Keeping the shield up was not easy, but by the second hour of her shift, Myrna was proud to say that she was holding on despite the weather outside.
Everybody else settled to sleep by now, leaving Myrna on watch for threats as well. Normally, she'd idle time by reading or trying to weave something from spare thread on hand, but today she simply sat and focused on her magic.
Her mana reserves were already exhausted by a quarter. She only had two-three more hours left in her.
Or so Myrna thought until she felt the wind strike her barrier with a special bout of viciousness. The shield wobbled slightly, and Myrna had to pour more mana in it to fix the damage.
'Did the storm grow stronger?' she wondered. 'Shouldn't there be some limit to how bad it can be? Really! It was already worse than anything I've seen on land or the sea!'
