"So, just curious," I glanced sideways at my fiancé who'd gotten a little paler since she became a vampire even more than the fair complexion attributed to her elven blood, "what level are you now?" 

"Why are you so curious?" she asked, feigning suspicion. "Could it be because you think you've finally caught up to me?" 

Yes—and I have. 

The last time we swapped tales back before our second run of Castle Vlad, Liara was level thirty-six. She may have gained a level or two since becoming a bloodsucker—gods know Castle Vlad had been stingy about leveling a werewolf like me up—but I was confident the gap between us had lessened considerably. 

Then, as if to prove me wrong, Liara did something that was even less common than witnessing a blue moon night on Earth…she showed me the top lines of her status bar.
