I sensed the magic before I even saw the enemy. As quickly as I did when the hound attacked, I put a barrier into place. This time, the barrier wrapped around everyone, aside from the person drawing their magic against me.

Shocked yells and screams filled the air as I pushed the innocent parties away from me. They were out of danger, and I had the space to confront the person who was trying to attack. First the hound, now this person. How many battles was I going to face before getting back to the castle. 

And, of course, the moment that thought went through my head I thought about Lex. If he knew about these attacks, he would be pissed. He would scream and rant and rave, and whatever else he could think about, just because I happened to be in a minute amount of danger.
