mirio made a sour face at my comment. "Yeah... well, you can't always save everyone. Contrary to what many people believe the Heroes can't always save everyone, they prioritize the majority over the minority, and you can't blame them after all it's the logical course of action."

"But that's not right, a Hero should always try with all his might to save all the people, even that means getting seriously hurt" Explained Mirio with a serious voice that contrasted with her smile. "Today you proved to the world that you have what it takes to be a great Hero! Don't get depressed because you failed once, use the failure to get better 100 times and never fail again!"

I looked at Mirio puzzled by the sudden pep talk before letting out an amused laugh.

"You're right, next time I'll help as many people as I can!"

"That's the spirit!"
