Chương 3: Meeting The Devil 3

She sighed inwardly, what did she expect from the devil himself? "We don't have that much now. Please give us some time to raise the money,'' Whitney replied in a pitiful voice.

She hoped against hope that he agreed, even if she knew it was next to impossible. The man was known for showing no mercy. Even if she could not blame her father for taking this man's money, she still felt he killed the entire house to save one person.

Now that he died without paying the debt, if none of them was out, who would take care of their baby brother?

"Three months," Kevin replied when he heard her ask for time. He knew she could not raise that money in such a short time. Except she sold her body, but who cares? At least she will be miserable for doing that, and he would have gotten what he wanted. 'His money.'

"Excuse me?" Whitney asked, confused. She felt that her ability to understand human language had been consumed by fear. What did he mean by three months?

"You have three months to pay back your debts," His subordinate answered, knowing his boss would not repeat himself. Anybody seeing the boss giving the lady time to pay up may think that the boss is showing mercy, but Seb, his personal assistant, knows that is not the case.

His boss was out for blood, and he will get it at all costs. No one steps on the lion's tail and escapes unharmed

"But three months is not enough for me to get such a huge amount," Whitney could not help but complain. She knew it was lucky even to consider giving her time to pay off. Yet, this was little to nothing. Even five years was too little. "This man was dreadful. No wonder nobody can appreciate his gorgeous looks," she thought to herself.

Kevin looked at her quietly. He had no plans to say something else. It was never his style to visit the sin of the father on the children, but he could not let Mr warmer go. After all, if there is the first, there would be a second, third and uncountable similar situation. He had to use a scapegoat for warning.

"Miss, three months is all you get. The boss is already very generous," Seb replied. He did not feel sorry for the two ladies. If they wanted to blame anyone, they should blame their selfish father.

Whitney looked at the man with disbelief. How could he call this generous? Whitney was about to curse the man when she bit her tongue to stop herself. For a person who never shows mercy, he was really generous to her. At least during these three months, she could settle her siblings, so the whole household would not be destroyed.

"Take them away," Kevin instructed. "And remember, if you don't get my money in three months, one of you beautiful ladies will work in my nightclub,' there was a pause. " it would take too long a time, i will make it both," Whitney heard Kevin's voice as they were lead out of the room. The warm charm seemed to be back, but Whitney could no longer appreciate it.

Whitney froze for a few seconds before being pushed out of the room. She could not make up that money in that amount of time, even if she sold herself.

The two of them were thrown out of the club with no means to get back home. Although this Club 24 was the closest to their neighbourhood, it would still take a few hours to walk on foot. The two of them had no money to take a bus. If they dared to call a cab, they would be spending so much money.

"I am tired," Gracey acted spoiled at this moment.

Whitney looked at her sister with disappointment. She was already sixteen and would soon graduate from high school. So she was not a child and should understand the situation of things at the moment. "Would you like to return to club 24? I heard they have rooms for short lent," Whitney teased.

When Grace heard her sister's comment, she immediately straightened her back. The sun was not so hot anyway. How could she not know what would become of her if she stepped back into the club? Although she was considered a minor, the men at club 24 did not mind. "Walking is a form of exercise," she stopped complaining.

Whitney chuckled when she saw her sister acting as a quick wit. " slow down, you might fall," Whitney increased her pace.

The two sisters did not dare to take the shortcut root; one, Kevin Smart, was enough. They did not dare to take chances with safety. Along the way, Gracey opened her mouth many times to ask her sister how she intended to raise the money, but each time she would swallow back the question.

When Whitney got home with Grace, it was already dinner time. Many of their neighbours were surprised to see them return safe and sound. They wanted to ask different questions, but they also did not dare. No one wanted to be involved on the wrong side of the Devil.

"Your brother is here with me," one of their neighbours who stay next door came out.

Whitney turned to Vivian, "Thank you," she focused a smiled. She knew this Vivian was a gossip queen, her children were grown up, and she retired from working. So all she did was gossip. Even if she was a gossiper, she was still kind enough to watch their brother after they were taken away, so Whitney was sincere when she thanked her.

It was just that her smile was forced because she was tired and in a bad mood. But she did not dare show it. After all, many people liked to hit others when they were down.

"Are you girls okay," Vivian dared to ask. she was an old woman, and it could be considered that she was showing care. Moreover, if she did not ask, how would she have something new to gossip about?

"We are fine; we just went for a follow-up procedure," Whitney lied with a straight face. No one in the neighbourhood had dared to target their house because they feared her father. If after his death they knew the truth, her siblings would have a hard time at the community school. Moreover, the neighbourhood was not safe, men might take advantage of her and her sister sexually, but as long as they still had the protection of the Smart cooperation, things should not be too bad.

So she told this lie to protect them temporarily. Vivian did not believe her, but she also did not dare continue asking, what if it was true? After all, if Mr Smart really wanted to hurt them, these two would not return unharmed. So many people who heard this conversation chose to believe her for the time being.

Many people from this neighbourhood also had small jobs in Smart corporations and knew that those who touched the people Kevin Smart wanted to protect would not have a good ending.

Whitney took her younger brother, and they returned to their apartment. After opening the door, she pulled her brother to sit on the only couch in the sitting room. The apartment was relatively small. There were two tiny bedrooms with a single bathroom. When their father was alive, their younger brother would share one room with their father.

After getting a job with Smart cooperation, her father had been talking about buying a house, unfortunate Grace had been sick, and most of his earnings had been used for her treatment. When her condition worsened a few months back, her father sold off a few of their excellent furniture and electronic devices.

Whitney held her little brother close and whipped away his tears. "Why are you crying?" she asked. She noticed that he had his head down since she picked him up from Vivian.

"I thought I would not see you again," he replied while hugging Whitney closer. Gracey joined them on the chair and rubbed her brother's back.

"Look, we are back," Gracey comfort him. She knew to give in to her younger brother. Even if she did not belive she would return safe, how scared would the little boy be?

"You will not leave me alone again, right?" he asked. He was not comforted one bit. He was scared that they would be taken away again.

"Of course not. Why do you feel we will leave?" Whitney asked. Her brother was still young, he should not have understood the situation so much.

"Some of the neighbours said the devil took you away, and you were never to been seen again," he answered honestly.

Whitney shakes her head. She has forgotten her neighbours have big mouths and will not even shut them. For Kelly's sake, the boy was only six, for goodness sake. "I have to find a way to change the environment," she thought; after all, even her cheap lies could not cover the people's speculations. She did not want her brother to live in fear.
