Chapter 182: Caribou's Fate
"I told you we needed a week to get the money. That was three days ago!" She exclaimed.
"We never agreed to that. Now…give us everything you have and we will leave you in peace" Caribou sent the threat with his usual smile.
"Everything we have?" Asked the old mermaid with dread.
"How are going to live then?"
"Does it look like we care, old hag?" Said one of the crew members.
"If you don't obey…" Caribou looked at the young mermaid.
"I'll let my brother have some fun with the one behind you…your granddaughter, right?"
"Yes!, can I?" Said Coribou with excitement before giving Bell a lustful glance.
"I always wanted to play with a mermaid."
The old lady stood properly in front of Bell.
"Don't you dare to touch her!."
"Do you want us to teach this hag a lesson, Captain?" Asked one of the men.
"Yeah and can we have some fun with the hot mermaid after Coribou is done?" Asked another.
The door of the house slammed open, taking everyone by surprise.
"Okay, you guys are getting gross now…" Vivi went outside and looked at the small group of pirates with disgust.
"Who that?"
"That chick is hot!"
The pirates shouted.
"Wait, I know her…" Said Caribou.
Vivi did not have the patience to play around with this type of opponent, she extended the fingers on her left hand, turned them into ice fragments, and shoot them forward like bullets, aiming at the heads of the three pirates.
Shooting this way was a lot weaker and slower than using a weapon construct but against weak opponents was more than enough.
The three men were around the level of the average marine recruit and did not even see the attack coming. Their heads were pierced by the ice fragments, killing them instantly.
They all saw in shock as the three men fell to the floor.
"Nooo!" Screamed Coribu.
"What did you do?!"
His face contorted in rage. He took hold of the giant shovel he always carries on his back and ran to Vivi, ready to strike her down.
"Stop!" Commanded his brother Caribu, but the other was in no condition to listen.
Vivi released a big mass of water that encased Coribu completely while lifting him in the air and suffocating him at the same time.
"How weak, you can't even use a bit of armament haki? How did you hope to survive in 'New World' like that?" Vivi was not expecting much from those guys but they were still disappointing nonetheless.
She looked at Coribu who seem unable to free himself from the water prison he was in and sighed.
The truth was that the only one dangerous in that crew was their Captain Caribou with his swamp logia, and the only reason their bounties were so high was for the brutality of their crimes, not because of their individual strength.
Caribu decided to act, he put his hands on the ground and created a swamp that quickly beneath Vivi.
The two mermaids hurried out of the way as fast as they could, not wanting to be involved in the fight.
She changed her other arm into water and sent a downward blast that pushed away all the mud from the swamp.
"It seems to me that water is a bad match for your devil fruit" Vivi commented casually, not looking the least worried since she already knew that Caribou was capable of.
"By the way, your brother is very resilient but I doubt he can remain underwater much longer.
Caribou grit his teeth. In a desperate attempt, he tried to fill the area with his swamp and swallow everything, including his brother, inside.
To this futile attempt, Vivi merely jumped into the air and stood floating a good distance away from the swamp.
The water prison that was trapping Coribu also floated in the air as she didn't need direct contact to command her own water.
She then created a clone and sent it charging at Caribou.
This one smiled.
"Getting close to me is a bad idea!"
A mass of mud rose from the ground, completely surrounding the clone.
"Absborb!"
"Yes, I did know that, let's try this one, model 8…"
The clone lost its shape and transformed into a sphere of water before it started to reduce its size more and more until it had become a crystalline object, no bigger than a tennis ball.
The object was then absorbed inside Caribou. But before this one could smile in satisfaction at his triumph, something happened.
"Blast grenade" Vivi called.
They all heard a loud noise and Caribou fell to the ground. He then spat mouth full of blood.
This type of bomb was one of the easiest things for her to create since the mechanism was ridiculously simple. Comprising the water into a tiny ice object and then releasing the hold, allowing the water to recover its original size while encase in an ice container creates an immense amount of pressure. The pressure was many times higher than what one made with gunpowder, a so was the force of the resulting explosion.
Wounds started to open all over Caribou's body and blood poured out.
"Hurts doesn't it?" Vivi looked at Caribou with a hard cold gaze.
"M-Mercy…pleace…" Caribou begged with difficulty.
He recalled his swamp back and stood on the floor, trying to use his ability to close his wounds.
"Spare me and my brother, well serve you well, I swear!"
Vivi frowned after hearing that.
Her observation haki told her more than just the location of people, she could also use it to measure their level of strength and their intentions.
She had actually planned on using Caribou for a while, his ability to store things alone, made him very useful.
But her haki was telling her that this man had no intention of keeping his word.
He was lying through his teeth, the only thing on his mind was to find a way to make her pay. To kill her and all who were important to her.
'Not worth the risk…' She concluded.
Vivi approached the wounded Caribou and knelt before him.
She gently placed her hands on his cheeks.
"Will you truly serve me and be loyal only to me?" She asked gently.
"Yes!" Caribou hurried to answer.
The ball of water that was holding Coribou opened, releasing the big man, who fell to the ground.
She saw Cabibou breathing in relief, this was only a momentary satisfaction.
The water above Coribou did not move away, instead, it transformed into a long sharp piece of ice that immediately descended upon the in-mobile Coribou, separating his head from the rest of his big body
"Noo!" Caribou tried to move away only to find that he was unable to move his head away from Vivi's grasp.
It was then that he noticed how dark her hands had become, they almost looked to be made of coal.
Vivi's eyes shone with pure white light.
"I don't believe you..."
She said before using her hands to crush Caribou's skull and destroy his brain, preventing any type of regeneration.
A.N: A bit of a dark ending for Caribou. My initial plan was to keep him with Vivi to serve as a sort of temporary assistant and someone who could react to her fights.
But before writing this chapter I decided to read the Wiki page for him and his brother to refresh my memory.
After reading that and gaining a better understanding of the character, I realized that it was not going to work.
Vivi would be able to tell his true intentions and she is not the type that would tolerate having a threat to her friends on board.
Also, yes, she can use armament haki. Only to a very basic level for now.
