Chương 20: Istanbul, Jalil in search

Istanbul greeted him with a gold cool autumn. Byzantinism, despite the fact that Constantinople had already become Ottoman for half a century, was visible from all corners. Rogues Greeks on every corner. There was a discussion in all seriousness about how many bunchuzh Pashas should sign this or that document. The gray-haired elders were ready to grab each other's beards.

Well, as in the search, it was not possible to find Bernard right away.

It wasn't even funny, everyone in Lady Camilla's family "knew" that her husband's business partner was certain Bernard from Istanbul. And it was this Bernard who ordered the murder of Lady Camilla's husband, but Bernard himself could not be found in Istanbul, as if he had never existed.

Jalil met with some of his old friends, none of them knew any Bernard. Plucking up the impudence, he even visited some of Lady Camilla's own acquaintances, met with a cold reception, but was unable to find out anything.

Well, don't really go back to Bakhchisarai to ask Lady Camilla about Bernard more! Who the hell is that damn Bernard? And what business did he have with Lady Camilla's husband? Most likely slave trade, but no one knew for sure.

There was nothing left to do except find Irene, find Bernard through her, and then hang them both.

And then Jalil encountered another problem; they knew something about her, but no one knew where she lived.

Having settled in a small inn, Jalil began a long search activity - he hired the Greek Yannis, who stated that he had connections with local swindlers, during the day he drank wine and slept, and in evenings, he met with Yannis and gave him more money to continue the search. His counting was simple, either Yannis would find Irene, or the Greek crooks would hand him over to Irene and then Irene would show up at his inn to... well, he was ready for that.

Sometimes Jalil would get out and walk around the rich neighborhoods on the banks of the Bosphorus. He went into taverns and listened to the conversations of visitors. Sometimes they looked at him sideways, seeing him as a stranger. Sometimes they wanted to beat him for it. In this case, he began to ask questions about how they related to the Sultan, to the foreign and domestic policies of the empire. Everyone immediately mistook him for a police earpiece and walked away. It always works flawlessly.

"Well, sir, rejoice! Praise the gods, we found a home for this snake, not worthy to crawl on our sacred land." Yannis said at the next evening meeting while counting the final award.

And the next evening, Jalil went to the Kadıköy area to look at the villa in which, according to the information provided, Irene lived. To Jalil's surprise, the villa was not rich (he imagined a luxurious palace overlooking the Bosphorus) and even quite modest.

It was damp and disgusting. The cyclone brought wet snow. Jalil was chilled. In the houses around obviously that the fireplaces were lit, apparently it was warm, dry and cozy there.

"Crap! What the hell!" Jalil thought and checked the dagger in his bosom. "It's time to visit our adventure seeker."
