Chương 72: Chapter 72: Monster's Curiosity
The gentle wind blew as snow fell from the sky, onto the ground, and onto the two ice statues that stood together. Herold was staring at the enemy in front of him, calming himself after the revelation, and Eon was just watching Herold like a curious monster eager to learn more.
For a few seconds, they just stared at each other, as if waiting for the other to make the first move. Herold set aside his shield and reached for his Dimensional Storage while keeping his gaze fixed on Eon. Herold took a circular vial bottle containing blue liquid from the invisible storage, which he was the only one who could see. It was a Small MP Potion that, when consumed, restored 100 MP. Herold took the wooden closure off the bottle and drank the MP potion.
Herold drank it quickly and returned his attention to Eon, who was still standing and watching him. As he rubbed the excess blue liquid from his lips, his brow furrowed.
"Interesting," Eon said, nodding slowly.
"Are you really going to stand there and watch me prepare to defeat you?" Herold asked, taking up his shield. Herold, on the other hand, was aware that Eon's behavior benefited him because his main goal was to buy as much time as possible. And having Eon simply stand there and watch was the best situation he could have asked for.
"You have a nice set of equipment. You've gotten free stats, defense, and skills just by wearing that equipment?" Eon asked, crossing his arms.
"Aren't you a little too polite for a monster?" Herold asked, raising his sword.
"Tell me, can I possibly have your equipment after I kill you?" Eon asked politely and gently.
Herold shivered and chuckled, attempting to fight the horror in his system. "You have good eyes for equipment," he said, raising his head and smirking. "But I'm afraid that isn't possible because this set of equipment was made for me and is imbued with magic, so even if you kill me, you won't be able to use it."
"Ah... That's a shame to hear," Eon said, uncrossing his arms. "I was only going to kill the rogue circling around, but I decided to include you and the two because your equipment piqued my interest; if what you're saying is true, then this is a meaningless tragedy for all of you," Eon began to walk forward. "However, I still want to prove your words; let's see if what you're saying is true."
Herold took a step back and assumed a battle stance. After hearing Eon's reason for attacking their entire party, what could be seen in his eyes was overwhelming grief. He suppressed it, however, and focused on his goal. "Tell me who created you and what your goal is," he inquired, attempting to buy more time.
"I was born from the blood and soul of my father, Vaas the conqueror," Eon said, raising his hands. "I've come to take what is rightfully mine... This world."

A pair of pure white wings emerged from Eon's back and were immediately covered in Ice Armor. He jumped away from Herold to avoid the Anti Blink Field, which had a radius of ten meters. Then he began his assaults.

[Barbaric Rush has been activated.]
Because Eon had exited Anti Blink Field, he could now use Barbaric Rush. Eon charged toward Herold, his wings flapping.
Herold, on the other hand, shielded his body to deflect the incoming attack. He then prepared his sword for a counterattack after Eon had finished his attacks.
Instead of charging straight into Herold's shield, Eon spun in the air and used his speed to avoid it before lunging his fists into Herold's face. Eon was so quick that everything happened in a split second, leaving Herold with no time to even dodge.

Eon's attacks did not deal as much damage as they should have due to Herold's combination of defense value and Vanguard. However, the damage Herold sustained was far from harmless. Herold was not affected by Icy Touch's freezing effect because Eon purposefully did not activate it to protect Herold's equipment.
By charging forward, Herold pushed Eon's fist away from his face. He screamed loudly and waved his flaming sword, which had the effect of the skill Blazing Strike. Eon evaded Herold's counterattack by flying away and landing just in front of him. The raging wave of fire had struck nothing.
Despite surviving the attack, blood poured from Herold's mouth as a result of the devastation he had suffered.

Herold took a bottle of red liquid from his Dimensional Storage and immediately chugged it down. And then chugged four more. Those five potions were Small HP potions, each restoring 100 HP. Herold exhaled loudly as he threw the last bottle he was holding. And when he returned his gaze to Eon, he found him just watching as before.
"Not only MP, but also HP," Eon pointed out. "What else do you have inside your invisible storage, which I presume is your Dimensional Storage?"

"A lot, including the corpses of vicious monsters like you," Herold said, raising his shield and smirking despite the blood streaming from his mouth. Herold shrugged. "While we're at it, talking like friends in the middle of a death battle, and just after you killed my friends... Why don't you take off your stupid armor and show me your face first? With that thick helmet on, I assume you have a face you don't want anyone to see."
"About 30 seconds..." Eon said, raising his gaze to the area of forest behind Herold. "No, maybe faster because she just fell down; she's already blind from the tears in her eyes; she's getting slower and slower with each passing second; she'll soon be unable to run."
"What are you talking about?" Herold inquired, his voice befuddled.
Eon's gaze darted toward Herold. "I've been watching the girl you let escape since she fled, and it appears I can easily catch up with her once I'm done with you."
Herold's eyes flashed with rage. "Freak!" screamed Herold as he charged toward Eon. With just one declaration from Eon, Herold's sanity flew out the window, and he decided to attack Eon. "You must first kill me before I will allow you to harm Caserie!"
"That's exactly what I intend to do," Eon said as he waved his wings and flew away from Herold.

Eon charged at Herold. Herold struck Eon with his flaming sword and his skill, Blazing Strike. Eon, on the other hand, avoided the attack by simply flying up and down. Then he lunged his fist at Herold.
Herold raised his shield next to his face to block the incoming attack after realizing what Eon was up to. Eon, on the other hand, drew his fist back and rolled in the air before punching the top of Herold's head. Herold tried to avoid the attack by jumping away, but it was impossible for him to avoid the inevitable Barbaric Rush. Then Herold let out a loud roar as the ground beneath him crumbled and pulled him down as a result of Eon's devastating combination of attacks.

As he struggled to rise from the attack, Herold's agonizing growls echoed. His hands moved to grab another vial from his Dimensional Storage, attempting to heal himself with HP potions and prolonging his life in order to increase Caserie's meager chances of escaping. He coughed up blood, which flew out of his mouth. His helmet had a dent on the top and one of its horns had been destroyed.
"I need to... survive longer," Herold said to himself, shivering and chasing his own breath. "Longer..."
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that any longer," Eon said as he approached Herold. "This battle is over."
Herold's despairing eyes could only stare at Eon, slowly losing the last of his life in them. "Can't you just let her go?"
Eon placed his hand around Herold's neck. "I can't, especially since you mentioned reporting on me and sending people after me."
Herold's eyes widened as he realized what Eon had said. "It's all my fault," he said, tears streaming down his normally tough face. His eyes went blank, life had left them, and so had his will to live.
"It wasn't your fault; I was the one who miscalculated the situation, and now it's mine to deal with," Eon gently explained.

Herold closed his eyes and transformed into an ice statue. However, his equipment remained undamaged because Eon directed the freezing effect of Icy Touch to specifically avoid the equipment. Eon took his hand off Herold's neck and stared at his frozen body for a few moments.

Eon remained motionless for a few seconds, staring at Herold. He then knelt and reached out to grab Herold's sword. He firmly gripped the Firewyrm's handle.
[Notice.]
[It is not possible to use equipment that you do not own.]
"I see. So what he said was true." Eon dropped the sword on the ground and looked in the direction of Caserie, who was fleeing. "It's time to put an end to this."
His wings flapped, propelling him into the sky. Then he rushed forward with incredible speed.
