Chương 11: Chapter 11: Calm Before The Storm

In the heart of a forest filled with lush vegetation and mythical beasts is a cave that Ares was given directions to by none other than his new steed, Primo.

While riding, Praeco discovered that she was able to communicate to, and understand Primo. All Ares heard was a series of grunts from Primo and caws from Praeco the entire time they were having there, "conversation".

'Why do I feel jealous?' Ares thought to himself. The way he felt was like someone watching a foreign language movie with no subtitles; absolutely oblivious.

Sure he could try to pick up on body language but when the subjects of your study are not human but divine animals, it's hard to tell. Ares quickly made a mental note to somehow learn to speak to animals. 'Imagine not only speaking to Primo, but other animals as well! Imagine the strength I'll have!' Ares thought to himself, thinking of all the mythical animals he could have as companions or even spar against if he did go through with it.

Snapping out of his fantasies Ares looked towards the cave. The mouth of the cave was big enough for an animal just a little bigger than Primo to enter. Its visible walls were covered with vines crawling from the ground and some falling in front of the cave entrance. Different types of multicolored flora were on either side of the cave and three claw marks were displayed horizontally on top and in the middle of the entrance.

Stepping into the cave, as soon as Ares placed a foot inside, something deep within the cave spoke, its voice deep but distinctly female.

"What do one of the filthy Gods of Olympus want in my domain?!" Suddenly a massive aura slammed into Ares, Praeco, and Primo. The cave shook violently and the vines falling in front of the caves entrance began flailing wildly almost as if they had a mind of their own. The ceiling of the cave began to crack causing rocks to fall to the cave floor, each one that fell bigger than the last.

Ares who was now fully inside the cave with Praeco and Primo just, looked around. He wasn't impressed. The aura this being is giving off is quite considerable. Anyone who didn't have the strength of a God or a Demigod would be dead right now. However to Ares, he honestly doesn't feel anything. To him it felt like when you get a mosquito bite; able to ignore it even though it's there.

Looking at Praeco, who was on Primo's head, and Primo himself, Ares could see that they're fine also. 'Praeco has been with me for a while. She seen me act up too, this aura should be nothing for her. Primo and I fought. The aura I was releasing was much stronger than this, and that wasn't even twenty percent of my strength.' Ares thought, but the slight against Olympus didn't go over his head either.

"Who are you? Show yourself?" Ares asked calmly, more like ordered. Although it came across as calm to the ear, to the divine or mythical, the words he just spoke were filled with power.

From the dark depths of the cave heavy footsteps could be heard. Each step exuded power, announcing the the presence of the being. Thanks to the moonlight shining through the cave entrance Ares was able to see the cave's inhabitant.

Standing an impressive nine feet, the now identified griffin had a white feathered head, with eyes that held crimson irises and black pupils. Her neck was feathered black and ended at her torso which was colored white also, resembling that of a lion. Though her torso was that of a lion's, her two front feet were Eagle claws and were colored white. Only her back legs followed her torso and resembled a lion's hind legs and were black in color.

Finally stepping fully into the light and spreading her two five foot wings, the griffin spoke once again, "How dare a wretched God of Olympus question who I am? You miscreants have no place to put my name in your mouths, BEGONE!"

Suddenly a wave of energy, green and gold in color, quickly swept throughout the cave. The debris that once fell from the lady griffin's earlier outburst flew out of cave along with Ares who not expecting it, also got caught in the blast.

"That won't happen again." Ares muttered getting up from the forest floor. That blast had knocked Primo some distance away and Praeco, who was on Primo's head, was able to gather herself in the air and safely land on a near by tree.

"KYAHAHA!! Is this what Olympus has to offer? Mother was right! We will surely get my family back!" The Griffin wasn't paying Ares any mind. It was its own world thinking of how she can use this as a stepping stone for her mother's love. 'Why make children when you have me! I am ALL you need mother!' The lady griffin thought to herself. This little God would be perfect for her ambitions.

"Look all I wanted was a favor. You didn't even ask me my name and your already disrespecting me like you know me. You could have disrespected me, I would have been fine. But imagine the stain on my name if I let you walk away talking the way you do. I'm sure you will tell others that you were visited by a God of Olympus and he did nothing. If you found out my divinity I'm sure you would boast even more. So for that, instead of asking nicely, I'll force you to take me to him."

"Wha-" the lady griffin couldn't finish as she was suddenly struck in her chest, violently hitting the ceiling, and crashing back into the cave floor cracking it. Ares unsheathed is worn out sword at attempted stab the griffin but it suddenly extended its hind legs kicking Ares outside of the cave once again.

Following quickly after Ares, the griffin moved fast enough to appear above him, slamming her clawed feet into Ares. *BOOM* A plum of smoke exploded from the ground. The griffin separated itself from Ares' chest and gained some distance expecting it to find a bruised and battered God. However, when the smoke finally dissipated and the griffin could gaze upon where it expected Ares to be, Ares wasn't there.

The now wide eyed griffin's head was swiveling left to right, its wings spread and its instincts screaming at it to move. Just as it was about to flap its wings, in either escape or to locate Ares, it felt half its body, particularly on its back, felt light. Turning its head slowly to the left, the griffin's already wide eyes grew even wider. Standing behind her with a chipped sword dripping green blood, and her left wing firmly in hand was Ares.

"MY WING! YOU BASTARD!" The griffin swung her clawed foot at Ares, green energy coating her talons. Dodging the attempt, Ares used her wing as a club, hitting the griffin and causing it to fly to the side crashing into trees.

Like the griffin to him, Ares quickly followed her appearing feet in front of her and swung his sword horizontally across her torso, just above her hind legs. "Red Summer" A wave of jagged red energy enveloped Ares' sword and was then expelled towards the lady griffin cleanly cutting off and cauterizing her two hind legs.

"AGGGHHH!" The lady griffins wale made the surrounding earth tremble. Ares walked towards the now prostrate griffin his eyes cold and wisps of black and red energy sparking sporadically off of him. "That's better." Ares said, his once cold eyes gleaming, a smile across his face. "Now let's start over. I am Ares, may I have the pleasure of knowing who you are?" The smile on his face grew wider.

Glaring up and Ares the griffin remained silent. Seeing this, Ares placed his foot on one of the griffin's cauterized hind legs and pressed down, crushing the already broken bones.

The screams and pleas the griffin was shouting to Ares was like music to his ears. Is he becoming sadistic? He doesn't know. 'But this, this feeling! Watching the griffin beg, it feels so good!' Ares thought to himself. Focusing back on the lady griffin who at this point was weakly begging for mercy, Ares lifted his foot up, satisfied for now.

"Now honestly, it doesn't matter who you are, I just thought of being polite. But now that we're here and you now the very first bi-pedal griffin, I'm going to need you to answer some questions. Firs-" Hearing the trees behind him rustle, Ares looked back, his hand on his sword handle.

"Oh, Primo, it's you. That first blast sent you far huh?" Ares asked his new companion, chuckling after. All Ares received back was a grunt. It seems Primo is not in the mood. Turning back to the lady griffin Ares eyes grew wide; the griffin wasn't there. Instead in its place was a woman not much shorter than Ares standing at a height of 8ft5in.

She had long green, curly hair that reached her mid back resembling vines and leaves. Her skin was brown in color and her face was naturally gorgeous like the stars in the night sky. Her eyes matched her hair with her irises having a green color and her pupils black.

Her body was covered in an elegant dress made out of different flowers and leaves but one could tell it was very well shaped.

"Son of Hera I know of your quest. The chalice you seek is in my possession. And though I am upset you have injured my child severely, I will give it you, but I'm return you must relay a message to Zeus and the other Gods of Olympus. Your days of peace are numbered. Olympus will fall and the Titans will anew. Prepare yourselves." Soon after the mysterious woman finished a bright light assaulted Ares' vision. Regaining his sight, Ares saw in place of the woman now stood a golden chalice no bigger than three feet.

'Was that Gaia? I'm sure that was her. Is it time?' Ares confused, but more importantly excited. Even though he didn't get a chance to see Prometheus or the end of the world he's finally he can get his weapons. He's pretty sure Morpheus is sick of seeing the same dream over and over when he goes to sleep.

"Finally! I'm able to get my weapons AND test them out soon after? If Christmas was ever invented it would be today! Come Primo, Praeco! Full speed to Olympus. HAHAHA"
