Chapter 4
Renn looked out the cockpits view port in wonder. He'd seen space before, he'd lived on an asteroid after all, but there was something different about watching it from the pilot's seat of a ship.
"You know there isn't much to see that's different from back home," Sapphires disembodied voice spoke out from the cockpit's speakers.
"Yeah, I know, but it just feels different. It's like I'm seeing it for the first time again." Renn answered her, he knew in the scheme of things they were still pretty close to their asteroid home, but he felt like they had taken a big step into the unknown.
"That's nice," Sapphire said after thinking for a moment, before letting him know the true reason she interrupted his stargazing. "Alpha's looking for you, he says he's got you a surprise."
"Okay, tell him I'm on my way," Renn said with a smile.

Renn Found Alpha in the ships conference room, standing next to a medium sized rectangular box.
"Hey Alpha, Sapphire said you wanted to see me," Renn waved as he walked up to Alpha.
"Hello little one, yes I have a gift for you," Alpha said as he gestured to the box behind him.
Renn excitedly opened the box then stared in wonder at its contents.
"As you have yet to complete your training you can not yet forge your own armour. Plus, with your rate of growth you would soon outgrow it anyway. But we wanted you to have some form of protection so created this myself with Bolt and tinkers help of course." Alpha explained as Renn continued to stare open mouthed at the suit of armour inside the box.
After a moment Alpha grew a bit awkward and shuffled slightly before speaking, "if it is not to your liking I could have it modif….." he was cut off mid-sentence when Renn hugged him tightly.
"I love it, its amazing!" Renn filled with joy exclaimed hugging Alpha tighter. Alpha grew more awkward and for what seemed like the millionth time since he had started raising Renn silently cursed his original programmers for focusing mainly on giving him the skills kill things in new and creative ways instead of giving him more child rearing skills.
Luckily, he was saved from having to come up with a response as Renn had run back to his cabin to change into his new armour.
Alpha stood by the holo-table in the middle of the conference room waiting for Renn to return while pretending he didn't have a warm happy felling going through his circuits.
"Aww he liked your gift, bet that made you happy" Sapphires avatar appeared on the holo-table next to him, but he ignored her and continued ignoring the fact that she had burst out laughing.
Alpha just focused on Renns happy face when he saw the armour and wondered what else he could give him to make him that happy. 'Maybe I should get him a blaster next' Alpha thought.

Renn admired the helmet in his hands, while it wasn't close to being as grand as one a full-fledged warrior of House Dredd would wear it was still very impressive.
For a Warrior of house Dredd, the most important tool was their armour, and the most important part of their armour was their helmet. Their Helmet would not only provide protection it would also be filled with crucial features that would help the warrior on the battlefield. From secure uncrackable comms, visual sensers that allowed the warrior the see perfectly in virtually all conditions, audio enhancers that allowed for detection of even slight sounds but also to dampen harmful ones such as explosions to prevent hearing damage, threat analysis from an in built A.I. and so much more.
The rest of the armour would have lots of inbuilt tools and hidden weapons as well as offering a staggering amount of protection from virtually all forms of weapons, including some form of protection against lightsabers.
A Warrior of house Dredd had to assist in the forging of their armour and were only allowed to do so when they had completed their training and it was seen as the final test to becoming a warrior of the clan.
As such Renn was a long way off forging his own but the amour he currently wore would do in the meantime. Wearing it made him feel like he was on his way to being a proper warrior, until he walked back into the conference room and realised, he was still about two feet shorter that Alpha.
But still he could feel that one day he would be strong enough to protect his family from any danger they might come across.
