Esme caught the ball on reflex but was also surprised to see that it was a strike. Edward tried to hit it, but Paul sent the ball to the corner with great speed and force, making it a strike.
The other vampires were also surprised, even though Edward didn't take the game seriously, hitting the ball didn't require being faster than the one throwing it, so Paul had at least the same speed as Edythe to do it.
"Edward, I told you to take Paul seriously, now you embarrassed yourself. If you lose two more times, you're out," Emmett said.
"There won't be a next time, Paul. I won't underestimate you again," Edward replied.
Paul wanted to tell Edward that it was just a game, but seeing him so serious, he remembered that Edward was an eternal teenager who cared about these things. Still, Paul knew that Edward almost hit the ball.
So, to get revenge on Edward for trying to read his mind, Paul thought it was time to steal a bit to at least eliminate Edward. It was time for Paul to use his secret weapon, the curveball with telekinesis.
The vampire curveball already seemed supernatural, Paul just had to focus on making it faster and with less curve, then he would make the ball curve with his telekinesis, so even if Edward was fast, he wouldn't hit it.
Paul sent a ball that Edward thought was a fastball, he got angry and thought he was being underestimated. Edward saw where the ball was going and tried to hit it, but soon the ball made a big curve down and Edward missed the hit again, the second strike.
"Strike two, Edward, one more and you're out," Edythe laughed.
Since this time it was a curveball, the other vampires didn't find it so strange that Edward missed, but Edward knew that the ball had been too fast to be a curve, it must have been a style that Paul had achieved by becoming a vampire, it was difficult to hit.
Even the Denali coven vampires who knew about the power of telekinesis could not imagine that Paul was cheating. After all, only power was needed to stop three enemy vampires, but a lot of control was needed to use telekinesis on a ball traveling at over 600 km/h.
Edward was focused on not being eliminated with a third strike. He had never been eliminated before and would be embarrassed if it happened in Paul's first game. He realized that Paul would not underestimate him and throw a fastball.
So Edward concentrated his attention and reflexes to see when the ball would drop on the curve for him to hit, after all, it should be very difficult to put the curve in the ball for it to descend at that speed.
Paul threw another ball and Edward was alert. When the ball was coming to the right spot, Edward calculated and hit it, and soon Esme had the ball in her glove. The curve this time was up and Edward didn't even come close to hitting it, and he was eliminated.
"Strike out! You're out, Edward!" shouted Edythe, happy that Edward was eliminated.
Edward was shocked and the other vampires didn't expect that either. Edward threw the metal bat away and the other vampires just laughed as if they expected him to do that.
The game continued and Paul's team continued to increase their lead, and no one on Alice's team had been able to score a point. When it was Paul's turn, he hit the ball that Alice threw and made a home run.
Carlisle felt it was a shame. If he put Paul to bat fourth, they could score 3 or 4 points at once, but soon they ended up winning when Alice's team gave up seeing that they couldn't recover.
Edward left upset with the loss. Paul let Edward hit a hit, but Edward was still eliminated because Jasper caught the ball in the air, so Edward had been eliminated twice.
Edythe and everyone on Paul's team was very happy with their victory. Carlisle even regretted giving his team such a big advantage. Alice was happy that Paul was a good pitcher like her, and Emmett was also happy.
"Paul, I didn't expect you to be so good at baseball. If you're this good at other sports, it will be fun when you come to live with us in the future," said Emmett.
"I'm glad you didn't mind losing. I saw that Rosalie and Edward seem to hate me now," Paul joked.
"Edward isn't used to losing. At home, I always make a team with him and we rarely lose. Plus, Edward has never been eliminated by a pitcher with his speed before. On the other hand, you won the friendship of Edythe, who never liked losing," said Emmett.
In the following days, Paul noticed that Edward was still upset with him and Rosalie just ignored him as before. Paul didn't care and continued to think about Alice, who still looked at him sometimes.
Soon, the weeks passed and the Cullens would leave soon. Carlisle still hadn't decided where they would go, but it would be far from Forks, so Carlisle wouldn't worry about anyone recognizing his family.
Tanya was sad because Edward still hadn't shown interest in her in the past few weeks. She didn't try to distance herself from Edward anymore, but it seemed that this time Tanya still couldn't be with Edward.
"Tanya, I wanted to talk to you in private. Maybe... you can bring Kate too, but Irina can't come," Edward said.
Tanya was excited, but hearing that Kate could also hear the private conversation, it shouldn't be anything as she thought. Edward didn't want to be with her, he wouldn't want to be with the two sisters.

"It's not because of the baseball game. I tried to read Paul's mind when I arrived, but for some reason, I couldn't. I'm worried that Paul has some kind of defense against my powers and has infiltrated your house for some reason," Edward said.
