December 13, 2017
On Wednesday, Jack and Joel were three-and-a-half weeks old, Jordan was four days old, and Josefina was three days old. The three new mothers were exhausted from nursing at all hours, among other things, but today they were getting up out of bed to spend their last day with the Legionnaires. The heroes from the future were coming over around lunchtime and staying for the rest of the day. Jamie and Jessie had been given the day off from their studies so they could spend time with the Legionnaires as well. They were ecstatic to not only get a day off in the middle of the week, but also to get some extra time with their new brothers and sisters. But they weren’t so elated by that that they weren’t sad to say goodbye to their new friends and family.
It was a bittersweet day for everyone. On the one hand, it was happy because now that Pestilence had been defeated, the Legionnaires would get to go home and see their families and return to a world that had never been decimated by the Blight. Imra could see her sister again. Garth’s homeworld would be restored. Millions of people would be alive again. But on the other hand, they had been essential in the fight against the Worldkillers, and besides that, they were just enjoyable people to be around. It would be hard and sad to say goodbye to these new loved ones indefinitely.
Life at the Danvers residence had been pure chaos for the last three days. With three out of four babies that didn’t like to go to sleep, no one was getting much rest, and that was on top of constant nursing, changing, eating, rocking and singing. Overall, the Danvers were pretty worn out. If it weren’t for all the people helping, they’d be an absolute wreck. Kara had been able to get a few weeks off from Catco so she could help out, but they also had Eliza and Alura and Lyra, and occasionally Ruby, Sam and Douglas, and of course the twins helped a lot too, but they were still required to continue their schooling (with the exception of today), so they were only allowed to help when their tutors were gone and their homework was done. The parents tried not to wake them up in the middle of the night either, but there had been a couple of times when it couldn’t be helped.
In addition to the stress of the new babies, the three mothers were experiencing a bit of postpartum depression as well, so there had been times when not only were the babies all crying, but so were all the mothers. Kara and the others tried their best to comfort them and help them out, but it would still take time for the new mothers to work through this phase of their lives. Their lack of sleep didn’t help the matter. They had very little energy in the first place, let alone enough to deal with the stress of four new babies and everything that goes with it. None of them were angry, which was perhaps one of the most concerning things to Kara. Normally, they were spunky and witty and active, but now they seemed to be more sad and confused and listless. It broke Kara’s heart. On the plus side, even with the depression, the mothers seemed to still be bonding with their children. They still seemed to get joy from the babies, and Kara called that a win.
After everyone had eaten breakfast, the family took turns taking their showers and/or getting dressed, while the others took care of the babies. Since the twins showered at night, they got dressed first and then were given primary baby duty for the next hour. They started the hour off with Maggie nursing Josefina - who they had started calling Josie - while Jamie rocked Jordan with her little binkie, and Jessie sang to the boys while she rocked them in the bassinet. Neither of the boys were sleepy, but they loved the attention from their big sister. Kara showered using a bit of super speed and joined them shortly. Alex and Lena were still in the master bathroom, and Eliza and Alura were using the guest bathrooms to shower. (Lena had designed the house to have never-ending hot water with this sort of scenario in mind.) When Maggie finished nursing, she gave the baby to Kara and then hopped into the shower as well.
Alex, Maggie, and Lena were all slow at getting ready. By the time they were finished showering and getting dressed, Jack was ready to nurse again. He fussed until Lena got him in her arms, and then he was elated. Both the boys obviously loved Lena to death, but Jack seemed to be exceptionally in love with her. He always got excited when he was in her arms, smiling and cooing and flailing around, no matter what else was going on with him.
Lena grinned at his excitement. “Hi, Jacky! Yeah, Mama’s got you. Who’s my happy boy, huh? Mommy loves you.” She got them situated on the bed and started nursing. “Is that better?” Jack let out a sigh, making Lena giggle. “You’re my hungry little man, aren’t you?” Jack nursed greedily, looking up at Lena with adoration in his eyes. This was his absolute favorite time of day. Yes, he enjoyed attention from others, but Lena was clearly the light of his life. He smiled at others, but for Lena, his whole face lit up.
Joel seemed to be insulted at the loss of his brother beside him and started fussing until Jessie picked him up and started talking to him. “Hey, sissy’s got you now. You’re OK.” After that, Joel settled down and cuddled against her. “I love you, little brother. Yes I do.” She kissed him on his little bald head, and he smiled brightly. “You’re such a good boy. Yes, you are. You’re so cute.” Joel flailed happily in her arms, grinning at her and cooing softly. Lena was his favorite, but after that, Joel seemed to prefer Jessie holding him over anyone else. But really he liked attention in general. He was a very friendly baby.
Jamie was the one holding Jordan. She had the task of rocking the infant and trying to hold the binkie in her mouth to keep her from dropping it. Jordan was still quite anti-sleeping, even more so than the boys. At least Kara could get the boys to sleep if nothing else worked, but Jordan would not be swayed by anyone if she didn’t want to be. On more than one occasion, Alex had had to take her daughter into another room because she was disturbing her infant siblings by crying. Jordan didn’t just cry because she was wet or hungry. She cried if someone wasn’t holding her, and she cried when she was sleepy, when she wanted her binky, or to be rocked, or all of the above. Of course, she wasn’t always crying. There were many bright moments with her when she was content with the world, and she showed great interest in whoever was holding her, especially Alex. That was when she would “talk” to the people around her. It was sooo adorable. Currently, Jordan was calm. She was enjoying being rocked by her big sister and sucking on her binkie while Jamie smiled and sang softly to her. Kara was pretty sure Jordan loved Jamie the most after their mother partially because of the fact that Alex and Jamie looked similar with their short dark hair, and partially because Jamie sang to her.
Meanwhile, when Josefina was done burping, Kara rocked her in her arms and hummed softly along with Jamie. Josefina sucked on her fist and didn’t take her eyes off of her Mama. She was still the quietest of all the babies. She was also the lightest eater compared to her siblings. Maggie tried to get her to nurse more, worried that she would lose too much weight if she didn’t, but Josefina refused. Every time the newborn was done nursing, she would shove her fist back in her mouth. They offered her the binkie a couple of times, but she didn’t seem to like it. Kara thought it was funny because she didn’t suck her thumb like her brothers, just the side of her hand. One thing Kara had figured out about her was that she loved to hold people’s fingers with her free hand. It was one of the few things that made the newborn flail around with excitement. The rest of the time, she would just stare at whoever was holding her, perfectly content to sit back and enjoy whatever entertainment was in front of her. Naturally, Kara chose to let the baby wrap her hand around her pinky finger. It was just too cute to see her all wiggly and happy.
Once everyone was finally ready, they all made their way downstairs. Kara and her wives occupied their usual sofa, while the twins sat on another one with their grandmothers. They had barely been sitting there for five minutes when Jordan started crying. That set off Jack, who had almost fallen asleep in Lena’s arms.
Alex checked the time. “If her diaper is clean, hand her over, and I’ll see if she’s hungry. It’s about that time.”
Jamie checked her sister’s diaper and then passed the baby to their mother. “She’s clean.”
Lena rocked Jack and made a soft shushing noise at him. “You’re OK. You’re going to have to learn to get used to this, son. You know your sister is noisy, so you’re going to have to learn to live with it.” Jack settled down mostly, but now he was fighting sleep and still being a little fussy. Lena gave him his binkie, which sometimes helped him fall asleep, and just kept rocking him.
Luckily, Joel and Josefina didn’t seem too bothered. Josefina was rarely bothered by much, and Joel was a sound sleeper once he was out, and he was currently sleeping peacefully in Jessie’s arms with his thumb in his mouth.
Jessie couldn’t be happier sitting there holding him. She and Jamie had been totally different people ever since they found out about the babies, and so far, they had been every bit as helpful as they promised they’d be. They were too obsessed to say no to doing anything that had to do with their new siblings. They loved any excuse they could have to get their hands on the newborns. They were obsessed with dressing them up in matching or coordinating outfits, and they had enough energy for ten people, so they didn’t mind being the designated rockers for any of them who needed it. Plus they changed diapers and helped around the house.
They were definitely stepping up to the plate, and Kara was proud of them. As a result, she was thinking about what kind of amazing Christmas presents she could buy for them as a partial reward for being so good. She was thinking about getting them some musical instruments and a year’s worth of lessons because they had shown interest in learning music on a few occasions. She wasn’t sure about it, though. She didn’t want to overwhelm them with things to do or take away their quality time with their baby siblings by adding a bunch of things to their to-do lists. Perhaps she would just talk to them and ask them if it was even something they still wanted to do. Maybe she could do something else for Christmas. Kara figured there was no time like the present, so she just asked them flat out, “Girls, are you still interested in getting music lessons? Or do you think that would be too much more to do?”
“I want to learn to play the drums!” Jessie responded excitedly, but softly, so as not to wake the babies.
“I was thinking about that, and I think I’d like to study under a vocal coach first,” Jamie told her. “I can learn to play an instrument later, if I want to, but that’s not as important. I want to learn how to sing like the pros.”
“Alright,” Kara smiled at her daughters. “Because you girls have been so good, and so helpful, I want to do something nice for you as a reward. Something fun. That’s the first thing that popped into my mind.”
“As long as we don’t have to take lessons every single day, I would love that,” Jessie said. “I still want to be able to spend time with the babies, and we’re going to need to get back to training soon too. I don’t want to lose my progress.”
“One or two lessons a week would be best,” Jamie agreed. “Do you think we could get Amy and Julia to teach us?”
“We can ask,” Kara nodded. “The worst they could say is no, but I bet they know people if they do. Why don’t we call them tomorrow and ask?”
“Yeah,” the twins cheered, albeit quietly. “Thank you, Mama.”
“You’re welcome, babies,” Kara smiled adoringly at them.
Joel started stirring in Jessie’s arms, putting on a grumpy face and starting to fuss. Jamie took Jack, who had finally crashed, so that Lena could try to nurse Joel. The newborn settled down as soon as Lena had him in her arms.
“Hey! Hi, my little man,” she smiled. “Are you hungry?” Once Lena got him actually eating, he started smiling up at her. “Is that better? You’re such a sweetheart. I love you so much.”
Joel kicked his feet wildly to show her his appreciation.
Lena chuckled at his antics. “You’re so cute!”
The doorbell rang, and Jessie ran to open it.
“Here,” Kara said, passing Josefina to Jessie and quickly putting Alex and Lena’s nursing covers on. They had to get the kind that allowed mother and baby to still see each other during nursing time, otherwise the babies freaked out, even Josefina who was rarely bothered by anything more than being hungry or needing a new diaper. Kara made sure the covers were on properly before the Legionnaires came in, then she turned to greet them as they came into the living room. “Hey, guys!” she cheered, giving them each as tight of a hug as they could tolerate. “Come in, have a seat!”
The Legionnaires gave hugs all around before sitting down obediently. Imra and Liin already had tears in their eyes.
“You guys!” Kara whimpered. “Don’t cry on me already.”
Imra smiled and dabbed at her eyes, “Sorry! I just can’t believe this is our last day together. I’m just going to miss you all so much!”
Kara wrapped the Saturnian up in a warm hug, now tearing up herself. “We’re going to miss you too,” she sniffled. When they pulled away from one another, Kara gave her a warm, hopefully reassuring smile.
Imra smiled appreciatively in return. “You have all been so wonderful.”
“Ah-ah!” Kara stopped her. “We don’t have to say our goodbyes just yet. Let’s just spend the day together and have fun.”
“I wish it was warm enough to swim in the pool,” Jessie lamented. “Then we could really have fun!”
Kara chuckled. “We can still have plenty of fun. What would you guys like to do? Play games? Watch a movie?”
“I don’t care what we do, I just want to hold babies until my arms fall off,” Liin quipped.
The girls giggled, and Jamie handed over her little brother. “Here’s Jacky.”
Liin AKA Jack lit up as he got his hands on the sleeping infant. “Hi, little one!” he whispered. “It’s me again, the one that’s named after you. I’m gonna hold you for a while, OK?”
Kara’s heart ached from how cute they were together. A pair of Jacks.
“Jacky’s going to be… different,” Liin informed them. “I don’t mean that in a bad way, but the path might be hard to navigate in these times, even for supportive parents like you guys.”
“Don’t worry, though,” Imra soothed. “Jacky is a good person. Actually, all of them will be, in their own ways.”
The Danvers smiled at them. “That’s great to hear,” Kara said.
“Can I hold a baby?” Imra requested.
Jessie approached her with her little sister, “This is Josie.”
Imra’s face lit up, and she held the sleeping infant close. “She’s so cute.”
“I think we should play Apples to Apples,” Jessie suggested. “It’s good for a big group, and it doesn’t get too loud.”
“Is that OK with you guys?” Kara checked.
Everyone gave their approval, and Jessie ran to grab the game.
“Pizzas will be here at noon,” Kara announced to the group. “I called them yesterday and again this morning.”
“We really like pizza,” Brainy replied. “Thank you, Kara.”
Kara grinned at him. “You’re welcome.”
The twins divvied out piles of cards, so everyone could reach some, and they started playing Apples to Apples. The Legionnaires kept the conversation going by telling Alura more about their experiences in this time period, and how it differed from theirs. And Alura entertained them with similar stories of Earth vs. Krypton.
Meanwhile, the babies frequently changed hands for nursing, burping, rocking, changing, etc. By the time the pizzas arrived, they were having a magical moment where all four babies were blissfully asleep at the same time. They knew it wouldn’t last long, so everyone let the new mothers get their food first so they could be ready when the babies woke up again.
Brainy gasped once he saw a certain pizza, “You got one with apples and olives?”
Kara chuckled. “Yep. It took some convincing, but I wanted to let you try it before you left.” The Coluan had been wanting to try apples on pizza for a while now, claiming that he thought it would taste great.
Brainy immediately grabbed a slice of the strange pizza and shoved a bite into his mouth. “Mmm!” he grinned, shoving more in his mouth. “I knew this would be delicious!”
The twins turned up their noses, but curiosity got the better of them, and they stole one small piece to try a bite of it. One after the other, they took tentative bites of the pizza slice, and before they even got a chance to really chew it up, they were grimacing and then ran to the kitchen to spit it out. “Yuck!” Jessie said when they came back. “I did not like that. You can have it!”
Kara chuckled and took a bite of the twins’ slice. She wasn’t as impolite as the kids, but after swallowing it, she shook her head. “Not a fan.”
“You like pineapple on your pizza,” Brainy pointed out with disgust. “How is that better?”
The three Kryptonians all shrugged identically. “I have no answer for that, I’m sorry,” Kara said with a smile. “You enjoy your pizza, buddy. Don’t worry about what other people think.”
Brainy nodded. “Fair enough.”
Kara piled her plate high with random varieties of slices before returning to the living room with the others. “Who’s got the most cards so far?” she asked about their game.
“I think I do,” Alex replied. “I’ve got six.”
“Nice job, baby,” Kara praised her. “Anyone have more than that?”
Everyone shook their heads no.
“Should we call it, or do you guys want to play more after we eat?” Kara wondered.
“I wanna play something else,” Jamie replied.
“Like what?” Kara asked.
Jamie shrugged. “I’m not sure. There’s too many people for most of the games.”
“We could sing karaoke!” Jessie suggested. “We can do it quietly, so the babies don’t freak out.”
“I’d like that,” Chameleon agreed. “I really like singing, and I’m sad that there isn’t karaoke in our time. We’ll have to ‘invent’ it!”
Imra nodded emphatically. “Yes! We should! We can teach ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ to the world!”
Alex and Maggie snickered.
“Do it!” Kara encouraged them with a grin. “That’s a great idea!”
The twins put the card game away and then pulled out the karaoke machine. They turned the music volume on low, and didn’t bother with the microphones. Before they even got started, Jack and Josefina woke up wanting to nurse. The twins quickly changed their diapers and gave them to their mothers before they woke Joel and Jordan up.
Jessie started the group off, singing Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me.’ It was a nice calm song that the babies seemed to enjoy whenever they sang it. When she was through, everyone clapped softly and told her she did a good job, making her beam with happiness, though she made a statement not to tell Ruby she sang that song, lest the love of her life read something into it.
Next, Jamie sang ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Moana. It was the first time she’d sung it during karaoke because she usually liked to sing faster, more upbeat songs like Katy Perry and Pink. She was a little nervous, but she was proud of her performance at the end. Again, the group applauded quietly and told her she did well. The praise made her lift her head a little higher, and she grinned beatifically.
Next, Imra of course picked a Bon Jovi song called ‘Who Says You Can’t Go Home?’ A nod to the occasion. When she was done, most of the group had tears in their eyes.
“That was beautiful,” Kara sniffled. “I think from now on, whenever I hear that song, I’m going to think of you and this moment.” She got up and gave Imra a big hug.
“Me too,” Imra sighed into the hug. “Is it weird to say I love you guys?”
“Of course not,” Kara assured her. “We love you too. All of you.”
The Danvers all agreed with her.
“Thank you guys,” Imra grinned. “Who’s next?”
“Oh, me!” Chameleon volunteered. “I’ve been practicing!” He put on the music to ‘If I Only Had a Brain’ from the Wizard of Oz, and sang along, mimicking the different voices. It was very entertaining, and everyone enjoyed it, clapping softly in encouragement.
“Mama, sing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’” Jessie begged.
“OK, baby,” Kara agreed. She started the music and sang along more softly than she normally would. It was one of her best songs, if she did say so herself, and she was proud of that. When it was over, a few people had tears in their eyes again, including her wives. She gave each of the three of them a tender kiss and sat back down with them. She also thanked the group for the gentle applause.
By now, Josefina was finished nursing, and Jamie had gotten a hold of her to burp her. Jack was almost finished eating as well, and Jessie was sitting on the arm of the couch, next to Lena, ready to snatch her little brother up as soon as she could. Lena didn’t complain, so Kara didn’t say anything about her daughter’s hovering.
Garth wanted to sing next, and of course, he also picked a Bon Jovi song. It was called ‘Always.’ His voice was in the same range as Bon Jovi’s, but Garth’s voice was quite different from the famous musician - in a really good way. He had a smooth, pleasant tenor that everyone loved to hear. In the end, he bowed to the soft applause and sat back down next to his wife who kissed him sweetly.
Now that Jack was done nursing, Kara tried to get Lena to sing something, but the new mother refused. Alex and Maggie never sang anything, so there was no point in barking up that tree. Instead, she encouraged the others to take their turns. Eliza volunteered and picked a song called ‘You Raise Me Up’ by someone named Josh Groban. Kara had never heard of it before, but she really liked the lyrics. At the end, everyone clapped with big smiles on their faces.
“Isn’t that a religious song?” Maggie asked.
Eliza turned her hand side to side. “I think it’s meant to be, but I still like it. It’s pretty.”
“It is pretty,” Maggie agreed. “Good one, Eliza.”
“Thanks, sweetie,” Eliza grinned.
Liin was just about to sing when Jordan started crying. Kara quickly changed her and gave her over to Alex, so she could nurse again, allowing Liin to sing his song. He chose ‘The Sound of Silence’ by Simon and Garfunkel. He wasn’t the greatest singer in the world, but he wasn’t the worst either. Overall he did fairly well, and everyone clapped quietly for him when he was through.
Neither Brainy nor Rokk liked to sing, so that left Alura to go next. She hadn’t had time to learn many songs yet, but the twins had sung Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ so many times and even played the original for her a few times, she thought she’d give it a try. She had a similar voice to Kara’s but a tad bit deeper, and her rendition of the song was absolutely beautiful.
Kara was very proud of her mother. “Great job, Mom,” she said with a grin.
“Thank you, my love,” Alura replied with a smile of her own.
“Can we go again, Mama?” Jamie requested.
“Go ahead,” Kara permitted.
“Yes!” Jamie cheered. “Here, Liin, take Josie.”
Liin grinned and accepted the baby. “Hi, Josie!” he greeted the newborn. “Remember me? I’m Liin. I’m kinda like your nephew. You are such a pretty girl, you know it?”
Josefina watched him with interest, sucking on her fist, as usual.
“I can’t tell if she likes me or not,” he chuckled.
“I think she kinda likes everyone,” Kara replied. “Let her hold your finger, then you’ll see how happy she can get.”
He slipped his first finger into her free hand, and she gripped it and started kicking wildly. “Aww, she likes to hold hands,” he cooed. “How cute!”
Kara grinned at him. “See? She likes you.”
Jamie pulled up her next song, and sang ‘Wide Awake’ by Katy Perry. It was another one that she’d never sang for karaoke before because it was a little slow, but she did well. Everyone gently clapped, and she sat back down.
As Jessie was just starting her next song, Joel started waking up, interrupting the moment. She stopped singing and paused the music until Lena got him settled down to nurse. When the newborn was calmed down, Jessie started her music over. She was singing ‘Go the Distance’ from Hercules. It was one of her theme songs, and she loved it. When the twins had first watched the movie a few years ago, Jessie would listen to the song on repeat so much that it drove Alex and Kara nuts. Thankfully, it had been long enough that it wasn’t annoying anymore. The group clapped for her, and she sat back down.
“Anyone else want to sing again?” Kara asked the room.
“I don’t know enough songs,” Alura replied.
“Sam here,” Imra agreed. “We haven’t really been here long enough to memorize a lot of things.”
“Fair enough,” Kara said. “We should leave the machine out for later.”
“Oh. yes, I want to hear Sam and Ruby sing before we go,” Garth told them.
Kara looked at her watch. “They won’t be here for a couple more hours. Ruby gets out of school at around 3-ish.”
“Does anyone want to play pool with me?” Jessie suggested.
“I’ll play,” Garth raised his hand.
“Me too,” Chameleon agreed.
“I wanna stay with the babies,” Jamie pouted.
“We can move in there,” Maggie offered.
“OK, then I want to play too,” Jamie said.
The group moved into the pool hall and got settled in, so those who wanted to play could. Brainy and Rokk ended up joining them, so they made two groups of three to play a round of 8-Ball. Jamie, Chameleon and Brainy played against Jessie, Garth, and Rokk. The twins were getting pretty good at the game, so even though the others weren’t that great, they stayed pretty even throughout the game.
Meanwhile, Liin and Imra stuck close to the new mothers and took turns holding the babies. They were obsessed, and the newborns all seemed to enjoy their attention. They had to keep trading off, though, because the mothers were feeling a bit possessive today. Not that they were against the Legionnaires in any way, they just didn’t feel comfortable without holding their new little ones sometimes.
Kara understood completely. She sometimes felt the same way. She was so glad that Snapper gave her this time off to be with her family. She didn’t want to leave any of them right now, especially with her wives experiencing postpartum depression. Maggie and Alex weren’t even trying to take bets on who would win the pool game. That was highly unusual. Kara kept an eye on them, but otherwise let them do whatever they wanted. She didn’t want to crowd them and make them annoyed with her. She did make her rounds to the three of them a few times to give them kisses, and they seemed to appreciate that.
The gang hung out in the pool hall for the next couple of hours. The teams were tied 2 and 2, and they were about to go for the tie-breaker when Douglas, Sam, and Ruby showed up. Lena had programmed the system to allow them full access to the house now, so they just came right in and called out to see where everyone was. Jessie went to go bring them in, so she didn’t disturb the babies by yelling. She gave Sam and Douglas hugs, then kissed Ruby hello before dragging them back to the pool hall with her. Everyone exchanged hugs before they sat down with the others. The pool players wanted to play their tie-breaker game, so they went back to that, while the three new-comers chatted about their day.
Apparently, some of the new recruits were giving Douglas a bit of trouble lately. As one of the main trainers in the facility, it was his job to know everything about the newbies and what they did all day, and some of them had been acting rather lazy. He’d dealt with it in his own way, which he kept quiet on, but lamented that Alex wasn’t there to chew their asses out. According to him, no one was as intimidating as an angry Alex Danvers, even him and all his 6’3”, 275lb muscled black man glory was nothing compared to her when someone crossed her. Much to everyone’s delight, this made Alex laugh. Then, even better, Jordan smiled for the first time, making Alex even happier, at least for a little while.
Soon they were joined by Julia, Cat and Carter, James and Lucy, Winn and Lyra, J’onn, M’rynn, and Vasquez. Now that there was a house full, people scattered around in various rooms on the ground floor, playing different games, singing, nibbling on leftover pizza, or just sitting around talking and/or drinking.
None of the kids tried to sneak off because they wanted this time with their friends from the future. At around 4:30, Eliza stole the four of them away to help make dinner. Because of Julia, they were trying to make all the sides vegan friendly, but for everyone else, Eliza was making baked ham for the main course. Dinner would be like a holiday feast tonight. The twins cut the vegetables for the salads, prepared the deviled eggs, and peeled potatoes for mashed potatoes while Carter and Ruby mixed the salads and a couple of homemade vinaigrettes and fried up some tofu for Julia. Eliza made the gravy and the casseroles while keeping an eye on the ham and the kids. Periodically, other people would wander in to chat for a bit, but Eliza wouldn’t let anyone stay too long because they all tried to steal food. By the time dinner was ready, they had a feast fit for a king.
They had to rearrange the dining room a bit to fit some extra tables in so that everyone could sit together, but they managed just fine. The room was plenty big enough for everyone to fit comfortably somewhere, and they even had room enough for the two bassinets. There were no seating assignments, so everyone just sat wherever they wanted, with the Legionnaires and the new mothers scattered randomly throughout the room.
“I want to toast to the Legionnaires,” Eliza stood up and held up her glass. You kept my family alive and safe in a very dark time, and for that I am eternally grateful. You are all wonderful people, and I’m going to miss you.” Eliza sat down to indicate that she was finished speaking.
“To the Legionnaires!” Kara practically shouted to the crowd, raising her glass in the air.
The crowd mimicked her with their glasses, “To the Legionnaires,” they all said.
Everyone drank to the toast, and they started passing food around the tables. Julia was beyond honored that they had made food with her in mind so that she could eat with them as well. Kara wasn’t too happy about the changes to the food, but she didn’t voice that feeling. She didn’t want to make anyone unhappy tonight. It didn’t taste that bad. At least Eliza knew what she was doing, and for that, she would be thankful. As far as dinners go, this one was a good one. Everyone stuffed themselves to the gills, and complimented the chefs on a job well done.
Kara was also thankful that she didn’t need to cook today so she could stick by the new mothers. She’d been practically glued to them since the babies were born. She couldn’t help it. She may be an adult, but she had separation anxiety. The problem was that now she had to do dishes. Not by herself, of course, others were going to help, but there were still quite a few dishes to clean. They had two dishwashing machines, but not everything would fit, so they were still going to have to wash and dry some by hand, and that was going to take a while. She wouldn’t be able to stick close to her wives and newborns like she wanted to for all that time.
She put on a little speed in washing when Sam sidled up to the sink to rinse the dishes. It was fun watching Sam keep up with her with ease. It helped keep her nervous energy at bay. When everything was washed and rinsed, they turned to drying and putting things away, and with the use of their speed, all the dishes were taken care of in just a few minutes. Of course, Kara wasn’t going to challenge Sam to an all-out race until the CFO had learned to control her powers a bit more, so it wasn’t done instantly, but it was close enough. Neither of them dared to break any of Lena’s beautiful dishes by pushing their limits.
With that stuff out of the way, Kara thanked Sam with a hug and went in search of her family. She found Lena nursing in the dining room alongside Jamie with Joel, and a few others. In the living room, she found her mother, Alex and Jordan, Jessie, and some other people. Lastly, in the pool room was Maggie and Eliza, with Josefina being held by Lucy, along with the rest of the group. With everyone separated, she didn’t know what to do with herself. She settled for stealing Josefina away for a moment and cuddling her sleeping form while joining the others in conversation. Having her daughter in her arms was incredibly soothing, and Kara finally relaxed and listened to Chameleon talking about some movies he’d seen.
“Tomb Raider is way better than Indiana Jones!” Maggie argued.
“Are you kidding me?” Winn complained. “Indiana Jones is the original. A classic!”
“Indiana Jones is cheesy as hell,” Maggie parried. “Tomb Raider has Angelina Jolie at her hottest.”
“You’re just biased because you’re a lesbian,” Winn accused.
Maggie found this hilarious. “Does that make you gay for Harrison Ford?”
Winn chuckled. “Touche’. Maybe I am.”
“I’m with Maggie on this,” Kara piped up. “I like Tomb Raider better.”
“I like them all,” James commented. “I don’t really have a preference. I mean, they both have their good and bad things about them.”
“I don’t really like Angelina Jolie,” Lucy added. “She creeps me out.”
Maggie’s eyes widened. “Sacrilege!” she hissed. “Angelina Jolie is a goddess!”
“Should I be jealous right now?” Kara teased.
Maggie chuckled. “Only if she starts hanging around us.” She gave Kara a wink.
Kara frowned theatrically. “I will throw her into the sun.”
Everyone laughed.
“I’m sorry to say, I’ve never seen Tomb Raider,” Eliza informed them. “Maybe we can watch it sometime soon, so I can see what you’re talking about.”
“Yes!” Maggie cheered. “There’s two movies. They’re both great.”
“Yeah, I really enjoyed them,” Chameleon told her. “I love badass women like that. I don’t care what planet they're from.”
Everyone chuckled.
Kara was glad to see Maggie engaging and laughing and not moping around at the moment. She sat down next to her wife and gave her a kiss. “I tend to agree,” she said with a smirk. “My wives are as badass as they come.”
Lucy nodded emphatically. “Hear, hear!”
“Thanks,” Maggie smiled.
“Lucy’s pretty damn badass herself,” James said proudly, putting his arm around her.
“Thanks, babe,” Lucy kissed him. “I try.”
“Yeah, yeah, rub it in,” Chameleon pouted. “Lots of badass women around and none to take home with me.”
“Sorry, pal,” James clapped him on the shoulder. “You’ll find someone. You’re a great guy.”
“Why thank you,” Chameleon beamed. “You’re a great guy too, James.”
“Thank you. I do my best,” James replied. “I’m no superhero, but I like to think I still contribute something to society.”
“You do, dear,” Eliza encouraged him. “Not the least of which, you help look after my girls.”
“Eh, that’s easy,” James shrugged.
Kara smiled at him in appreciation of his words. “Thanks, James.”
“Can I have my child back?” Maggie pouted.
Kara relinquished her hold on Josefina. “Alright, baby bunny, you’re going back to Mommy.”
The infant stayed asleep, and didn’t even fidget at the transfer. Maggie smiled down at her and leaned back in the chair to hold the baby close on her chest.
“Can I just point out something?” Lucy asked, uncharacteristically reserved.
“What is it?” Kara permitted.
“OK, I’m not trying to be… I don’t know, like, anti-polyamory or whatever when I say this, I’m just generally wondering… Um, how is it going to work with six different kids calling three different women Mommy? Isn’t that going to get a little confusing? The kids are going to call out Mommy, and you’re not going to know which Mommy they want. You guys should get little nicknames like Kara has. Like, do something from their actual names. Maggie could be Maymay or Gigi, Alex could be LeLe, and Lena could be Nana. Then there’s no confusion.”
Kara, Maggie and Eliza all looked at each other in fascination, as none of them had ever had those thoughts occur to them before. “Lucy! You’re a genius!” Kara grinned. “We’ll all have to talk about it, but I like that idea. Although, Mama isn’t a nickname, it’s the Kryptonian word for Mom.”
“Oh,” Lucy said.
“I like the idea too,” Maggie agreed. “I want to be Maymay. Gigi sounds like someone's rich grandma. Maybe the grandkids can call me that,” she chuckled.
Kara whimpered. “Don’t remind me that they’re not going to stay babies forever.”
“Sorry,” Maggie grimaced. “I regretted it the second it came out of my mouth.”
“Hey, being a grandma isn’t so bad,” Eliza told them.
“I’m not saying it is, I’m just saying, I don’t want to think that far ahead,” Maggie chuckled. “This kid was only born three days ago. Speaking of which, I’m beyond exhausted. I think we should round people up to say our goodbyes.”
Everyone’s faces fell as the real sadness of the moment crept in on them. “I’m sorry, honey. You’re right,” Kara nodded. “It is getting late, and I know you guys have only been able to catnap today. I should have spoken up sooner.”
“It’s OK, babe,” Maggie assured her. “We’ve been having fun.”
“Oh, alright then,” Kara said in relief. “Let’s all meet up in the living room. I’ll get the others.”
“Sounds good,” Maggie agreed.
Kara made her rounds through the house, alerting everyone that it was time to wrap things up, and shooing them off to the living room. No one was happy to hear that things were winding down, but they all obediently made their way into the main room. When everyone was gathered around, Kara cleared her throat to get everyone’s attention. “I’d like to do a similar thing to what we did on Thanksgiving and go around in a circle for a big group goodbye, then you all can take time to give any last-minute personal goodbyes you want. Just don’t take all night because some of us need to sleep. I’ll start, and then we can go around the room.
“The first thing I want to do is to thank you again for everything you did to help while we were dealing with the Worldkillers. You saved my life. You kept my family safe during times when I wasn’t able. There’s not enough thanks in the world for that. And as if that wasn’t enough, you all offered not only your help but your friendship. That means so much to me. You guys might not be able to come back, but I will consider you all my friends for the rest of my life. I love you all, and I’m so proud of having you continue my legacy. I’m honored that you all fight in my memory. I hope I did my legend some justice and that you’ll be happy to go back to the future and tell all your friends that you got to meet Supergirl in real life. I hope that you’re reunited with your loved ones, and that you live happy, successful lives in your own time. I’m really going to miss you. Thank you again.” Kara dabbed at the tears streaming down her face, and Liin, who was standing next to her, gave her a great big bear hug. “And thanks for teaching me all those cool cape tricks,” she sniffled.
Jessie and Jamie were both clinging to Liin and bawling their little eyes out, to the point where they couldn’t even speak, so Kara skipped over them for now. “Liin, would you like to say anything?”
Liin nodded. “Yes. I’d like to say thank you for giving me this incredible honor of meeting you and getting to work with you. I know they say to never meet your idols, but this wasn’t one of those times. You have been beyond kind and generous to us, and it has been the best experience of my life to come here and get to know all of you and spend time together. Fighting by your side was the ultimate rush, and I’m more proud than ever to be a member of the House of El. Your legend doesn’t come close to describing how incredible you all really are. I wish I could stay, but my family would kill me.”
Kara chuckled through her tears. “We can’t have that. Give them my love.”
“I will,” he replied. “I wish you could meet them.”
“Me too,” Kara sniffled.
“Anyway, I’d also like to say that Sam and Julia, you ladies are so incredible. You made me proud to help you, and I know you’re both going to do great things in life, whether you’re heroes or not, just because of how kind and brave you both are. Thank you for giving me the honor of meeting you.
“And to the kids, I give all my love. You guys are amazing young people, and I’m proud of all four of you. I’m going to miss you most of all. Be good and don’t let anything derail your educations. Superheroing doesn’t pay the bills.
“To everyone else, thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your hospitality, and for just giving me an overall great experience. I’d be here all night if I tried to thank each and everyone of you, so I’m sorry for not doing that. Just know that I’m really going to miss you guys, and I’m a better person for coming here because of all of you.”
By now, almost everyone was crying or at least teary-eyed. Next in line was James, so Liin waved his hand at him to indicate that it was his turn to speak.
James cleared his throat, “Uh, you Legionnaires helped keep the city and the people that I love safe from the Worldkillers, and a few other baddies, and for that I’ll be forever grateful. Thank you for that. I wish you all love and happiness and success in the future.” He tugged on his wife’s hand to indicate that he was finished.
“The future is lucky to have you guys,” Lucy told the Legionnaires. “It’s reassuring to know that Earth and humanity are being kept safe by you. It has been amazing getting to know all of you and training with you and fighting alongside you. We’re definitely going to feel this loss for a while, but we’ll be happy to know that the future is in good hands. Lena?”
Lena had tears streaming down her cheeks, and she took a deep breath before speaking, “I don’t even know where to start… You saved Kara’s life, and there’s not enough thanks in the world for that. Not only that, but you saved this city, this whole world, just by showing up and helping out a bit. Just by being here. I don’t know what I would have done if…” Lena shook the dark thoughts from her head and redirected herself. “I’m so glad you get to go back to a world that was never decimated by the Blight. I hope you get more time with all of your families, and I hope you never forget how much we love you all.” She nodded at Maggie to go next.
“I don’t know what to say now,” Maggie sniffled. “I was going to say what Lena said. So thank you again for everything, especially for saving Kara. I love you all, and I’m really going to miss you. And take care of each other. Never forget you’re stronger together.” She squeezed Alex’s hand that was in hers to signify the end of her turn.
Alex pursed her lips in thought. “A big thanks from me as well. I can’t say anything better than what Lena and Maggie said, so ditto that. And… Just thank you. You saved this world from a lot of darkness by saving Kara, and we owe you so much gratitude just for that alone. I don’t know how we would have survived without all of your help with the Worldkillers. And besides that, it’s been fun getting to know you. Thank you for coming. And thank you for staying to meet our new little ones. It means a lot that you were here. I’m gonna miss you guys.” Alex’s voice broke as she began to cry again. “Sam?”
Sam nodded. Tears were already streaming down her cheeks. “Gosh, I have so many thoughts, I don’t even know where to begin. Um… I’m sorry for my part in trying to destroy the world. I know it wasn’t really me, but I’m still sorry. I’m sorry that you all had to go through so much trauma to bring you here, but I’m glad you guys were around to help Kara, and to keep her safe from Reign. I don’t care if it was really me or not, if Kara had died because of Reign, I would never have been able to forgive myself. Thank you for not automatically killing all of the Worldkillers and for giving the Danvers the chance to save us. I don’t want to think about what would happen to Ruby if something bad happened to me. Thank you for your compassion and your friendship. I hope everything is so much better when you go back home. You guys deserve all the happiness in the world.” Sam gently bumped her shoulder into Douglas’ arm. “Go before I ramble all night.”
Douglas put his arm around her. “I’d also like to thank you for not automatically killing the Worldkillers. I haven’t had nearly enough time with my Sam for that. Plus, if I lost Sam, I’d lose Ruby too. I can’t lose either of them. Thank you for protecting them. I’m a better man with them in my life. Also, thank you for saving Kara. This family needs her, nevermind the rest of the world. I wish you all the best in the future. You definitely deserve it.” He looked down at Ruby and nodded at her to take her turn.
“Thank you for everything you guys have done to help out,” Ruby said. “I’m glad you didn’t kill my mom, and I’m glad you kept everyone safe.” She looked over at Brainy to indicate that she was done.
Brainy nodded. “I appreciate your thanks, but more importantly, I appreciate the friendship you all have offered to us during our stay. I will never forget this trip, and I too will call you all friends until I meet my end. You are all extraordinary people, and I am honored to have met you... Rokk?”
Rokk cleared his throat. “I’m not really great with words. You all thanking us feels so strange, when I feel like it’s us who owe you thanks. You were an inspiration before we met you. Meeting you in person has been even greater than that. I don’t know if there’s a word for it. Thank you all for being so inspiring.” He elbowed Chameleon to get him to start speaking.
Chameleon sniffled and wiped at his eyes. “Um, yeah, I agree with Rokk. It feels like we owe you all the thanks. I’ve had so much fun here, and no one’s going to believe all the stories we get to tell about you. This has to have been one of the most fun adventures of all time. I don’t know how anything is going to top this. You guys are the best, and I’m going to miss you so much.” His voice broke and he started crying again. “Winn, you go.”
“Oh, man,” Winn sighed. “Um, thank you for sharing your technology with us. I’ve gotten to see some really exciting things that make me excited for the future. You guys have been more than generous with your help, and for that I am extremely grateful. You didn’t just save Kara, you saved all of us. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m really going to miss you. Please take care of each other.” He wiggled against Lyra to show her he was finished.
Lyra’s lip trembled. “I’m going to miss going on patrols with you guys. It was wonderful to have your help since Kara can’t go out as much. You guys are totally badass, and I respect the hell out of you. Thank you for all that you’ve done for us. I hope when you go back to your own timeline that you have lots of things to be joyful about.” When she was finished, she turned to the side, “Eliza?”
Eliza nodded and sniffled. “I am so grateful for you Legionnaires. You saved our family from a lot of trauma and heartbreak. Thank you for all your help, and thank you for your kindness and friendship. I’ll definitely miss you all.” She affectionately patted Alura’s back to signal that she was finished.
Alura smiled through her tears. “I know it’s been said before, but I have to repeat it. There’s not enough thanks in the world for you saving my daughter. I’m glad I didn’t have to witness her fight with the Worldkiller when it was happening. I wouldn’t have handled that well. I’ve seen the footage, and that was devastating enough. I have a second chance at life with my Kara again because of you. Thank you so much. I wish Rao’s blessings on you all… M’rynn?”
“It has been such a pleasure knowing you Legionnaires,” M’rynn began. “Thank you for your friendship. I will never forget you. Thank you for keeping my son and this planet safe. I pray for H’ronmeer’s blessings over each and every one of you.” He turned to J’onn, “You may speak, my son.”
“Thank you, father,” J’onn nodded. “You Legionnaires came just in the nick of time. You helped save Kara and countless others in our time and yours. You should be proud of yourselves for all the good work you’ve done. I know I’m proud of you. You’re great people, and I’m sad to see you go, but I’m happy that your timeline has been restored. I hope that when you go home, you’ll find a beautiful, healthy world to come back to.” He crossed his arms over his chest when he finished. “Vasquez?”
Susan had tears in her eyes, and she cleared her throat before speaking, “You guys have been so cool and fun and helpful. It’s so sad that you have to leave. I’m gonna miss you all so much. I wish you all the best when you go back home.” She turned to the side, “Imra?”
Imra sobbed, “I’m so glad we got to come here, not just because we saved the people in our time, but because of all of you. I could go on for days about all the things I’ve enjoyed about coming here. The battles, the friendship, the clothes, the food, the movies, the music… It’s all been so wonderful. You’ve all been wonderful. Thank you for being so kind and generous to us. I didn’t know coming here would be quite so impactful, but you all have changed me for the better. Seeing how everyone in this room is so loving and close-knit makes me want to strive for that with those around me as well. I see now what El Mayara really means, and I thank you for that. I hope when we go back to our time that we embody your spirit even more now. I hate having to leave you, but I’m looking forward to going back and seeing my sister and everyone else you helped save. Once again, congratulations on your new little ones. I think you’re going to be very proud of who they grow up to be. I hope you’ll tell them about us when they’re older. Take good care of each other, and I promise, we’ll do the same.” She squeezed Garth’s hand to tell him she was through.
“I don’t know how to compete with that,” Garth sniffled. “I second what Imra said. I feel like I’m a better person for coming here and meeting all of you. I’m going to miss you so much.” He started to choke up a bit, so he patted Carter on the shoulder. “Go ahead, buddy.”
Carter took a moment to collect enough bravery to say, “I’ll miss you guys,” and then he was done.
Cat smiled proudly at him for making an effort before she spoke. “I’d like to thank you Legionnaires for being good role models to the children. You’ve been wonderful with them, and I’m grateful for that. Of course, saving Kara was the most important thing you did for us and for the world, so I’m certainly grateful for that as well. The world would be a darker place without young Miss Kara Danvers. She was the first one in a long, long time that I actually let into my heart, and she did not disappoint. I’m so glad she has a legacy in you Legionnaires. You’re a great team, and I can tell that you truly care about one another. You do her name justice. I hope that you continue to be supportive of one another. Human connection is everything. Julia, would you like to say anything?”
“Yes. I want to say thank you for helping save me and Sam. I understand why you killed Grace, and I don’t blame you. She was a bad person on top of being a Worldkiller. She wanted to kill people. But you all trusted the Danvers to save us because we weren’t bad people. You helped us. Thank you. Now, not only do I have some new amazing friends, I have the ability to help people with the powers Purity wanted to use to do them harm. I’m both elated and honored to be joining Supergirl’s team. I couldn’t have done that if you had killed us all. I’m sorry to see you go, but I’m glad you’re going back to a happier life. I hope it’s even better than you wish.” Julia nodded at Kara to signal she was finished
Kara looked at the twins, “Girls? Last chance.”
Jamie sniffled and whimpered. “We’re gonna miss you guys so much! Thank you for saving our Mama.”
“And thank you for being our friends,” Jessie added mournfully.
“Just thank you for everything,” Jamie continued.
“We love you guys,” Jessie finished. “We’re going to miss you so much.”
“Hug time!” Kara announced through her tears. The circle quickly broke as everyone started hugging the Legionnaires goodbye. By now, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Every hug lingered longer than normal. It was a bit of chaos there for a few minutes, and the babies didn’t really appreciate it. They all started crying as well, and that added to the chaos. Rokk pressed the Legionnaires to hurry up a little, so they wouldn’t disturb the newborns anymore. The few who hadn’t hugged each other yet quickly did so, and soon the Legionnaires were gone, and the crowd dwindled down to the Danvers, Cat, Carter, Douglas, Sam, and Ruby.
The twins cuddled on the couch with their partners while tears still streamed down their faces. Kara crossed the room and kissed the four of them on their heads. “I love you guys.”
“Love you too, Mama,” the kids all replied.
Kara’s heart soared at hearing Ruby and Carter call her Mama. She smiled brightly at them. “I know this is hard on you guys. We have to remember to be thankful for the time we had with them, and for the things we still have. Don’t let the sadness take over. We’re here for you, and we’re not going anywhere.”
Jessie got up and threw herself into Kara’s arms, and the others followed, surrounding her with kid hugs.
Kara soaked in the affection. “I love you guys so much,” she repeated.
When they broke apart, the kids went around to the rest of the parents and grandparents, including Douglas, and gave them all hugs as well. Of course, the adults were happy to comfort them, giving them big bear hugs and lots of love.
Currently, Maggie and Lena were nursing on the couch, and Alex was sitting with them. Sam held a sleeping Joel, and Cat was holding Jordan, who was happy to try and hold a conversation with her adoptive grandmother.
“Aaaaaaahh,” Jordan cooed at her.
“Is that so?” Cat replied. “I’ll alert the press right away.”
“Aaaaahhh,” Jordan said.
“Yes, I’ll put my best people on it,” Cat continued.
Everyone started giggling, easing a bit of the tension out of the room.
Jordan smiled when she heard everyone laugh.
“You are such a pretty girl,” Cat gushed. “I love you. Yes, I do.”
Jordan smiled again and flailed around in Cat’s arms. “Aaaaaahhh!”
“Josie’s done nursing, who wants to burp her?” Maggie asked the room.
Almost everyone volunteered, but Carter spoke up in frustration, “I want to hold her, I never get to hold Josie!”
“Alright, come and get her,” Maggie smiled at him.
Carter brightened immediately and gently took the infant from her mother. “Thank you, Maggie.” He eased Josefina onto his shoulder and started patting her back. “Hi, honey! Your big brother’s got you now, huh?” As he continued to pat her back, Josefina burped loudly in his ear, making him laugh. “Good one, girl!”
Everyone laughed again. Carter was so good with the babies, and it was so cute when he talked to them. Kara’s heart ached with love for him. He was a good kid.
“I’m gonna go to bed. I’m exhausted,” Maggie announced.
“Me too,” Alex sighed.
“Me three, as soon as I’m finished here,” Lena agreed.
“OK, my loves,” Kara replied. She helped Maggie and Alex get up off the couch and pulled them each into a hug. “You did so good today,” she whispered to each of them. “I love you so much.” She punctuated her statement with a tender kiss, and a nuzzle to their noses. “I’ll be up soon.”
“OK,” Maggie nodded. “Goodnight, everyone.”
“Goodnight, guys,” Alex repeated.
“Goodnight, Maggie. Goodnight, Alex,” Everyone replied as they headed upstairs.
Cat and Carter continued talking to the babies until the little ones started to get sleepy. Jordan’s happy cooing started to turn into fussing, so Cat gave her her binky and started rocking. Josefina just sucked on her fist and started to fall asleep when Carter stopped talking and started rocking her as well. Soon, Josefina was asleep, and Jordan was at least being mostly quiet for the moment, but who knew how long that would last.
When Lena was finished nursing, she passed the baby off to Ruby.
“Hi, Jacky!” Ruby greeted him. “Are you gonna burp for me?” She gently swayed and patted his back.
“Just bring them all upstairs when you’re through holding them,” Lena requested. “I’m off to try to get some sleep before Joel wakes up.”
“OK, sweetheart, I’ll be up in a couple of minutes,” Kara responded with a big kiss and a big hug. “I love you.”
“Love you too. Goodnight everyone.” Lena waved and headed upstairs to bed.
Kara sat down between the twins and cuddled them while Ruby and Carter held the babies. The twins scooted closer and snuggled under her arms, leaning their heads on her shoulder. “I love you girls so much,” she told them softly.
“We love you too, Mama,” the girls replied.
“So who’s staying and who’s going?” Kara asked the group.
“Well, Ruby has school in the morning, so we should probably get home,” Sam replied. “Unless you think you’ll need us.”
“I’m staying for the rest of the week,” Eliza informed her, “So that should be fine.”
Sam nodded. “OK. Rubes, I’m sorry, but it’s time to get going.” Sam passed Joel over to Eliza.
Ruby pouted a little, but she relinquished Jack to Kara with one last kiss to his tiny forehead. “Love you guys!” she announced to the room.
“Love you too, Ruby,” they replied.
She shared a few kisses with her girlfriend before letting her mom and Douglas usher her out the door.
“We should get going as well,” Cat said. “It is a school night, as Samantha pointed out.”
Carter sighed. “OK.” He kissed Josefina on the head and passed her to Jessie before giving Jamie a big hug and kiss. “Love you, beautiful,” he said to her.
“I love you too,” Jamie smiled sweetly at him.
“We love you all,” Cat told the group.
“Love you guys!” Carter waved as they headed out.
“We love you too,” the Danvers called after them.
Soon it was just Kara, her children and her mothers. “I think we should all get ready for bed too,” Kara suggested. “You kids don’t have to go to bed until bedtime, but I think you should go ahead and wash up and get in your jammies. Let’s get the babies upstairs and in their bassinets. Hopefully, they’ll let the mommies sleep for a while.”
“Can we watch TV?” Jessie requested as they walked upstairs..
Kara nodded. “As long as you go to bed when you’re supposed to.”
“Thank you, Mama.”
They all took the babies to the master bedroom, smiling at how cute the mommies were all cuddled up in bed together. Kara kissed the girls and her mothers goodnight, and waved them out. She changed into her PJ’s, washed up and climbed into bed with her wives to sleep for as long as the babies would let them.
