Prompt by:
It was your birthday, as usual Lauren for some reason woke up earlier than usual and dialed her mum's number so the two of you could wish you a happy birthday. Lauren might still be young but she knew you were sad that Lena hadn't been home for a month.
"Mommy! Mommy! Wake up! It's your birthday!"
Lauren said as she climbed up on the bed and began to practically jump on you. You groaned loudly at the sudden weight and slowly opened your eyes. A smile on your face the entire time.
After giving you your birthday hug and kiss, she handed you the phone and sat besides you as you both talked to Lena.
"Happy birthday, love."
Lena tells you with a smile. It had been a while since she had a chance to video call you. She missed the two of you.
The three of you talked for a while until eventually you asked Lauren to give you and Lena some privacy to talk. Once the door closes behind her, the smile disappears.
"So.. when are you going to come back?"
You asked quietly. You didn't want to ask in fear of hearing a later date but you needed to know. You missed your wife.
Lena looked at you sadly and you just knew you weren't going to like her answer.
"Another month or so. But don't worry. I promise to be at Leon's graduation." She looks down for a second and then back to you.
"I'm sorry, darling. I had meant to take a quick trip to National City but work.."
You shook your head and forced yourself to smile.
"Don't be sorry. You've been waiting for that big break for a while now, don't let my birthday stop you, alright. Besides, it's not like it's the end of the world. We can celebrate when you come back."
She nodded and gave you a smile.
The two of you continued to talk about different subjects for a while before you let her go so she could go to sleep. You weren't sure if it was a good idea to hide the fact that her being away for so long was hurting you but for the moment, you hugged her pillow and let out the tears you've been holding in.
Lauren had been listening in through the door for a while and when she stopped hearing Lena, she stepped in. Wanting to help you feel better, she went over to hug you.
"It's okay, mommy. It'll get better."
