Carter Wilford was also watching the news of Alex Ross' examination. He was shocked to see the senior lawyer walking into the FBI office with a tense face along with some of his equally tense partners. Carter reached for the phone and dialed his top private investigator.

  "Duncan, have you heard about Alex Ross being questioned by the FBI in the Reef Davis money laundering case?"

  "Sir, this time I'm no longer using the name Duncan. My pseudonym is now....."

  "I don't care!" snapped Carter. "I want to know the results of your investigation into Alex Ross like I asked you to do long ago."

  "All right," Duncan said. "I've actually sniffed out a connection between Alex Ross and the money laundering case. But I was a little skeptical, so I didn't tell you about it. But apparently the FBI was convinced and acted quickly."

"What made you doubt?"
