Chương 38: Flying Daggers

The royal espionage squadron, the Flying Daggers is tasked with a new mission! That is to infiltrate the Desolate Mountain!

Sui Yang, the handsome leader, of the Flying Daggers, scoffed at this mission. His team consisted of all 3rd stages with him being at the peak of 3rd stage. They are strong especially here in the Biron kingdom.

The reason Sui Yang is looking down on this mission is that he has been in the Desolate Mountain before and it doesn't have anything to show much other than its unsurpassable bleakness.

Of course, he has heard the news of the rise of a new power calling themselves the System's Providence Sect. Again, Sui Yang looked down on this power for a good reason too.

As the best espionage group, he has confidence that he knew everything there is to know about the Biron Kingdom. If such a no-name sect calling them a rising power appeared, it could only mean of the two this. It is either just hot air or a front.

That is what the Flying Daggers ought to confirm now as they arrive at the Butterberry forest. Is it really just hot air or is there something more to it?

While the so-called pilgrims are still busy with their indecision, the Flying Daggers have long entered the Butterberry forest. There is nothing noteworthy of it other than the increased population of 3rd stage beasts.

Though they are of the same cultivation ranks, the 3rd stage beasts in the Butterberry forests are still no match to the Flying Daggers. It's because the members of the Flying Daggers all possessed incredible martial arts and treasures! A meager best can never hope to match them.

"Captain, other than the beasts' population unnaturally rising with their cultivation levels, everything is normal…" Sui Yang's vice-captain reported to him. That much is obvious to Sui Yang's eyes.

"You are right… Moreover, this rise in beast population in this area might've been just the beasts migrating… However, we cannot remove the possibility that the rising number of beasts here is on purpose…"

"To control so many demonic beasts!? That's impossible!"

"Everything is possible. There could be a suddenly strong beast in another area causing them to migrate. Or maybe this area's population got so thinner, that other weaker beasts from another area found escape here… There could be many reasons…"

The Flying Daggers continued to move forward eager to be done with already on this mission.

Suddenly, one of Sui Yang's subordinates called to him.

"Captain… u-uummm…"

"What is it?"

"A bunny assassinated one of our own…"

"…"

Sui Yang thought he heard wrong so he asked.

"Come again?"

"It was so fast, I didn't see it coming… It was definitely a bunny, captain. It swooped in, and the next thing I know, my comrade is already dead! You should ask him, he saw it too!"

Sui Yang's subordinate pointed to another subordinate.

"Why are you dragging me into this?"

"You saw it, right!? It was you who yelped— agh? A rat or something!"

"All I saw was a white blur!"

Sui Yang was exasperated with these two buffoons, so raising his qi, he reprimanded them. "ENOUGH! If you have time to dawdle, then why don't you just focus, huh?"

The two immediately fall to silence, however, disturbing the silence is the panicking voice of the Flying Daggers' vice-captain. "Captain! Captain!" He shouted.

"What is it this time?"

"I was leading a team west, but suddenly we got ambushed. All sorts of traps sprung up one by one, and then a rabbit jumped on us. He got two of ours!"

"…"

"Yes, captain, you heard it right, it was a rabbit!"

What is this insanity!? Sui Yang is in disbelief, but the more his vice-captain emphasized the rabbit, the more Sui Yang got annoyed.

"You know what? Let's just ignore whatever this rabbit was… Let's just regroup and focus on piercing this forest so that we can reach the Desolate Mountain."

Sui Yang is not dumb enough to stretch his forces thin and engage whatever this white rabbit was in guerilla warfare. He is a spy and not a soldier. While the idea of saving face and revenge seems reasonable, Sui Yang is not someone who is easily swayed by his emotions.

Jumping from tree to tree, the Flying Daggers continued to move forward with Sui Yang in the lead. Suddenly, Sui Yang felt something amiss as he stepped on the next tree branch. Meeting his somewhat accurate expectation, the tree branch breaks off and he starts falling.

The next thing he knew is that a white rabbit with a fork comes descending at him with luminous white light! It felt sacred yet dreary at the same time… Well… To Sui Yang's defense, it was one ridiculous and murderous bunny.

Throwing several daggers at the rabbit, Sui Yang acrobatically changed his stance midair, successfully dodging the rabbit's ambush. However, the bunny is not done yet. In Sui Yang's flank is a freaking tree log swinging in his direction.

"Ugh…" It was as if some cruel fate, the tree log just has to land on that one important place of reproduction. "My eggnog…" He cried…

Lying flat on the ground, his subordinates surrounded him in a circle.

"Leader, we will protect you!"

"Leader, how are you!"

"Leader, does it hurt?"

"Leader, do you want me to massage it?"

"Who was that?" The vice-captain frowned at the rather sensitive words.

Sui Yang has no time to pay attention to his subordinates' antics as he was really hurting. Now, it has become personal. Sui Yang has this resolve to inflict revenge on that demonic creature.

"All of you, proceed with caution…" Sui Yang ordered his subordinates to move forward again. This time, Sui Yang waited in the back.

At first, he was confident of responding to any traps, but the double trap that the rabbit used on him left quite a stigma on his mind. He won't be falling on the same trick twice again.

That is a different story with new tricks though.

Sui Yang fell into a pit trap and under it are all sorts of manure. He came out from it still stinking. It is a mystery as to how even the rabbit came with this trap. His subordinates fearfully distanced themselves from him.

After that, more ridiculous traps kept on springing up… And the victim seemed to be always the same person— Sui Yang.

Spike Trap, Dart Trap, another Log Trap but with a twist, another Pit Trap, and again with a twist. A combination of two traps, sometimes three traps… "Fucking hell! Why is it always me? You know what? I resign!"

That day, the handsome leader of the Flying Daggers resigned and left the Flying Daggers squad for themselves… Sui Yang is not seen again…

"Guys, who want to avenge their fallen brothers?" The vice-captain asked his teammates.

No one raised their hands.

"Should we go home?" The vice-captain asked.

All of them raised their hands.

"It is unanimous then…"

That is how the Flying Daggers returned home carrying the news of the White Yaksha who felled three of their members, and their leader. Of course, Sui Yang dying was a lie. The Flying Daggers are kind enough to leave Sui Yang for himself. Being marked AWOL won't be a nice experience for their suffering leader after all.

Meanwhile, Sui Yang is already in the Sandwyrm desert. He has this enlightened look on his face. "The path to Buddhism is one filled with thorns…" He doesn't remember when he started believing in Buddha, and he might as well admit that this is his coping mechanism acting up.

But Sui Yang is a prideful man.

Walking on his barefoot, the handsome Sui Yang headed to Azuon Empire to find closure to his suffering. He strongly believed that Buddha is showing him the way, and as such, he will walk it.

The fact he isn't meeting any bandits told him that this is the right path.

When he felt thirsty, it suddenly rained. When he got injured, he met a kind saint who healed his wounds. When he felt hungry, he suddenly met with a caravan that offered him free food and a free ride.

If this is not divine intervention, then what is?

"I am lucky…" He whispered to himself, even forgetting the horrible things he experienced in Butterberry forest.

"Yes, you are lucky…" The kind caravan leader commented. He proceeded on telling the story of how such luck came together. "It is a golden age for travelers here in the Sandwyrm desert. For merchants like us, this is a golden opportunity! It is all thanks to the Bloody Asura Monk who liberated this place from the 8 mountain kings and the bandit king! It was incredible. Blood dyed the sands as the monk visited the sandy and Rocky Mountains one by one! The monk must be sent by the heavens to get rid of the evil of the world!"

Sui Yang felt a certain magnetism to this story… For that, a new resolve awakened in his heart. He must meet this monk!
