After Ouida and the others left for the mid-level, Odis just stood inside the storage room for a long time. His emotions mixed between anger and guilt, he contemplated whether to go after his sister or not. 'Tch, She's with those two commoners, I'm sure she'll be fine...' He snorted, and his eyelids drooped. 'Why is she hanging around commoners... even after what happened to mother...'
During his childhood, Odis had always noticed how his mother was different from the other nobles. When he saw how the other nobles treated their children and how they treated the commoners, he could not understand his mother's behavior, who treated both her children and the commoners the same.
As he was only a child, he wanted his mother to give him more attention than the commoners, who the other nobles hated. He was jealous of the commoners, who got just as much attention from his mother. Also, although he was only a child, he noticed how the other nobles mocked his mother for helping the commoners, behind her back. This made him hate the commoners even more.
The final straw was when his mother got sick. Odis had always blamed the commoners for his mother getting sick and dying. Then, he started to get influenced by his noble friends and started bullying the commoners. So all this time, he had thought it natural for nobles to stand above commoners.
But after the incident in Rivenport, he started to think about his mother. He thought about her actions in the past and spent his time thinking about why she did those things. After they returned from there, he stopped hanging around his noble friends and spent his time alone.
Even after all his thinking, although he understood his mother to some extent, he still held resentment towards the commoners. A lifetime of resentment cannot evaporate with just warm thoughts.
Lost in his thoughts, he was finally broken out of his stupor with a loud sound and a tremor. It felt like the gods threw big boulders on the city.
Clenching his teeth, he quickly grabbed a broadsword from the storage and decided to go after his sister. Exiting the mansion, he rushed towards the exit which led to the mid-level. Lost in his thoughts once again, he didn't even notice the streets he was passing through.
*THUMP THUMP*
Broken out of his thoughts by the loud sounds, he could feel the monsters walking to his left, right after the exit to the street he was currently on. When he finally exit the street and turned, he saw the towering magma giants and his eyes snapped to their hollow ones, flame flickering within. As soon as he saw the flames, he felt unbelievable pressure from the giants at once, rendering him paralyzed.
"ODIS!!" he heard his sister cry out from behind him, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't turn his head around. It was too late, the giant was already in front of him. His eyes was still locked on to the giant's terror inducing face, when he saw it's face change like it was mocking him. The giant lifted it's arm up and threw a punch towards the ground, where Odis was standing.
Despite it's huge frame, the speed of it's punch was extreme. But right when the punch was about to strike Odis, Lonz appeared below the punch and lifted Odis up, escaping the punch at the last moment by the breadth of a hair.
*BAM*
The punch still struck the ground, creating a huge shockwave which threw Lonz and Odis back towards the knights like kites with their strings broken. Some knights created soft barriers to break their fall, but the speed was far too great. *Crack* The barrier cracked and exploded, but the brief moment of impact reduced their speed considerably.
Lonz held Odis tightly as they fell on the ground and bounced before coming to a stop. The knights came running towards them and helped them up, checking for any injuries. Fortunately, Odis did not have a scratch on him while Lonz only had some minor injuries.
"Odis!" Ouida came running at him with Valentina and Cadell at her back. She also checked if her brother was okay and let out a sigh of relief. "What were you doing? Why did you appear right before the monsters?" She began berating him.
"I... I didn't think the monsters were so powerful." He replied.
"You didn't think the giant monsters were strong?" Ouida was dumbfounded. "Wait.. How could you even come here feeling so much pressure? You only froze at the last second."
Odis turned his head down in embarrassment. The monsters were so huge, they could be seen from the opposite end of the city. But in his rush to reach his sister and him being lost in his thoughts on the way, he didn't even see the giants. Like a bull with tunnel vision, he could only see the way and he rushed without any thoughts in his mind.
