Chapter 263: The Endless Void
It felt like she was floating in a pool. Everything was dark and silent.
"Where am I?" she asked but of course, there was no one to answer her in this place.
"Did I die?...again?" That was the most logical conclusion that Vivi could reach at this point.
She did not recall exactly how it felt to die the last time.
But she did remember being in a very dark place at some point.
She tried to recall… something. What was the last thing that happened to her?
"Right…I was fighting Kizaru. He did something and there was this flash of light. I couldn't see anything…everything started to hurt after that. I felt like I was being burned alive, much worse than my time on that damn island. It was insufferable …and then… that's it."
So that was what happened then. She failed...she wasn't strong enough and as a result, she was killed by that Admiral.
"That sucks."
In the end, she had only been a side character with no importance.
With her death, the World government should relax a bit on going after the Strawhats.
Luffy's journey will continue without her. He will become the King of Pirates and everyone will be happy.
"That's not fair though…I wanted to be there too…"
She had always known there was a risk of dying on this journey.
The moment she entered this world, it stopped being a world of fantasy for her and had become the real world.
And in the real world, anyone can die at any time. She made her decision to join the Strawhats with this in mind.
That was the main reason she had been so ruthless with her enemies.
Showing them kindness and allowing them to live another day would mean they would have another chance to hurt or kill her and those she cared about.
That was something she was not willing to gamble with.
Kind of ironic she ended up being killed by an enemy who survived a fight against her.
"Just proved my point I guess…" She lamented.
After a while of being in this place. She started to lose her sense of time.
Vivi could not tell if she had been floating here for a few hours or a few days.
Even though she could feel herself floating, she couldn't feel anything else.
She wasn't even sure if this was water or something else.
She was unable to see or hear anything either.
Did she even have a body or something resembling a body? or was she just a soul floating around in an endless void?
The mere thought of being like this for all eternity terrified her.
And it made her miss he friends even more.
"And Nami…I miss you more than the rest…"
What would their future together have been like?
They could have retired from their pirate life after Luffy became the King.
Maybe they could have gone to live in the East Blue, on her home island.
Build a small house next to the tangerine farm.
"Okay…this is depressing. Let's think about something else…like…what the heck is that?!"
A small light appeared all of a sudden and pierced the darkness like a beacon that called for her.
She moved towards it, not very sure how. Was she flying, running, or swimming?.
It didn't matter to her as long as it got the job done.
As she approached, she felt a great sense of familiarity with this light. She had seen it before.
It was spherical in shape and had a bluish tint to it.
Her senses started to come back to her as she approached the light.
She was able to hear something. It was like a buzzing sound.
Vivi also started to feel something. She could feel she had a body now. Or at least something that looked like a physical body to her.
She could see her own hands and legs. Her long blue hair moved around in an almost weightless manner like she was floating in space.
She also felt warmth coming from the light. It got more intense as she approached but it never hurt her or even made her uncomfortable.
On the contrary. She felt better the closer she got.
Eventually, she reached the place where the sphere of light was floating.
Her hand extended and touched its surface.
"Ah…I knew it was familiar…"
The warm sensation washed over her, comforting her in the process.
This light was her soul, but also the source of her abilities. Both, the God fruit and Devil fruit were fused together to create this.
It was reassuring to know that at least, part of her still existed in some way. She wasn't completely gone.
As if reading her feelings, the ball of light reacted and became brighter.
The buzzing sound from before became clearer.
"Waves?..."
The sounds were starting to resemble the sound of waves crashing against each other.
Sounds she was very familiar with after spending such a long time in the sea.
"That's right, I'm hearing the sea!, but why?"
She then started to catch different sounds. She could now hear people.
She could not determine what they were saying as the voices felt very distant but many of them were screaming.
"What's going on?"
She finally heard a familiar voice.
"Oi Vivi!, this Mingo guy is mine, I want to be the one that kicks his a-"
"Luffy?!" Vivi exclaimed.
She could swear that was Luffy's voice a moment ago.
"What the hell?!"
She heard him again. Followed by sounds of a loud commotion. Maybe a fight.
"What is happening to me?!" Vivi shouted in frustration.
