"Young master!" one soldier shouted as he saw me, his master, shield him from one of the enemy's attack.
"Quick! Get out of here!"
Half of our troops have been eliminated, the ones who were remaining now were the veterans or the lucky new recruits. The tides have turned when the large troll appeared on the battlefield. No one can match its strength, and even if one was powerful enough to injure it, it just heals itself back.
Even I can't keep up with it at all.
"Fall back! Keep the newbies safe and retreat!"
As long as I keep this troll at bay, the others won't have to worry about the weaker monsters.
"What about you, young master?" Marcus, the captain of our household's knight order, worriedly asked.
"Fuck! My father would kill me if I lose any more of you weaklings! Get out of here!"
I underestimated the enemy. I thought I would be able to handle it with the army my father provided me, but now I lost almost half of them. He won't let me get away with a mere tap on the wrist if I let them all get annihilated now.
"Quick!" I shouted, seeing how fast the enemy troll was approaching.
"Y-yes! I'll come back right away! Please survive!"
Just as I ordered him to do, Marcus quickly made orders to the knights to assemble and retreat. It would take time, but as long as it's him, I'm positive he'll successfully do it.
Meanwhile, I went to actively intercept the enemy and clash weapons with it. As expected of a troll, its swings were unbelievably heavy.
"Shit!"
As I got too absorbed in blocking its hammer, I forgot to pay attention to everything else.
"Gah!"
It's inconceivable, but it managed to fool me by only using one of its hands to swing its hammer. Before I was even able to notice it, its other hand came flying onto my side, sending me flying a few meters away from where I was.
"Shit! Shit!"
I heard that bitch Eria has defeated one of these bastard trolls recently... Are you telling me I can't do anything against the same enemy!?
As a few gap appeared between us, I took the opportunity to look at my army. Fortunately, under Marcus' commands, they were able to beat their pursuers and were able to retreat safely. The problem now is... the enemies were able to corner me with them gone.
I can't beat the enemy troll with the way I am now. Escaping should be my priority.
The goblins and kobolds cornering me in the back won't be a problem. In fact, I might as well use them to my advantage and cut through them. That's my easy way out.
"Heh... I'll be taking my leave!"
The troll was not fast on its feet at all, so running away from it should be an easy feat. Or so I thought...
Just as I was about to recreate my plan, a premonition of death bolted into my mind. I turned back to see the enemy, but what my eyes reflected instead was a massive hammer shooting directly at me at an incredible speed.
"Fuck!"
"Graaa!"
Before the enemy's weapon hit me, Marcus appeared out of nowhere and deflected the attack with his sword. I noticed how he infused magic into it, and yet it still shattered into pieces at the moment of impact.
"What are you doing here, Marcus!?"
"I said I would come back, didn't I? You know I would lose the only job I'm good at if I let you die here now!" As he said that, he immediately rushed into my side and helped me stand up.
"What about the others?" I asked while I struggle to regain my composure.
"They should be running back to the main camp. We're the only ones left here."
"I see..."
Then, without saying another word to each other, we both went running in the same direction.
It looks like Marcus has already figured out my plan to escape, so I didn't need to say to him what he needs to do.
Just what I was planning to do before, I cut into the horde of enemies blocking my way with my sword. Even if they were wearing armor, mere goblins and kobolds won't be able to do anything to stop my stride.
Marcus followed behind me as I continue to break through the thin line of enemies. Without his sword, that's all about he's capable of doing now.
The enemy troll started running towards us as well, but it was too slow to catch up. With the enemies keeping us cornered gone, we were finally able to secure our escape.
"We need to report this to your brothers immediately! Those were not ordinary monsters!" as soon as he judges that we were finally safe from the enemies, Marcus starts to speak out what was in his mind.
"Tch! What even are those? All of them have some kind of armor! That guy's weapon isn't ordinary either!"
"We'll need the help of the guild with this as well. No, not just them, we might also need to send a request to the capital for backup just in case."
The prior reports from the scouts said there were at least five trolls that were in that army... I never imagined one of them to be powerful enough to be capable of defeating our entire group.
Marcus is right, we'll need all the help we can get. With that said...
Father went to the capital by the King's order. Is it just me, or is that controversial request he was talking about was somehow related to the situation we're in right now? It can't be just a mere coincidence!
I heard rumors about it, but they were just too hard to believe... The Dark army, is it true that they're finally making their move?
If that is true, it would be difficult to ask the capital for help, and we'll be stuck fighting these monsters on our own.
"Shit! We only have C and B rank adventurers in the guild! I'm also only an equivalent of a B rank adventurer myself... This is the worst case scenerio!"
