After the trap was set off, the child of course didn't just let the hob-goblin stand till and watch. He ordered the Hobgoblin to rush straight for the taken down kobold.
And without wasting time, the hobgoblin immediately raised its axe the moment it got close.
Woosh! Chut!
But, the kobold was too nimble, even though the the hobgoblin attacked it while it was down, it still managed to dodge. Lettting the falling axe to stab into the ground instead.
The hobgoblin pulled the axe out o the ground. But it was too late, with the time it took to get the axe out of the ground, the kobold had gotten up and charged closer to the hob-goblin.
Wich was a mistake. A mistake the now dead kobold on the stump had once made. But this kobold did not know that hob-goblins thrived in close combat. So it got closer with intentions to scratch the hob-goblin's face off.
Only to be met with the green and bare feet of the hobgoblin to the chest.
Bam!
The kobold was kicked back. It was stunned, but the hobgoblin was not, so it raised its axe and attacked. The kobold tried to dodge, but...
Sluch!
The blade part of the axe sliced a good part of its jaw off.
"Awwhh!"
That dog like howl was heard once again by the hobgoblin. Only this kobold was no juvenile, but a fully grown kobold. It jumped back while clutching its heavily bleeding snout.
But how could the hobgoblin let it have its way? So the hob-goblins ran foward to finish it off, Only to be stopped by it track by an attack from the side.
Bam!
A rock impacted the hobgoblin head. Or rather, the helmet protecting its head. Due to the previous attack, he helmet was greatly dented and looked more like a thrown out can of soda than anything else. But although the helmet was busted in many place, it still did its job quite well. So even though the rock did do some damage to the hobgoblin, it was till fine.
The hob-goblin then looked at the direction where the attacked arrived from. It was of course one of the kobolds.
When the trap was triggered, the attack had managed to hit all three kobolds, but because the cluster of logs wasn't that big, it only managed to properly take down one kobold. The other two were still hit, but since they weren't the focus of the attack, they were able to get up without much trouble.
One of the kobold got up much quicker because it was about to be attacked by the hobgoblin. But the other only got up not too long ago.
Now both kobold stood on their feet, but one of them was injured due to the hobgoblin's attack.
In the child's eyes, there was only one way he win this battle. Take out the weakest link first.
So the hob-goblin roared and ignored the incoming projectile attacks. It charged directly at the injured kobold with its axe readied.
Woosh!
The hobgoblin swung its axe, but alas, it was a step too slow, as the axe only met air. With the kobold having dodged the attack.
Thinking quickly, the child ordered mid attack to changed the force exerted on the axe. So right after the axe had missed, the hobgoblin pulled it back. Surprising the kobold that had still clutched its snout.
As the axe returned, it returned with the nail part at the front. The nail stabbed right into the right arm of the kobold. The very arm it was using to cover its bleeding snout.
The scene was gory and outright heart wrenching, but the kobold had no time to think about that. Nor did it care how painful it was for the kobold. So it pulled the axe as well as the stabbed arm to itself. Thus tearing the kobold's flesh deeper.
Bam!
With another kick, the kobold was thrown a meter away. With all the pain going through its body, the kobold failed to stand still. So it fell to the ground, with its blood pooling on the ground.
The hob-goblin raised the axe, but an attack from the other kobold jerked its head back. Effectively stopping it from attacking further.
The hob-goblin grew angry at such an attack, but there was nothing it could do to the kobold. This was because the kobold had noticed its long ranged weakness. So the kobold made sure that it didn't get close at all. It adopted the same technique as its dead pack member.
It attacked from a distance.
As for the bloody kobold on the ground, it had long escape from the hob-goblin's range.
Not too far from the hob-goblin, the previously attacked kobold stood up. One of its arm was likely hurt, as it dangled motionlessly on its shoulders.
But the right arm, which still looked good, was grabbing onto a rock? ready to jump in.
The child sighed, "It seems like things aren't going as I had planned."
The child's original plan was simple. Get the hobgoblin to lure the kobolds into the trap. Once they're grounded by the trap, the hobgoblin would then swoop in and make them rest eternally.
But the kobolds were too good. Even after that attack, only one of them was truly down. And even that one was already on its feet.
With all three kobold standing, the child found the hob-goblin's probability of success dwindling. Plus, becaue of its low stamina, the hobgoblin was going to reach it's limit soon.
The child thus determined that this was a fight that it could not win. So he ordered the hobgoblin to do its last thing before going for plan B.
The goblin thus threw the axe in it's hands at the one kobold that was barely injured. The kobold dodged the attack, but the hobgoblin wasn't intending on hurting it. Since the moment it threw the axe, it ran away immediately.
Seeing the hob-goblin running, the three came back to their senses. With a roar like bark from all three, they chased after the hobgoblin.
Its didn't take long to the kobolds to catch up to hobgoblin. But it was not because the hobgoblin was slow and the kobolds were fast. It was because the hobgoblin had met with a dead end.
Behind it was the three raging, kobolds. While in front was a cliff. Although he hobgoblin did not see the end of It, it was clear that the fall down would not he nice. Couple that with the inherent knowledge it has about hights and a certain part of its brain, what came out was whole bundle of fear. So, soon enough, the hobgoblin felt its legs wobble.
This was the end.
It was going to die.
The child on the other side of the forest spammed the hobgoblin with as much orders as he possibly could.
"Jump," he ordered. But the order was ignored by the hobgoblin. It was too afraid. Beneath that muscle, it was still a goblin after all. So the child could only sigh. He stopped ordering the hobgoblin and only watched as it slowly approached its doom.
One of the kobolds gripped a rock nearby, clearly intending on throwing it. As it did not want to get closer to the hob-goblin. Soon...
Woosh!
The rock flew towards the hobgoblin, but the rock only managed to pass through the air. As its target was no longer where it was headed.
The hobgoblin jumped.
...
Although it's pretty easy to guess, what do you think will happen to the hob-goblin?
Nine kobolds kneeled on the ground. Their hands were too on the ground, with their heads lowered.
Among the nine, only two were injured. One had a possibly dislocated arm with a few broken ribs. While the other had a small chunk of its snout cut out. On its arm, there was jarring wound that came from one part to the next. Making an actual hole on the poor kobold's arm.
But although these wounds of it's body were terrifying, the kobold kneeled down just like the rest.
Among these nine kobolds, there was another that stood out among them. It was largely due to it having gray fur rather than the common brown and black, but it was also because it was the only one that did not bow its head too low.
Occasionally, the kobold looked up to see another kobold right in front of it. This kobold was gray furred just like the It. Only it was a tad bit bigger. Standings at a height of 1.7 meters.
"So, you are saying that you not only failed to avenge your brother, but couldn't retrieve the youngling's body?"
The kobold said angrily. All three kobold looked down in shame.
"There was nine of you and only six of them. How could you have failed like this? To such a small xreature even." The kobold standing in front the nine asked. As it said this, it took a glance at the green skinned goblin that laid unconsciously on the ground not far away.
"They had strange methods of attack. We failed due to lack of preparation and information."
After saying this, the kobold presented the spear and axe that was discarded by the hob-goblins and goblins as they made their escape.
"They used these items to combat. We do not know where they got them or what they truly are, But they are really strong."
The banged up kobold was proof enough of what was said. So the kobold hold on their failure too much. Maybe these creatures were as terrifying as they said.
"And, these creatures aren't just this big. There was two others who were almost as big as us. I believe this one was just a youngling."
The kobold in front did not say a word after that. It only went over and grabbed the spear. Because the kobolds only have two finger bones sticking out of their palms, having a good grip on the cylindrical spear was hard. But it nonetheless managed.
It touched the tip using its palm, only to feel the stinging pain of its palm bring pierced.
The kobold then went over to the dead one. It looked at the jarring injuries and then back at the items it held in its hands. The spear was obviously used to pierce the kobold, while the axe was use to decapitate it.
Seeing such injuries, the kobold was able to recognise the threat. It then went over towards the unconscious goblin.
Using the spear, the kobold stabbed into the goblin's arm.
"Ahhh!"
The goblin woke up to the horrifying pain of its arm being stabbed.
The kobold through, did not seem to care. It seemed to be only fascinated with the weapon in its hand than anything else.
As up till now, the kobolds have never used weapons. The closest they could get to a weapon used by them would be the thrown rocks. But even they did not have as much lethality as the item it held in its hand.
It was not because the kobolds were stupid, but merely that they never needed to use weapons up until now. Most of their hunts only required speed and precise planning. And since they didn't have any prominent predators, there was no reason to find more efficient attack methods.
But it seems the arrival of the goblins has changed that.
The kobold started to worry. In one day, two of their own have died and three were injured. What have they to show that they have fought a battle? Only three younglings from the opponent!
Clearly, these creatures were an enemy. An enemy they could not ignore.
So, the kobold then and there made a decision.
"Gather the pack. A new enemy has entered our territory."
All the kobolds barked in response. They then left leaving the the larger kobold alone in the hut with the screaming goblin.
The kobold disregarded the goblin, and only focused on the two weapons in its hand. From what it had heard and seen, the goblin was really weak and will meets it end very soon. It's only use at the moment was to show the other pack members what the enemy looked like.
But little did it know that a far more dangerous threat bigger than a mere goblin listened from afar.
"I never would have thought that the goblins would let one of the goblins live. But this seems to work in my favour." The child still sighed though. "Sadly, it is too dark for the goblin to see. Otherwise I would have gotten a clearer vision of the opponent."
As for hearing, the child could not understand a thing of what the kobolds were saying. The most he could catch from them were a few grunts here and there.
As for information about the enemy, that was limited as well. The most he could understand is that the ground is more clearer than normal. Meaning that these kobolds at least have some level of architectural preference.
Plus, since he could not see the moon or the stars anywhere, The goblin must have been in some sort of building or at least a covering.
In the darkness, not much could be heard or seen by the goblin. Well, other than its own screams of pain. But, at that moment, something brought its scream to an abrupt stop. It felt itself get held by a large claw like hand. Even though it weighed a few kilograms, the goblin was pulled effortlessly.
As the child could feel everything the goblin could, he was at that time recording everything that could be felt from the goblin's senses.
After being tagged for some time, the goblin was then let go. Finally, the child saw a little bit of light entering the goblins eyes. Such little light could barely be of use to see in the dark, but for the child, it was enough. Using his superior mind, he recorded every bit of light that came to the goblins eyes. With It, the child barely formed an unclear picture.
"Oh my..."
The child sighed. As what he saw was a little bit beyond his expectations. What he saw was a pack of more than 30 kobolds. Although he could not tell how many of them are combatants, he believed that taking down such a group will not be easy.
