"System, use the Palace Guards Green Cube!" Dom ordered, directing it to be spawned beside the Hoplite Warriors Hall. This would be his fourth Warriors Hall alongside the Hoplite, Legionary and Horse Archer Warrior Halls that they already had.
[Spawning Palace Guard Warriors Hall]
The ground shook and Dom stood in excitement, awaiting the structure to appear, out of the ground appeared a building similar to the other Warriors Halls, made from the same Silver Wood as the rest of the buildings in Riverside. Unlike usual however there were no engravings on the doors.
"View Stats." Dom asked.
[Warriors Hall of Riverside 4
Hall Grade - S
Hall Level - 1
Spawn rate - 5 Warriors a day (can be upgraded with Village growth)
Spawn Level - up to grade S, type dependent
Spawn Type - Error]
Dom was confused as to what the system meant by error, but was happy with the other stats, grateful that it was a Grade S building again as the other cubes had been, he felt that his Grade S Town Centre had been a bit of a cheat for him, but he was very grateful for it.
"System, what does it mean by error?" Dom asked.
[Error when spawning, Palace Guards from associated Cube are unable to be spawned]
[Re-Rolling for a similar Palace Guard within World Conquest Online's scope]
[Roll Commencing....]
Dom realised that his hope of the Warriors from the Ancient Underground City appearing as members of Riverside were now most likely not going to happen. He wondered what unit type he would now get, the system had defined that it would still be a Palace Guard type unit, so he was excited to see what it could be. He tried to think back to his history books of known Palace Guards throughout history, thinking that there had been hundreds, if not thousands of kingdoms and empires across the history of humanity.
[Roll Complete....Tang Dynasty Imperial Forbidden Troops - Early Tang Dynasty]
[Tang Dynasty Imperial Forbidden Troops (Grade A+)
The best and most loyal troops of the founding Emperor of the Tang Dynasty volunteered to stay in service of the emperor after a general demobilisation order was passed. They were granted land and became the founders of what would eventually become the Forbidden Guards of the Tang Emperors.
The second Emperor of the Tang Dynasty further evolved the Guards, choosing the greatest archers and the greatest warriors, with a strict regiment based on their appearance, strength and skills. The majority of these were chosen from the upper classes of the Tang Dynasty.
By the time of the third Emperor the Forbidden Guards began to take shape, and these are the Guards that will spawn within Riverside. These were the best and greatest of the decedents of the above two Guard Units that had been formed. Originally the unit started as the top one hundred warriors, but soon grew to the top one thousand under the well known Empress Wu the sixth leader of the Tang Dynasty. Eventually the unit would grow to ten thousand and they would guard key leaders, buildings and court.
The guards dropped in quality as time passed, as less people saw the pride of joining the guard and sent proxies in their stead. The Tang Dynasty Imperial Forbidden Troops of Riverside are the most loyal and talented of the Tang Dynasty at it's peak, with their individual quality ranging from Grade B to Grade S.]
Dom was excited at this, an all rounder unit with strong Cavalry, Archery and Infantry skills who could adapt to the situation. This was a unit that could defend Riverside and allow the other units to push out and attack. This unit was also more historically advanced than any of force he had, so their quality of weapons and armour should be at an improved level. The Doors now had the engraving of a sword lay across a bow, with a crown placed above it. He then continued to read the notes on the Tang Dynasty Forbidden Guards Warriors Hall.
[Upgrade Options - Relevant General, Modernisation Tactics or High Grade Mount]
"So what did we get?" Subutai asked him.
"Tang Dynasty Palace Guards." Dom replied, "They are from ancient China around 700AD, they are multi skilled and will be the perfect unit to defend Riverside."
"How many do we spawn a day?" Subutai asked.
"5, but I am going to use the upgrade token before I spawn them." Dom replied, "We need more units and I don't want these to fall behind the others."
"I think that is a great idea." Subutai agreed, "A multi skilled high level guard is what we have been missing, once we have some foot archers we will have a full army. Personally I would prefer more Cavalry, but the Archers and Lancers that are spawning daily are enough for now."
"System, please use one of the upgrade tokens." Dom asked, nodding his head in agreement at Subutai.

"System, please spawn units." Dom asked.
Suddenly the doors opened, and eight armoured men walked out from the Warriors Hall, getting in to formation on the small parade square in front of the building. They wore heavily layered iron armour, with a blood red and black clothing that was underneath it. They wore thick boots and had long metal greaves that went up to their knees. They wore a golden belt, which the face of the Sabre Tooth Tiger of Riverside on the front, and had matching engraved shoulder pads. On their heads were a golden winged helmet with a red feather on the top.
Of the eight Forbidden Guards, four held long halberds with long straight Dao swords at their waists, the other four also had the swords at their waist, but they had long red engraved bows in their hands, with quivers on their backs. At the site of Dom, all of the eight guards got to one knee and saluted him with their right fists.
"We greet the lord!" They said in unison.
"I like this bunch." Subutai said as he inspected them closely.
"Please, stand!" Dom said, still not getting used to people bowing to him, even if they were characters in a game. They eight of them stood at this order, with one of them taking a step forwards.
"Captain Chen Lu at your service." The man, Chen Lu, stated.
"Welcome to Riverside." Dom said kindly, "We are grateful to have you join us."
"We are happy to be here and contribute." Chen Lu replied.
"This here is Commander Subutai." Dom introduced, "He is our lead General and the overall Commander of our Military, he will get you settled in and explain the current situation to you."
"Thank you." Chen Lu replied, bowing towards Subutai respectfully.
Dom turned to Subutai to see what his thoughts were so far, he could see that Subutai looked pleased with the new Warriors and Dom decided that this would be a great opportunity to surprise his General.
"System, use the Blue Cube on the Tang Dynasty Forbidden Guards Warriors Hall." Dom whispered as Subutai started talking to Chen Lu about Riverside and it's current military situation.
Suddenly the doors to the Warriors Hall opened and a large group of Forbidden Guards exited and got in to formation on the grounds around the eight who had already appeared. Subutai who was stood at the front of them talking to Chen Lu gasped and stood back, before turning to Dom and staring daggers at him. Dom did a quick head count and counted that another 92 had arrived, taking the total up to one hundred Forbidden Guards, which was one full unit.
"One hundred excellent warriors!" Subutai said as he re-joined Dom who had stood back with Homer and Hector as Subutai had been talking away to Chen Lu.
"Are you excited?" Dom asked happily.
"Very much so, Chen Lu seems a great guy and I think he will fit in well with Octavian, Alexander, Pullo, Banas and the rest." Subutai agreed. "They have asked if we have any spare horses, as they can work as both a foot and cavalry unit. They don't all need Cavalry, but if we can spare enough for a third of them, we can split them evenly between Archers, Infantry and Cavalry."
"We only have the Red Hare's and they are currently occupied." Dom lamented. "I may need to upgrade the Stables."
"What else were you going to use your wooden tokens on?" Subutai grinned excitedly, "Come, let's go!"
Subutai then turned and looked back at the hundred guards that were stood waiting for orders.
"Chen Lu, please follow us. Hector, please take the rest of them to the School to register and then find Gan Ning who can give them a tour." Subutai ordered.
They soon reached the area of the Stables and the Horse Archer Warriors Hall which had an attached stables as well. Riverside currently had two horse types, the Red Hare which were used by the Spartans, Commanders and the current Guards. The other type were the Steppe Horses which were specific for the Horse Archers and Lancers which were within that unit.
Just as Dom was about to use his Upgrade Token, he remembered his mission for the morning. He pulled out the Green Cube for the Beast Hall.
"System, please use this Green Cube." Dom asked.
[Spawning Beast Hall]
Suddenly a building appeared beside the Red Hare Stables, it looked very similar to the stables, but was enclosed like the Animal Husbandries on three sides, with just the entrance way open. As Dom peaked in he could see multiple stable like doors. The stables all seemed empty which disappointed Dom.
Dom could also see empty racks that were placed against the walls, as well as an open space in the centre which Dom assumed was for training the Beasts. He was surprised by the space and assumed that the necessary items would appear once the Beasts had spawned.
"Show Stats."

"Damn, so we don't automatically get a beast." Dom lamented.
[Riverside currently has 5 Beasts that can be placed within the Beast Hall. Please select from the below]
[Hyena
Sun Bear
Lynx
Red Snake
Sabre Tooth Tiger]
"Erm Subutai, what do you think of having our Forbidden Guards having Sabre Tooth Tigers for a mount?" Dom asked.
Chen Lu, Subutai and Homer all looked at Dom with their mouths agape. Colour draining from their faces at the scary fought. A Sabre Tooth Tiger could be as long as 3 and a half metres, so not as tall as a horse, but slightly longer than the average one, but much more deadly.
"Did you say Sabre Tooth Tiger Lord?" Chen Lu asked, looking down at his belt buckle.
"I did." Dom replied with a grin as he selected his option.
[Sabre Tooth Tiger selected...]
[Transferring Sabre Tooth Tiger pups to the Beast Hall]

There was a loud roar from within the Beast Hall, as some slight changes took place. In the centre area there was now some large thick logs with string balls dangling from them, some large piles of straw and large metal plates of meat. At the far end some saddles had now appeared on the racks as well. On the entrance gate an image of a Sabre Tooth Tiger appeared and Dom could see that the first 3 doors within had numbers above them, signifying that they were occupied. Dom assumed this would be the three pups in one of them and two adults in the others.
"Who is going in to investigate?" Dom asked, suddenly realising he had just unleashed an expert predator on the Town.
"I'll go." Chen Lu said, he headed inside side confidently, wearing his thick armour and his halberd in hand.
Dom decided he should probably follow him in, from a safe distance, as they approached the first gate. Dom was flanked by an armed Subutai and Homer as Chen Lu pushed the gate open, revealing a fully grown Sabre Tooth Tiger that towered over Chen Lu, who stood bravely in front of it.
Dom wasn't sure what was going to happen, and held his own sword in his hand as he suspected the Sabre Tooth Tiger may pounce on Chen Lu. However the opposite happened, the Sabre Tooth Tiger approached Chen Lu, and pushed it's head against him and started to purr.
"Good Girl." Chen Lu said, stroking the Tiger with his free hand, causing the Tiger to purr even more. "Whose a good Girl, yes you are a good Girl!"
"I think we are safe." Homer whispered to Dom, who nodded his head in surprise at the situation.
The Tiger suddenly collapsed on the floor and rolled on to it's back, lifting it's paws in the air. Chen Lu headed inside the pen and began to stroke the Tiger's belly, playing with it as it rolled around.
"Well, at least they are tamed." Subutai said with a smile, putting his sword back in it's scabbard and heading to the second pen, which he pushed open and was greeted with a similar scene himself.
After a few minutes, both Tigers had been put away and the third pen had also been opened, revealing the pups who were all cuddled up and asleep in a corner. The group discussed what they would do, and Chen Lu explained that he would take over the management of the Beast Hall with his Forbidden Guards, making sure to feed and train the Tigers. Dom was excited for the next few days as more arrived and they would begin to have patrols of heavily armoured Warriors riding on Tiger back.
Dom and Subutai left the Beast Hall and headed back towards the Town Centre, Dom had four things left to do. Firstly he needed to spawn the Mausoleum after choosing the correct area for it. Secondly he needed to use the Random Green Cube, before finally using his upgrade tokens. With the increase of one hundred warriors, he was now only short of less than one hundred more people before he should be able to upgrade the Town Centre, as he now had eight level 2 buildings.
"Where are you planning to place the Mausoleum?" Subutai asked.
"I'm not sure, because I don't know what it does." Dom replied.
"Well, the one at the Ancient Underground City held the bodies of some of their warriors." Subutai replied, "I would recommend we place it near the graves of our dead that we have been starting to to put together."
"That would make the most sense." Dom agreed, heading towards the west of the city where they had started to bury any of their dead. There wasn't much here currently as their losses had been minimum, but there was a plot of land that had been dedicated to them on the way up to the mountains.
"System, please use the Mausoleum Green Cube." Dom requested.
[Spawning Mausoleum]
There was a slight shake as a stone building appeared in front of them, similar to that they had seen in by the Lake in the Red Woods. It had several engraved pillars that surrounded the outside and a stone entrance way that would allow you to head inside. The building looked majestic and gave the burial ground a central point.
Dom hoped that this would be a part of Riverside that was rarely used, but felt it was an important part to any Town, where the characters within could mourn their friends and family who would eventually be placed here.
"System, show stats." Dom asked as Subutai walked around the Mausoleum.
[Mausoleum of Riverside
Building Grade - S
Building Level - 1
Building Perks - (Eternal Rest - A Place to store the bodies of the lost Heroes from your Civilisation)(Key to the Heart - A Place to respect those who have contributed to your Civilisation, giving them a place in your Civilisations Heart, to be remembered throughout the ages)(Unknown Perk - Upgrade needed)
The Mausoleum is a stately building that houses tombs of the most influential people. The Mausoleum is currently one story tall, but can be upgraded to have multiple underground tombs if needed. Both Heroes, Commanders and Elite Villagers can use the Mausoleum as their final resting place.
Upgrade opportunities can be found]
As Dom read the notes, he realised that this really was just a cemetery building, but for key people. He hoped he would never need to use it as all of the Heroes and Elite Villagers he had within Riverside he liked. Some of them were getting older, but Dom doubted that the game would still be relevant by the time those characters reached that particular age.
Dom wondered what the Unknown Perk was, but he didn't want to use one of his Wooden Tokens on this building, as it had no initial impact on Riverside's growth or defences. He waited for a few minutes at the graves of those that had recently passed away fighting against the Type 3 Humans at the Cave, before calling Subutai over.
They headed back towards the Town Centre, accompanied Homer and Hector who had returned to their side, soon reaching it. Dom held the Green Cube in his hand and decided to head towards the Merchant District, this and the Manufacturing districts where the least populated, but he felt it would be ideal if he could place another building in one of those. He decided he would place this building between the Docks and the Market and see what he received.
"System, please use the Random Green Cube." Dom asked.
[Rolling for Random Building....Building Selected....Tavern]
As usual, the ground shook, before a small two story building appeared in front of them. It was made from the same silver wood as the Silver Forest and looked very homely, with glass windows on the outside and an wooden archway at the entrance. Outside the Tavern were a couple of wooden benches.
"Show Stats." Dom asked, impressed that they finally had a building with some entertainment.
[Tavern of Riverside - Please Name
Building Grade - S
Building Level - 1
The Tavern has been around since the founding of Human Civilisation in some form or another, a home for people to share a drink and food with friends and family. Taverns have been known throughout history to be the centre of the Town, with people flocking to it throughout the week for a relaxation and an escape from day to day life.
The Tavern can be upgraded in multiple directions, depending on the wants for it's location.]
"A Tavern!" Homer exclaimed from behind Dom excitedly. "Hey Hector, we can have a drink later!"
"I don't think now is the time." Hector commented, nudging Homer and pointing his head towards their Lord who watched them both with a grin.
"I think you need some professional guards." Subutai commented, shaking his head at the two.
"It's fine, I enjoy the fun." Dom replied, thinking of Gregorios and Trojan who were his favourites. They had been busy with him the previous day and were currently having some time off.
"We'll need to find a good landlady for this Tavern who can look after it." Subutai said as he looked at the Tavern in the distance, "It's in a great location as we can use it to gather data from any travellers that pass through."
"I will have a think about it." Dom agreed, realising the maybe he needed a spy master who could look after a building like this. He also wondered what upgrade options there would be to the Tavern, and decided he would ask Sostratus to look at some possible options when he had chance. "We also need to name the tavern."
"I do worry about naming things." Subutai said, "We need something imaginative and welcoming to our own people, as well as travellers."
"How about Medusa's Wrath." Homer said, thinking about the face on Hectors old shield.
"That's not very welcoming." Subutai replied with a raised eyebrow.
"What about Tigers Grotto." Dom said.
"I know you are the Lord, but I need to disagree on that one." Subutai replied with a laugh.
"Well do you have any ideas?" Dom asked.
"What about the Rivers Edge?" Subutai said after thinking for a few seconds.
"Not sure about that one either." Dom replied, "This isn't going great is it."
"Let's come back to it later!" Subutai stated, "So that is all of the buildings, which should we upgrade?"
"We have two Wooden Tokens." Dom relied, still trying to think up a name for the Tavern. "We have currently upgraded the Forbidden Guards Warriors Hall, as well as having the auto upgrade of the Coinsmith from the second Blacksmith. I am thinking that we should upgrade the Mine to increase our flow of materials, and then something none military."
"Why not do the Tavern?" Homer said from behind.
"He's full of ideas today isn't he." Subutai said sharply, turning to the guard again who kept getting involved.
"I'm used to it." Dom shrugged, "But that may not be a bad idea, the population is growing and one Tavern for nearly two thousand people is not enough."
Subutai shrugged his shoulders, disappointed he couldn't persuade Dom to upgrade anything Military related, but also agreeing that his two choices were both ideal for the current situation.
"System, please use the remaining Wooden Tokens on the Mine and the Tavern." Dom ordered.
Suddenly the Tavern in front almost doubled in length, with more benches appearing outside. Dom was interested about what would be inside, and headed in that direction as he checked the stats. Grateful that he was close to another Town Centre upgrade in such a short period of time.
