The knights were never told to check the carriage of the duke. There were five carriages in total. Two belong to the family of marques while three belong to the duke.

One of the marquis' carriages was empty and another had four servants with a lot of bags. They opened the seats and checked that they only had the luggage of servants.

The duke's first carriage had a knight and his child sleeping. Second carriage had two maids and one knight. The last carriage had luggage and… weapons?
