An ear-piercing shriek filled the air as the occupants of the inn gawped at the fact that a level five's arm was just snapped like a stick of spaghetti. I could never really understand the difference in levels when it came to Danmachi's system. I once read somewhere that upon levelling up, an adventurer would gin an overall 20% boost to their stats.
But then Bell's feats far outclassed what a normal person should be capable of at his level. Defeating a BLACK Goliath when he was level 2? You needed groups of a few level twos and and threes to take down something like that.
But then again he did have that completely BS skill Argonaut on him. And with Liaris Freese constantly raising his stats the more he became emotional, he was able to perform a limit break that drove them beyond what they would normally be. Man, he was such a cheat...
'Why the hell am I complaining? I'm the biggest cheat there is. All my powers, all my equipment, things I haven't even worked for. I really wonder what my level will be?'
I was well aware of the fact that no matter what you did prior to receiving a blessing, your stats would be zero and any prior experiences you had will act as a base for you to stack Excelia on top of. But my constitution was utter horse**** to an outsider, as what I had based my avatar on was world breaking, reality warping stuff.
Not to mention I felt there were some things about me that I still didn't know yet. Call it an instinctive feeling, but I felt there were other things given to me upon transmigration which I had not discovered.
'Oh yeah, where was I?'
Bete was no screaming like a a puppy having the crap kicked out of it as his forearm was bent backwards on an angle?
"YOU BASTARD. What did you do to me?" he snarled in complete anger and contempt.
"...I broke your arm. What does it look like?"
Hi glare intensified as he gripped his arm tighter. I took a glance at his teammates. I absolutely cherished the scared look on elf bitch Lefiya's face. The fact that I had just pretty much broken one of her stronger Familia member's arm with no visible effort on my part really spooked her. She should be level two about now if I'm not mistaken.
Something about her just really rubbed me the wrong way. from the moment I saw her in the anime, I just didn't like her. Oh, it would be so easy to just step over there and tear her head off in the span of a millisecond...
'cough' 'cough' Anyway, Riveria ever the loving mother of her team was not as affected as much as I thought she would be. She definitely looked concerned for Bete, but more in a way as if she though he finally got something he deserved and he was paying a price.
Finn just did not look at all bothered by anything and had a leg up on his chair, with his head leant on his palm. His eyes swiveled towards me, and he raised an inquisitive brow. Gareth was just watching everything unfold while tapping his fingers away and Ais was just Ais.
Loki however was a different story. And not that she was aghast at my actions towards one of her children. No, even if her eyes were mostly closed I knew for a fact I had her undivided attention now. She was intently looking me up and down, examining me with what I guessed was her divine sight. It wasn't as probing or intrusive as Freya's gaze but she was definitely looking for my soul to get a measure of me.
I say looking because if everything was as I had planned, she wouldn't find one. It would only be visible when I activated 'Vanadis Odr', and it was designed specifically to attract Freya.
I know, I know, I keep stressing about the fact that I'm interested in a borderline cruel, petty, callous goddess who only looked upon mortals souls as pieces of art to put in her collection if they possessed enough talent. But I'll justify my simping later. For now...
"Alright, enough with your whinging. I'll fix it for you." I said as I lifted my hand.
"[Greater Heal]"
A green magic circle of Yggdrasil appeared in front of my palm, slowly spinning and casting light in a short radius. Bete's arm was encompassed in swirling, glowing green mist before the arm corrected itself, and one could hear the bones knitting themselves back together again. When the light faded, Bete stared dumbfoundedly at his arm, the pain having gone away. Slowly he flexed his fingers.
"Its healed." he muttered.
Everyone suddenly broke out into larger bouts of murmuring. I had revealed a very rare card to them after all. Healing magic of this level was not all common, and they were extremely valuable in any exploration type Familia. It lowered the need for potions. Instantly, Riveria was captivated by my casual display of magic. I could almost hear the typical lines going through her head, chantless magic and whatnot. She was a magic fanatic from what I knew about her.
Magic is the specialty of elves after all. Though most of my knowledge about Danmachi came from the anime and fanfictions. I'd never really read the light novels or much of the manga.
In other words, I had little knowledge about this world really. But when your invulnerable, you can afford to be ill-equipped I guess.
What I did know though, was that somebody couldn't use magic without a blessing. If there were any, those were very special cases. So the obvious conclusion everyone came to was that I was a part of some Familia.
But naturally they were quizzed as someone like me who just did everything I did would surely be well known by now. Were they in for a bit of an awakening. I should be alarmed at the fact that those with more inquisitive and sharp eyes, like dear mama elf over there would definitely see that the magic circle was different to those of this world. But I was honestly unconcerned. It would eventually be normalized in the context of my person.
I turned around about to head to the counter when I heard Bete spring up behind me and I practically felt the air pushing off from the swing off his fist as it came into contact with my back. And this is where the laws of physics were given the middle finger, as the shockwave rattled pretty much the entire room and my body absorbed most of the blow.
But there I stood remaining as if nothing had happened to me at all.
If you're going to start grilling me on this, just remember it's anime logic. Everything counts. Use Saitama vs Bakuzan as a reference.
"Attacking from behind? I would have imagined that a seasoned adventurer would have moved past something like that long ago." I said in a bored voice. I was staring straight at Mama Mia, to whom I gave an apologetic look. She was still staring at me, unsure of what to do. I took a lot of pride in the fact that I was able to make this woman act out of character. Normally things would never have escalated this far.
I then whipped around and grabbed Bete by the face, hoisting him up in the air in one arm and smushing his cheeks together, the way men absolutely hated. I then walked over to the table where my food still was, currently occupied by the Loki Familia.
I shot a pointed stare at Loki, who was still examining me with a confused expression. Probably still scouring me for a soul.
"You. Are you the this idiot's goddess?" I asked her. She raised her head a little higher and flashed a bright smile at me.
"I am. What of it?"
I tossed the impudent mutt at her feet and he landed on his chest getting the air knocked out of him.
'oomf'
"Keep your litter under control." I said coldly. I sat back down at my seat and continued eating, all to aware of the fact my table companions were exchanging looks with each other, glancing at me from time to time.
I felt someone shuffle up beside me to my left, and looked up to see Ais nearly breaching my personal space, staring at me unblinking with her emotionless gaze.
I could almost hear the inaudible 'Jiiiiiiiiiii' that no one ever seemed to notice in an anime. Coming from a girl, that usually meant a sort of interest in the one that the stare was directed at...
Come to think of it, despite her cold expression, she really is quite beautiful...
I'll probably come to her later. I have already explicitly expressed my priorities.
"What is it?" I asked her.
"You're strong." she replied.
"..."
"..."
"Okayyyyy...what about it?"
"She means to ask what level are you?" Loki shuffled up to my other side. But unlike the kuudere on my left, this blockhead completely leaned in to my personal space, her head almost touching my lap as she looked up at me.
"None." I replied bluntly and continued spooning beef soup into my mouth.
"What do you mean none?" Loki persisted.
"I mean that I don't have a level."
Finn decided to step in. It was odd hearing a boys voice from someone three times my age.
"I guess the appropriate question would be what Familia are you in?" He said.
I put my spoon down and deadpanned everyone at the table. The fact it was pindrop silent in the tavern around us and that our convo was pretty much being broadcasted to everyone there completely slipped my attention.
"Wouldn't the appropriate thing be that you introduce yourselves to me first and exchange identities if you have inquiries?"
"Don't you know who we are?" Gareth asked me.
"I'm afraid I don't know who anyone is. I am new here after all."
"Well then, allow us to introduce ourselves." Finn said standing up on the other side of the table and bowing with his hand on his chest.
"My name is Finn Deimne, I am the captain of this Familia." He gestured to to Riveria. "This is Riveria Ljos Alf, my vice-captain. The dwarf over here is Gareth, one of our foremost executives. The other elf here is Lefiya, one of our newer members as of recently. The girl next to her is Ais Wallenstein, our renowned Sword Princess. The two amazons over there are Tione and Tiona Hiryute." I'd forgotten about those two. I looked over at them. Tione was looking at me certainly interested about me, but knowing her zealous love of her captain, nothin would come of it. Tiona however had stars in her eyes as she stared at me. She was leaning over Lefiya and would probably be next to me if not for Ais. "And last but not least is our Goddes over there, Lady Loki." Loki who was still looking up at me grinned.
"And the mutt?" I gestured to Bete who was standing near the table but at the furthest point from me.
"That would be Bete Loga."
I turned to address them fully.
"My name is Garth Ragnar, aspiring adventurer and newcomer to the center of the world."
"And have you ever been in a Familia before this point?" Loki asked me finally leaning back out of my personal space. Having realized this, I turned back to Ais to see if she'd moved away. Nope, she was still staring at me. ha she even blinked until this point?
"No I have not ever been in any god's family before this point."
"You mean to tell me you broke a level five's arm and you don't even have a blessing?" Gareth raised a brow. "I'm sorry son but that is pretty much impossible."
I shrugged.
"Believe what you will. I don't need anyone to offer rationality on my behalf just to prove myself of my abilities and my powers. What will speak for itself is what I will achieve from here on out." I said calmly, spooning the last of my meal into my mouth. I grimaced that my tankard was empty. I really needed a drink for this.
The Loki Familia were looking at each other, seemingly communicating silently with each other, possibly over my words. They directed their gaze at their goddess who flashed them a bright grin.
"He hasn't lied once this whole conversation."
The tavern suddenly burst into murmurs and mumblings over this seemingly startling revelation. I just sat there counting the money I needed to give to Mia before I took my leave. And being the shameless goddess and opportunist she is known to be, Loki swung around fully in her seat, her legs suspending momentarily in the air before they plopped down on the ground again.
"Well if you're strong enough to break one of the strongest adventurers in Orario's arm so effortlessly without an blessing or prior enhancements, there's no telling how powerful you'll be when you get one. Especially considering you already have a grasp on that strange magic of yours." Riveria perked up again at the mention of my arcane arts. Loki leaned forward elbows resting on her knees, her head in her palms as she opened her eyes fully and stared at me.
"So how about it kid? Wanna join my Familia?"
