I ran as fast as I could through the office building, leaping over desks and scattering papers.
"Stop that kid!" A man in a suit yelled as I sprung over more desks and creating even more chaos.
I charged into a metal, forcing it open and running into a stairwell. I looked up to find the circling stairs climb much higher than I initially expected.
I heard the pounding footsteps and angry shouting of people approaching me quickly.
Running up the stairs ain't gonna be fast enough.
I jumped up and landed on the rails of the stairs before squatting down.
"Activate Unique Skill, Air Force." I mumbled to myself.
Right as the raging mob reached me a hissing noise like a being released from a tank could be heard from my feet as I jumped upwards, firing myself up the stairwell like a rocket while leaping from rail to rail at speeds exceeding that of over a hundred meters per second. In the blink of an eye, I cleared the remaining floors and reached the top, bouncing off the wall and straight through the door. Rolling to break my fall, I got up and ran to the edge of the skyscraper before hopping over the short metal fencing so that I now balanced on the very edge of the tall building. I faced away from the direction I came while reaching back, holding onto the rails.
I took a deep breath in.
What a beautiful day.
My eyes devoured the amazing view of the marble white city that stretched on for as far as the eye could see. Hundreds of thousands of pure white homes, towers and skyscrapers scattered the landscape, basking in the warm light of the sun in the crystal blue sky.
I looked up into the sky, finding not a single fluffy cloud floating up there while the golden sun shone bright almost blinding me.
"To think that that's not even a real sun." I wondered aloud. "So how is there a day and night cycle here? Maybe I can ask mama about it?"
"Hey kid!"
I turned round, still holding onto the rails, to find multiple men in suits, some wearing sunglasses, all of them looking very tired from our little chase.
Oh brother. Didn't think they'd catch up this quick.
"You've had your fun," the one who'd already spoken panted. "Now be a good boy and give us back the gem."
"What gem?" I said feigning innocence, shrugging my shoulders.
"The gem that you stole from this building causing us to chase you in the first place." The man scowled.
This is too funny.
"Oooh," I said in an exaggerated tone. "You mean this… gem."
I pulled out a colourless gem, the size of a golf ball, that sparkled in the sun light.
"Yes, that one." The man said. "It's incredibly important that you give that back to us."
The tension in the atmosphere could be cut with a butter knife as I dramatically pondered giving it back to them.
"An interesting proposition." I said, flicking the gem up into the air before catching it like a coin. "But listen to this."
I leaned forward.
"How about no."
The man's eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his skull in rage.
"That's it!" I blonde haired girl screamed. "I'm killing the kid and taking the gem."
A miniature sun formed in her hand before she aimed it at my head.
"Don't!" The man yelped, grabbing the woman's arm, and pushing it down. "Look at the kid's eyes. Do you know anyone else who may have red eyes at birth?"
He pointed viciously at me.
The woman partially recoiled in fear as she connected the dots.
"You mean that kid is a-a part of the Cosmos Family." She stuttered.
"Nova Cosmos, son of Viro Cosmos at your service." I said with a toothy grin. "So, I'll be going now."
I popped the gem back into my pocket, saluted the group in front of me before leaning back and letting gravity take hold of me.
I plummeted downwards like a stone, the wind rushing past me as I lay on thin while the ground grew closer and closer.
Now.
I activated the Class Skill, Dark Travel, opening a portal on the hard concrete. I disappeared into it before reappearing, now flying forwards, a few metres above the road. I landed gracefully on a car with a thud as it steadily drove onwards in the high street of the city. Bystanders walking on the pavements either side of the road glanced at me with confused expressions.
"Time to head home." I said getting into a sprinting position, the palms of my hands facing behind me while being inches above the roof of the car.
A familiar hissing noise appeared from my feet and hands before I shot into the air. A the car windows exploded behind me as I flew across the road like a missile, continuously activating Air Force again and again, propelling me forward without touching the ground.
"Activate Military."
A pair of chained blades flew from my hands, impeding themselves into two buildings. Using the momentum, I grabbed hold on the chains and fired myself like a slingshot. As I soared up into the air, the city far below me now, I activated Dark Travel again and another portal was created out of thin air before diving in. I reappeared, still in the sky, above what looked like a combination of a countryside and city like environment and or civilisation. It looked as if it was in early or late winter with pure white snow lightly covering the landscape. Despite that the air was hot with the sun shining as bright as ever like it was summer. I nosedived downwards like an arrow, aiming for a peaceful looking cottage. The ground got very close very fast as a hissing noise appeared from my feet once again. Just as I was about to smash into the ground, mere centimetres away, I flung my feet forward and a massive burst of force or air erupted from them. The burst propelled me upwards slightly, both slowing me down and breaking my fall before I then landed safely with one knee bent down.
Now that, was fun.
I savoured the satisfactory moment as I felt the cold touch of the snow while basking in the warm air as I filled my lungs with it through deep breaths.
"And he sticks the landing." A feminine voice cheerfully said, accompanied with light and fast clapping.
I looked up to see a woman leaning on one of the wooden beams in the porch of the cabin like cottage. She looked like she was in her early twenties, with smooth pale skin and a beautiful figure. Her eyes were a bright red, contrasting with her long straight blackish red hair that fell to her hips.
"Mama!" I shouted with delight, running up to her and embracing her in a big hug, my head resting against her stomach.
She embraced me as well.
"Your heart's beating quite fast, what did you do?" She said looking down at me with a cheerful but slightly worried expression.
"Oh nothing, just wanted to see how fast I can go." I replied grinning. "I beginning to approach the speed of sound but I'm not quite there yet."
"With that Unique Skill of yours. What is it called again? Air something?"
"Air Force. C'mon you should know this."
"I'm sorry," she said patting my head. "How does it work again?"
"It's both simple and complicated," I began stepping away and bouncing on the porch steps. "I can generate a burst of force from the heels/bottom of my feet by compressing all the different energies and forces around that area together, condensing them and building up pressure before releasing it all in a control burst of force."
I suddenly got very excited as I remembered what I achieved today.
"I can actually fly now." I chatted, jumping up and down with joy. "By continuously going through the compression and releasing process."
"That's amazing Nova! And I noticed you are using some very big words for your age." Mama said, crouching down and tapping my nose with her finger. She then dramatically put a finger to her chin like she was thinking intensely.
"I forget, how old are you?"
"C'mon Mama, I'm eleven. It's my birthday today." I said through giggles.
"That it is." She replied with a smile.
"Lady Sylvia, is this a bad time?"
I looked behind my mother as she turned round at the same time and saw a woman (looking to be in her late twenties) dressed in a made outfit standing in front of the open door. She white as a piece of paper with short black hair along brilliant blue eyes. What was most unique about her appearance was the small golden Egyptian Ankh symbol on her left cheek. At first glance it seemed like a tattoo but on closer inspection it seemed to be a very unique looking birth mark.
"It's quite alright Kyla." Mama said, her smile still on her face.
It may be my imagination but every time Mama and Kyla bump into each other an awkwardness appears only for the briefest of moments.
"Well, I just came to say that the Ethation school phoned in telling me that Lady Kara and Master Diablo have just left with Master Viro who came to pick them up."
"Papa's back?" I said, almost in a whisper. "I thought he was out fighting the Demoreals on the front lines."
Kyla noticeably flinched at the mention of the phrase, "fighting Demoreals".
"So did I. I think Auntie Carla said that Viro might be coming back earlier than expected." Mama said, looking slightly surprised at the news.
"Is there anything you want me to do Lady Sylvia?" Kyla piped up after a moment's pause.
"Take Nova inside and prepare supper. I left a recipe for the chicken roast in the kitchen somewhere."
Kyla bowed slightly.
"Come along Master Nova," Kyla said, gently taking my hand. "I believe roast chicken is your favourite meal is it no-"
A telepathic message from a feminine voice we all knew well suddenly was implanted into our heads.
*Attention all members of the Cosmos Family and those who directly serve said members.
"Ada?" Mama said as all of us looked at each other with shocked expressions. "We barely ever see your father's Great, Great Grandmother. What does she want?"
This is a warning. A massive Demoreal Armada accompanied with over 2.5 billion other soldiers is approaching. Please take shelter while we send our counterattack and pray that this ends quickly. *
As soon as the message finished there was a long pause as well stared at each other in silence. Then, far out into the distance, the sound of sirens could be heard.
