In Jingnan State's Lingnan region, a rumor persisted for years. People said that in the Lingnan marshland, a black serpent often appeared, and inside its cave, a secret treasure was hidden.
Han Li's sect, Qingyun, accidentally obtained a treasure map related to the Black Serpent Cave. Somehow, the news leaked, attracting the covetous eyes of many fellow cultivators.
After a fierce battle, Qingyun Sect suffered heavy casualties. Left with no other choice, they handed over the treasure map, and form a treasure-hunting team with other sects from Lingnan to seek the treasure in the swamp.
Han Li and the Lingnan Twin Fiends were naturally in the treasure-hunting team. Following the map, they found the Black Serpent Cave but awakened the black serpent inside. The team was almost wiped out, with only a few escaping alive.
Thanks to her high alertness, Han Li managed to flee before the serpent awakened. The Lingnan Twin Fiends, due to their greed, fell into a trap. Though they eventually escaped, all of their friends and relatives died in the Black Serpent Cave.
The Lingnan Twins Fiends blamed the deaths of their relatives and friends on Han Li. They also believed that she had already obtained the secret treasure of the Black Serpent Cave, so they pursued her relentlessly.
After finishing their roast chicken, Fang Zhou learned some basic information about the cultivation world in Jingnan state from Han Li.
The cultivation community in Jingnan State can be categorized into three distinct levels.
At the bottom level are individual cultivators without affiliations to any sects. Although they constitute the largest group, they are largely insignificant, often relying on minor skills or scams to sustain themselves. Master Ji belongs to this group.
The middle level consists of small sects with a complete heritage, as well as cultivation families bound by blood ties. Both Qingyun and the Lingnan Twin Fiends fit into this category.
The topmost level is reserved for the illustrious major sects. They possess systematic techniques, an abundance of disciples, considerable secular influence, and formidable leaders. The Xuan Ji Sect stands as a prime example of such a sect. With its vast number of disciples and powerful masters, especially those at the Golden Core realm, it firmly establishes itself as a dominant cultivation force in Jingnan State.
Han Li spoke of Xuan Ji Sect with a touch of envy. With her qualifications, Xuan Ji was out of her reach, and she could only join a small sect like Qingyun. Now that Qingyun had been destroyed due to the Black Serpent Cave incident, she had become an individual cultivator without a sect.
Fang Zhou was a little shocked when he heard that. The Xuan Ji Sect was actually so powerful. He thought that Li Ruyu was just exaggerating, but it turns out she was telling the truth.
Considering he and Ling Xiaoyue had offended the Xuan Ji Sect, they might face them in battle if they ever meet again.
It seems they shouldn't reveal their names and backgrounds casually to avoid being hunted by the Xuan Ji Sect.
Though Han Li was puzzled by Fang Zhou's lack of common knowledge, she didn't doubt his strength. After all, someone who could frighten a fearsome demon into speaking human language couldn't be ordinary.
In the cultivation world, it wasn't unusual to find masters so engrossed in their practice that they were oblivious to the outside world.
The two chatted, and soon the morning sun began to rise, casting a crimson hue across the sky.
Having slept throughout the night, Ling Xiaoyue finally woke up and stretched, "Hmm... It's been a while since I slept so well. Huh, what's this? Who stuffed my nose?"
She removed two pieces of cloth from her nostrils, only to find Han Li sitting with Fang Zhou. She was immediately shocked, "Apprentice, I leave you alone for just one night, and you've been seduced! Who is this young women?"
Han Li was curiously examining Ling Xiaoyue. However, after hearing her words, her face turned awkward. "What is this woman saying?"
She also noticed Ling Xiaoyue's address to Fang Zhou.
Apprentice?
Fang Zhou glared at Ling Xiaoyue. Had this woman not been asleep last night, things wouldn't have been so perilous.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Fang Zhou said irritably, "This is Miss Han Li, who was passing by last night and stayed here."
He recounted the events of the previous night, emphasizing how he had responded calmly to the crisis. With his sharp reflexes and quick wit, he had scared away the mountain demon, preventing the potential tragedy of Ling Xiaoyue being devoured while she slept.
As Fang Zhou spoke, Ling Xiaoyue's gaze settled on the chicken bones scattered on the ground. She remarked, "How could you eat without waking me up?"
A vein popped on Fang Zhou's forehead in irritation. "Are you really focusing on the food right now?"
He took a deep breath, attempting to keep his temper in check. "Didn't you mention that waking you might cause a Qi deviation?"
She scoffed, "Do you really think I'd go berserk that easily? I was just joking with you. You should've educated yourself more about this..." Ling Xiaoyue criticized Fang Zhou's lack of insight.
No longer able to control his frustration, Fang Zhou picked up a large stone and hurled it at her. She dodged with ease, laughing joyously at his reaction.
From a distance, Han Li observed them with a growing suspicion. However, she kept her expression neutral.
Ling Xiaoyue looked at Han Li again, smiling, "Oops, my apologies, young lady. I was a bit disoriented from just waking up. I thought you two might've had a thing going on last night."
Despite saying she was sorry, there was not a trace of embarrassment on her face.
She patted Fang Zhou's shoulder, "It's okay if you really had something going on. My disciple is strong and capable. He can handle several girls like you with no problem."
Fang Zhou drew his sword, "Shut up, shameless old woman!"
Ling Xiaoyue dodged his sword, "Hehe, I'll always be seventeen at heart."
Han Li hurriedly explained, "Senior, please don't misunderstand. I have not overstepped any boundaries with Mr. Fang, nor would I dare to offend him."
Ling Xiaoyue sidled up to Han Li and put her arm around her shoulder, grinning, "Don't be afraid, I know you wouldn't dare, but do you want to? Don't deny it. Everyone has a love for beauty, and fantasizing isn't a crime. Even if you imagine my apprentice in eighteen different poses, I won't blame you. How about we share? I often imagine him in a hundred and eight poses, hehehe."
Han Li's face finally turned a little red, and she felt so awkward that she didn't know where to put her hands and feet. All she could say was, "I didn't."
Despite her careful nature, this was the first time she had met someone as unpredictable as Ling Xiaoyue..
Whether or not Han Li had imagined anything about Fang Zhou, who knows?
Fang Zhou couldn't stand it anymore. Moments ago, the conversation had been straightforward and serious. However, the moment this woman spoke, everything turned lewd.
His expression seemed to say, "Would it kill you not to speak like that?"
Unable to tolerate it any longer, Fang Zhou said to Han Li, "Don't listen to her nonsense."
Then he turned and left the Earth Temple to find the Sixth Generation and Five Five.
After Fang Zhou left, Ling Xiaoyue glanced at Han Li's chest, "Oh my, you're hiding something good."
Han Li was shocked and instinctively covered the small bottle hidden in her bosom.
Ling Xiaoyue laughed, "Don't worry, I'm not interested in your treasure."
She walked out of the Earth Temple, leaving Han Li, with her heart in turmoil, watching her. Han Li hadn't expected her deepest secret to be seen through so quickly, and yet, it seemed the other party didn't care at all.
