51.25% SPHINX: A CHASE FOR THE SOUL / Chapter 41: CHAPTER 40: ROUTE TO GREEN HARBOR

Chương 41: CHAPTER 40: ROUTE TO GREEN HARBOR

They had gone far off into the skies and above the various lands that appeared every time the cloud moved, the breeze creates sound against their ears and the wings of the horses flapped hard to break gravity's control. They have long since passed over lands of houses which was for the most part, Gallowway.

There was a stream at Gallowway but its clear waters could not be fully appreciated from the distance.

Soon they were over huge lands with roof tops and well built roads. Rachael swears she even see a car moving down below with no one to appreciate her gesture she keeps quiet and let the silence between them prevail.

The clouds get darker for a bit but soon they light up with brighter colors and bird songs soon fill the air. A large creature flies a few meters away from them in the opposite direction, its wings glow like sapphire and diamonds as they glitter under the sun.

Samuel and Rachael see Obelix dive downwards, south and further from the sun.

Asterix follows behind, diving underneath a cloud and down towards the earth.

Rachael looks down and sees many infrastructures of modern and old age houses, a blend of two civilizations. A blend of two worlds much like her and Gabriel.

Samuel feels a sudden darkness around them. He sees no enemy around but smells skins of fresh blood and malice in the air. He looks forward to see if Obelix and the blonds are alright. Everything looks okay but he can't stop thinking about the voices he begins to hear.

No, not voices. Thoughts.

Samuel raises his head up and his throat sucks in the air around as he shouts, "Amanda, watch out"; pale skinned creatures appear from the clouds with wings of thin skin and pointed ears. Their eyes are dark and their scream is as terrifying as a snake's hiss.

They pursue the girls as their pegasus increase its pace, the creatures follow tightly behind like predators closing in on a prey. Asterix maneuvers its way through the skies with the strange creatures on their trail.

"What are those things?" Rachael asks as the stead bends in different directions to deceive the chasing monsters.

"Vampires, a different breed than you know but they are vampires," he says.

"Samuel, look" Rachael points above them as the same creatures come from above to chase them.

Asterix moves faster as his wings cut the air deep and swift with the acknowledgement of its feat in its neighs. Samuel glances backwards at the approaching vampires and growls, "This is becoming annoying," he snarls.

One of the vampire holds a spear and it throws it at them but the sphinx taps Asterix on his side and forces the pegasus to take a left dive, dodging the spear on one side.

They have already flown a distance away from the city with fancy buildings and they are closer to green lands of grass and trees.

Asterix neighs as a spear enters the side of its neck and its blood gushes out into the air.

Rachael screams at the sight of the fallen pegasus and they begin to fall towards the ground at an alarming pace.

Samuel grabs Rachael and holds her against his chest as they slide off Asterix's back, black wings burst of Samuel's back and they spread wide breaking the force of the fall.

He dives downward as the winged vampires follow them, throwing spears and hisses at them. Samuel counts about four vampires behind him, he knows he can't keep running with Rachael in his hands so he flies lower until they are close to the ground.

He flies faster and puts more distance between them until he approaches a tree and drops her at the tail of the tree.

"I will be right back," Samuel says and flies away.

Rachael runs from the shade of the tree to watch Samuel fly towards their pursuers, she clenches are fists and uses one hand to search for Nightmare which she hung behind her pants.

Even with Nightmare she feels useless, all she can do is watch as the immortals fight in the air.

Her heart beats fast as she assesses the situation but things will only get worse as she soon finds out.

The sound of breaking twigs pulls her attention away from the fight in the sky to the tree where she sees a creature with gleaming yellow eyes and a deep growl slowly approaching.

The moment they locked eyes the creature jumps out of the bushes behind the tree to reveal a beast of black fur and sharp claws as it chases Rachael.

Rachael runs with all her might but the jaguar is much faster and it pounces on her back, dropping her to the ground as the two of them roll over. Rachael slips from the grip of the beast with a scratch on her shoulder.

She quickly gets to her feet and begins to run again just as the beast stands up; it chases her down but its hunt is interrupted when a body lands on top of its head.

It snarls and groans thrashing around as if to fight something around it. It calms down as it notices the injured vampire that laid on the floor. The jaguar sniffs and looks up before turning its hungry gaze at the vampire who is struggling to get up.

He tries to heal himself but he is not fast enough and the jaguar pounces on him, biting and tearing out his throat.

Rachael runs with every fiber in her body, she runs toward a much bushier part of the unfamiliar lands she finds herself. "Stop," Samuel shouts out and lands in front of her.

"Where are you going?" he asks, "Away from here. There is a fucking jaguar back there," she says as she breathes heavily.

"Believe me it is better to have the jaguar than to enter this forest. Let us keep moving," he says.

"What about Amanda and Elma?" Rachael asks, "I think they managed to dodge the vampires, they should still be on their way to Green Harbor," Samuel says.

"We aren't far from Green Harbor, we can make it before the next attack" he says.

"Next attack? Who is trying to kill us? Is it Alucard?" Rachael asks, "Most likely but I don't think he is the only one after us," Samuel says. He runs his hands through his hair and takes Rachael's hand.

"Come on," they start to walk in the fields that fill the lands.

Behind them is a wide range of land with green grasses but where they walk into are dryer lands with dead grasses and dry trees. Strange birds fill the air and these parts seem strange, giving off a sense of danger to passersby.

They pause when they come around a small pile of bones; "What is this place, Samuel?" Rachael asks, "Wild Land. It is rich in resources and grass but it also harbors dangerous predators," he answers.

Rachael notices the strange opening behind his jacket and she stretches her hand to rub them with her fingers. She feels his back, his smooth skin and hard muscles send a strange tingling through her head and she feel her thighs grow weak.

Samuel turns and looks at her, "What kind of design is this?" she asks to throw him off any suspicion, "They are for my wings, so they don't tear my clothes. Come on," he pulls her closer and leads her under the covers of some bushes.

"I want to fly us out of here but those vampires are still out there," "I thought vampires are afraid of you," Rachael says, "They are but they aren't afraid of you. If I leave to kill them, any one of them can circle back and come for you," he says.

"I can handle myself," "I am not willing to take that risk," he says.

"Let us keep moving," Samuel pulls her away from the light and onto the shadow of the trees and the floating leaves that fall from their stems.

Winged vampires parade the skies to hunt for them, while Elma and Amanda reach Green Harbor.

Hopefully.

And these lands aren't safe, there is a black jaguar lying around just waiting to pounce on them.

Rachael touches Nightmare's hilt to give her the courage to move forward. She has to be prepared for anything, after all, this world is not a world for humans.

Anything can happen to her, she fears.
