The whole drive was silent. Matthew heard about Sarah's sudden resignation so he was afraid to utter any words as he felt the tension coming out from Noah.
"Sir, we have arrived." As they pulled up to the grand gates of the main house, Matthew announced their arrival.
Without a word, Noah stepped out of the car and surveyed the imposing mansion before him, a symbol of the wealth and power he was born into but never truly embraced.
The moment Noah stepped into the living room, the entire hall went silent. His father, Jacob and Lynda were sitting there as they were waiting for her.
"What are you waiting for? Sit," Jacob said, his words were an order.
With a hint of annoyance in his expression, Noah headed straight to the sofa and took a seat. "I will cut this short," he immediately started the conversation but then his eyes were wide open seeing the woman that was coming from the left side. "What are you doing here?"
Grace smiled, "Did you just arrive?" She walked faster and went to take her seat. "Your dad asked me to come, he said you want to discuss our wedding day." She shamelessly acted like there was nothing going on between both of them.
Noah's jaw clenched as he tried to control his temper. He had made it clear to Grace that he wasn't interested in marrying her, but his father was determined to see them wed for the sake of the family's reputation.
"What are all these? I clearly told all of you. No marriage between me and Grace!" Noah glared at Grace, "And you! What do you want? Clearly not money, so tell me what do you want?!" He lost his calm and stood up right away.
"Don't be rude." Jacob spoke up and looked at Noah sharply. "I am the one asking her to come here and clearly I am the one who wanted to proceed with this marriage."
"Proceed with this marriage? Are you kidding me? You want to force me into a loveless marriage for the sake of your precious reputation?" Noah's voice was filled with anger and disbelief.
Lynda spoke up, "Noah, we understand your reluctance, but you have a duty to the family. Grace is a suitable match and she will make a fine wife."
Noah scoffed, "Suitable match? Fine wife? Is that all that matters to you all?"
"Yes, that is all that matters to me," Jacob answered, silencing everyone.
Noah burst out guffawing in disbelief. "What an incredible family we have!" His eyes glared down at Grace before shifting to his father. "Sometimes, I wonder, did Mom really commit suicide, or did you kill her?" His words once again chilled the air.
Grace's eyes widened in shock as Noah's words hit the room like a bomb.
Jacob's face turned red with anger as he stood up, his voice booming, "How dare you say such a thing? Your mother's death was a tragedy and you know it!"
Noah remained seated, his eyes locked with his father's, "Do I? Do I really know what happened? Or have you all just been lying to me this whole time?"
Lynda spoke up, her voice shaking slightly, "Noah, please, this is not the time or the place for this discussion."
But Noah wasn't listening. He continued to glare at his father, "You want me to marry someone I don't love for the sake of this family? Fine. But don't expect me to pretend everything is okay. I won't be your puppet."
With that, Noah stood up and walked out of the room, leaving behind a stunned and silent family.
"Drive me straight to Rodding Apartment," Noah said the moment he sat in the car. He closed his eyes, trying his best to ease his anger.
"Rodding, sir?" Matthew, who was sitting beside the driver, was confused.
Noah slowly opened his eyes. "I clearly said Rod…ding," he let out a huge sigh.
"I'm sorry, sir," Matthew immediately apologised and instructed the driver to start driving.
"Sir, may I ask you something?" Matthew spoke up as they neared the apartment.
"What is it?" Noah responded with his eyes still closed.
"I was just wondering, won't it be a problem once you get married to Miss Grace?" Matthew had been hesitant to ask, but he finally found the courage to bring it up.
Noah looked out of the window as they arrived. He didn't answer because he himself was racking up his brain to come up with a solution that would bring a win-win situation to his plan.
Matthew watched as his boss walked towards the elevator in the apartment building, his back looking lonely and burdened. Noah had been acting differently lately ever since he met Sarah, and his plan for revenge didn't seem like revenge anymore. Matthew couldn't help but wonder if Noah was already falling in love with Sarah, as his words and actions often didn't match up.
From afar, Noah could see a food delivery man standing in front of Sarah's apartment. The man looked suspicious as he kept ringing the bell and then tried to peek through the peephole on the door. "What are you doing?" Noah asked.
"Oh, nothing." The man avoided Noah's eyes and tried to leave the place.
"Stop," Noah's grip tightened on the man's arm. "I asked you, what are you doing peeping into someone's house?"
The man groaned in pain, "I didn't do anything, let me go!" He struggled to release himself from Noah's grip.
"If I ever see you here one more time, you are dead." Noah's threat was delivered with conviction.
As soon as Noah let go of his grip, the man ran away. Noah stood in front of the door for a moment before ringing the bell. He waited for a few minutes, but there was no response. Starting to get worried, he entered the passcode for the door, hoping Sarah hadn't changed it yet.
The door beeped, indicating that the passcode was correct. Noah entered the apartment and looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of Sarah.
"Sarah," Noah called out, trying to locate her, but there was no response. He could hear a faint sound coming from the open kitchen and called her name again to confirm her location.
"Please, I don't have anything, please leave," a shaky voice could be heard from the side of the kitchen cabinet.
"What are you doing there?" Noah asked when he finally found her.
Sarah's eyes widened as she was still shocked and afraid by his sudden appearance. But the feeling of relief rushed through her body, and she immediately ran towards him and hugged him.
Noah held her tightly, feeling her trembling body in his embrace. "What happened?" he asked softly.
Sarah hesitated before finally revealing, "There was a man outside, he followed me from the parking lot and he kept ringing the bell and peeking through the peephole. I didn't know what to do, so I hid in the kitchen cabinet."
Noah's grip tightened, "Did he do anything else?"
"No," Sarah shook her head but then she realised something. Quickly let go of her hands that were wrapping around Noah's body, she apologised, "I'm sorry."
Noah gently pulled away from the hug and looked at Sarah, "You don't have to be sorry. You were scared and you needed help." He gave her a reassuring smile before continuing, "Let's make sure you're safe first." He then walked around the apartment, checking all the windows and doors to make sure they were locked and secure.
Sarah looked at Noah's behaviour and got confused. A lot of things ran through her mind, but then her mouth slipped, "Why do you keep confusing me?"
