Chương 13: chapter 13

This person had a somewhat raspy sound to his voice. Immediately after his voice had been heard, Marsilio's attention was drawn to Eric as well.

"Yes."

Eric nodded and then became extremely cautious immediately after.

He was well aware that the examination he had anticipated was on its way.

"Come with me."

The man's statements were not in any way ridiculous. He didn't even bother to look back as he left the room and went straight to the door.

Eric responded with a "Yes" and then followed the other person.

One of them was in front of the other, and the other was following closely behind. Nobody talked while we were travelling. They had been walking for almost three minutes at this point.

They entered another room. It was fairly large. He noticed a lot of paper strewn around, in addition to some things that had a distinctive appearance and were releasing a certain amount of magical energy.

"Welcome to my research facility!"

"In addition, I would like to extend my congratulations on officially joining the faction," After finishing his sentence, the man casually waved his right hand after raising it to his mouth.

"Let me introduce myself."

"I am the [Hero faction's] sub-leader."

"You can call me Georg. I'm the descendant of Johann Georg Faust and the wielder of a Longinus-class sacred gear."

"Whether it's [the Hero faction] or by age, I'm your senior."

"But of course, I'm not a huge fan of being overly formal, so feel free to address me as Commander Georg!"

Eric's eyes couldn't help but twitch slightly as he listened to this, but he kept his composure throughout the entire conversation.

Georg somberly conveyed his thoughts.

The tone of his voice was not as harsh as the expression on his face. There was still a trace of friendliness. Maybe it was the prestige that came with holding such a high position for such a long period.

Maybe it was the prestige that came with holding such a high position for such a long period. Or in other words, arrogance.

"Commander Georg!"

Eric shouted right away.

It was quite evident to him that the individual standing in front of him was his immediate superior.

Eric evaluated Georg in every aspect, from head to toe. This individual appeared to be more than 20 years old. Both his hair and his eyebrows were black.

The only thing that saved him from having an otherwise unremarkable appearance were the spectacles he wore, which gave him an air of mystery and matched the sharpness of his cheekbones.

But the man he possessed caused Eric's eyes to slightly widen in surprise. He possesses the most mana that he has ever seen in a human, and this includes the knowledge of many people that he gained from reading the memories of other people.

"I'm sure you're quite inquisitive about the reason I brought you here, aren't you?" Georg stated.

"I would be assigned a task that I will have to complete," Eric said.

"Oh?"

For a brief moment, Georg was taken aback. He was caught off guard by Eric's response in this manner. This was new, but in a way that is in line with his expectations.

On the other hand, this piqued his interest somewhat.

"Why do you believe that; you have a task to complete?" He couldn't help but be curious about it. " It could be anything, especially if you are meeting me, the sub-leader of the hero faction."

"I'm not sure if it was an intuition, but I'm eager to serve the faction for the betterment of humanity." Eric exhibited the behaviour of a brainless mob.

Eric is not a fool; he is aware that his position has been elevated from that of an intern to that of a member, which means that he will simultaneously have more flexibility and be given some more challenging tasks going forward.

From now on he must be careful otherwise he could mess up his persona as a mob, to remain a mob one must comprehend the mob concept to stay a good mob until the end.

It's a common misperception that being in a mob equates to being weak. Eric might rather define "mob" as the state of being unknown to the primary variables in a plot or as the state of being uninvolved with the plot; nevertheless, simply because someone is uninvolved with the plot does not mean that they are weak.

A mob can certainly be weak, but it does not imply that a mob has to be weak.

Eric believes that rather than just being average, a person must have above-average qualities in several areas if they want to stay a mob in the Khaos Brigade until the end.

Because if you continue to be average, you will eventually wind yourself up as cannon fodder, which significantly increases the likelihood that you will become involved in something that you do not wish to be involved in.

Eric is under the impression that he needs to demonstrate higher levels of cognitive and physical ability than the average person, even though he does not especially excel in any one area.

He will therefore need to demonstrate some intelligence and take the work seriously enough to earn the required praise. Eric is aware of the fact that there are instances when it is best to come forward and take advantage of a chance rather than hide.

"Good! You have the "will of humanity" within you," Georg said, his eyes brightening slightly.

This boy standing in front of him appeared to be typical and unremarkable. He didn't have much time to reflect on what had happened. Eric didn't appear to be clever at all

But...

There's potential there, humanity as a whole is weak, and Georg doesn't care about Eric's physical attributes. Georg, in contrast to many of the brute heads, is aware of the fact that humans are not meant to engage in physical combat with supernatural races because they are physiologically incapable of doing so.

So their only option is to use the supernatural force; Magic, to fight. Because of this, Georg has decided to train to become the most powerful magician in his faction so he can defeat their enemies.

Magic is the only way to fight for humans according to Georg.

When Georg looked at Eric, he was able to pick up on a minuscule amount of mana that existed within him. Although this amount of mana is even lower than what low-class beings would have, the youngster in front of Georg does have some potential.

Georg couldn't help but nod when that potential was combined with a rare type of sacred gear. He can see this boy growing into a pretty powerful wizard and possibly joining their core team.

However, that is a long way off in the future; as of right now, this boy is merely worthy but not yet ready. Before reaching such levels, he has a lot of ground to cover first.

"From now on! You will be working with me sometimes."

"I am familiar with your sacred gear as well as your current state of health. I am aware that you do not possess the ability to fight either, which is why your overall evaluation is extremely poor; nonetheless, you should not be concerned about this."

"Since you have a rare type of sacred gear, I'm assigned as your instructor to teach you so that you can develop it further. I will also instruct you on the fundamentals of elemental and defensive magic, both of which will bolster your offensive capabilities in various precarious situations."

"And your primary position and job in the faction are those of a senior medic; you will be responsible for healing those who have faced severe casualties in the battles; because your position is that of a senior medic, you will also have the position of a senior member in our faction rather than a newbie."

After taking a short pause, Georg gave Eric a dramatic gaze before continuing.

"Logically speaking..."

"You are not eligible for this kind of post because you are a newcomer; yet, due to the sacred gear you have and the endorsement from Marsilio, you have been promoted to this position. Are you getting what I'm trying to say?"

The expression on Georg's face changed suddenly.

He looked at Eric intently, waiting for some kind of reaction or reaction from the expression that was on his face. Eric was staring back at him.

"Understood."

Eric nodded. His facial expression remained the same, but I could see that he was quietly heaving a sigh of relief inside of him.

This was better than what he expected, the position of senior medic. Isn't that enough prestige for him to order around a little while he's here?

That's great!

As time goes on, he can steadily improve his strength.

Eric did not want to be fast, he only wanted to be steady in his growth.

Because of this, he preferred to sit idle and wait in the dorm room rather than engage in any form of physical exercise.

Taking things slowly but steadily, one baby step at a time Even if he did not take a step ahead, he would not risk making a mistake by taking a step in the wrong direction. This is exactly what Eric is pondering at the moment.

He would prefer to remain stagnant in his abilities rather than risk making errors that could put him in jeopardy.

Though Eric did support the notion of taking risks somewhat. However, it has to be reasonable to some extent, for him to consider taking it.

"Very well!"

Georg's face broke into a smile, but it was an awkward one, to say the least. Georg moved closer to the table, opened a drawer in the far corner of the room, and removed an ancient, dusty leather book from the drawer.

The only thing he was able to make out on the front of the book was the title, even though I had an extremely aged appearance and some bizarre symbols had been drawn on it.

(From zero to hero in elemental magic.)

Seriously!?

"This contains the basics of elemental magic; it was something I used in my younger days and contains some of my notes regarding the spells and some pointers to ease the calculation of the spell; normally all members are issued with a standard copy of this book, but I'm handing my copy to you since it's no longer useful to me," Georg said as he passed the book to Eric. I hope you learn something from it!

"I will try my best, commander."

Georg stated calmly, "Good, go and practise it; magic is not easy to learn, especially as humans; you take advantage of this idle time; from now on, you don't have to report to Marsilio; you have been assigned a room in the medical sector at HQ, so you should go there, and you only need to report when you have been called; otherwise, you are not required," and Eric bowed to him and left.

In his excitement, Eric couldn't help but flash a grin as he walked.

This was the moment he had been anticipating, right before receiving the official order. He had never dared to train!

To begin with, he was concerned that all of his training would render him incapable of completing his primary task, which required him to read memories.

Not only would it result in a loss for him personally, but it would also have an impact on Marsilio's opinion of him.

Aside from that, he got the [Alpha Human Physiology] the first time he read memory.

His physical fitness had improved dramatically, and he was no longer in a weak state. During training, he was prone to reveal something by accident.

This could cause conflict and controversy that is completely unneeded. Irrespective of the nature of the thing in question. It would not be to his advantage in the least!

As a newcomer, he had to be cautious.

He would never leave anything behind that may be deemed gossip.

Now that he had gotten the suggestion from the commander to train, he can begin his training.

Eric was naturally very happy to accept it with gratitude.

It was finally time to test out his skills.

*****

A/N: There is still too much confusion there; people are still commenting that I'm copying "Reborn as an Anbu Torturer." Despite the fact that I have already mentioned it explicitly and repeatedly in both my review and the sypnosis. Yes, I did copy from that fic, but not the story itself, but the general plotline and, to some extent, the personality of the main character. (My MC is a bit different compared to the MC of that fanfic since you can already see the personality differences in this chapter; my MC will be a bit willing to take risks and expose himself to a few select individuals and will be willing to travel around the world of DxD. I will give you a small spoiler since MC has the transformation technique he will use a different identity than one OP Guy! while get goes on his adventure.)

One more small spoiler. MC will meet some of the main characters in the next few chapters, and he will make some major decisions there.
