Papers flew everywhere with a loud rustle, startling Louis's secretary as she walked into the room carrying a cup of coffee. She quickly set the coffee on the desk and bent down to pick up the papers. As she put them back on the desk, she cautiously checked out Louis's face. Even though he looked emotionless, his eyes had a cold, dark look, like a fierce storm hidden beneath a calm ocean.
Attempting to be as low-key as possible, the secretary said, "Mr. Martinez, here's your coffee." Louis barely looked at her, his gaze icy and distant. The secretary held her breath, carefully stepping out of the room, worried that a louder footstep might annoy him even more.
A few steps away, she heard Louis pick up his phone and dial a number. "How was your first day of apprenticeship?" he asked kindly, his voice gentle enough to melt butter. The secretary froze, not sure what the other person's response was.
