Wang Yin
"No Third Elder, It is Patriarch to you." Wang Yichen coldly replied to his younger brother, who was attempting to speak cordially to him. Wang Yichen knew what the man was trying to do with his choice of words, and he didn't have it.
Wang Yin also knew that his attempt wouldn't work, but with how bad of a situation he was in, it was worth a shot. So after a little bit of inward cursing, he stepped forward and changed his approach from casual to cordial.
"Yes, Patriarch, my apologies." Wang Yin spoke with an insincere bow.
Wang Yin was one of the elders of the Wang Clan who wasn't convinced of Wang Yichen's appointment to the Patriarch position.
Even though Wang Yichen was the most talented in his generation, Wang Yin, the third elder, the second elder, and the first elder all also had peak Yellow-grade Martial Veins.
Everyone in Wang Yichen's lineage, including all of the top three elders, were extremely old men at this point in time. Wang Yichen simply looked the youngest, as he was the patriarch and had to keep up appearances. Beyond that, he had almost the same strength as his brothers.
So while he was faster than them to reach the peak of the Domain Lord realm, he didn't have any hopes of advancing to the Xiantian Great Realm like his three brothers.
The tiny bit of higher combat strength he possessed didn't do much either in the grand scheme of things.
Wang Yichen was the oldest of his brothers, and because of this, he was almost 200 years old. The last time he had to fight had to have been a few decades ago, at the very least.
Strength didn't matter in the discussion of the patriarch seat, and because of this, Wang Yin and the other elders started to get greedy.
Of course, Wang Yichen knew about this but was simply too unbothered to care. So while ignoring the glint in his younger brother's eyes, he started speaking.
"So, Third Elder, I assume you know your mistake. Would you like to repent for your sins willingly, or do you want me to force you?" Wang Yichen asked coldly.
"Wait, Patriarch! The servants didn't inform me of what I had done. Can you please grace me with the knowledge of my mistake?" Wang Yin spoke hurriedly.
Though he knew he had made a mistake, Wang Yin assumed it to be a tiny one. However, after hearing the solemn words coming from Wang Yichen, Wang Yin instantly figured out that his previous guess wasn't the case. Moreover, from just how serious Wang Yichen sounded, it was obvious Wang Yin would lose at least a layer of skiing from this punishment.
So since he couldn't get out of it, Wang Yin at least wanted to know why he was getting punished rather than be in the dark the entire time.
While Wang Yichen ruled with an iron fist and was ruthless toward any man, he was still a stickler for rules. So after hearing Wang Yin plead ignorance, he pulled out a notebook from his spatial ring.
"10 years ago, I ordered you to poison Xue Bai, son of Duke Xue Feng, with a high Yellow-grade Vein Swallowing Worm. However, you cheapened out and only fed Xue Bai a middle Yellow-grade Vein Swallowing Worm."
"Taking into account how extensive your contributions to the clan were and the fact that back then, I silently agreed with you as I also didn't believe that Xue Bai would awaken a high Black-grade Martial Vein, I only then punished you by having you assassinate two peak stage Domain Lord realm cultivators."
"You completed the task successfully, but after you did, I still warned you that if Xue Bai does awaken a high Black-grade Martial Vein, you'll regret it." Wang Yichen spoke coldly.
Since Wang Yin could infer where Wang Yichen was going from the first sentence, he had long since turned pale from fright. But out of respect and fear, Wang Yin let his older brother finish his words before speaking.
"Then, Patriarch, what you're saying is that Xue Bai awakened a high Black-grade Martial Vein?" Wang Yin asked tentatively.
"Not only that, it even has a fire element affinity! All because of your cheapness! So now, Third Elder, I ask you again, "Are you willing to repent, or do you want me to force you?" Wang Yichen berated him as he slammed the armrest of the chair he sat in, turning it into dust.
Hearing his older brother admonish him like a parent would their child made the pride in Wang Yin want to come out and fight for himself. However, Wang Yin knew he couldn't.
Even though they were both in the same cultivation realm and stage, Wang Yichen's domain was much stronger than his own. And a fight would only serve to anger Wang Yichen even more while he was being beaten into submission.
It was a lose-lose.
So gritting his teeth, Wang Yin knelt down and spoke, "This elder is willing to repent for his sins."
"Smart man. Then I'll give you your task now. Since you've already made a mess, you should take responsibility and clean it up yourself." Wang Yichen spoke as he stood up from the chair he was in.
Not finishing his own words, Wang Yichen also started to leave the office the two were in, leaving Wang Yin alone.
"Wait! Patriarch, you don't mean you want me to... Wang Yin spoke. But before he could finish his sentence, Wang Yichen cut him off.
"You aren't a child. You know what my words mean—no need to say them aloud. You also aren't allowed back into our Wang Clan estate to ask any Wang Clan members for help or use any Wang Clan resources until you have completed your mission. This includes formulations and pills." Wang Yichen spoke as he strode off, leaving Wang Yin alone.
Wang Yin, in the courtyard, was now feeling a wealth of anger. Back when he had to assassinate the peak-stage Domain Lord realm cultivators 10 years ago, it was much easier. As not only was he allowed to recruit help from the Wang Clan, but he also could use the Space-Sealing Formation of the Wang Clan.
The Space-Sealing Formation of the Wang Clan was a middle Black-grade formation that they had received from a Blood Saber Sect backer in the Central Continent.
Its uses were exactly what the name said. It sealed the space inside the formation, which made it impossible for anything that was sealed inside to escape until the formation was either turned off or broken.
The formation was useful for assassinations and sealing powerful beasts that the Wang Clan couldn't defeat. It was only through the Space-Sealing Formation that Wang Yin was able to kill such high-profile cultivators without being chased by their backers.
However, now Wang Yichen told him he wasn't able to use the only treasure that allowed him to complete the last mission.
The pills weren't a problem; Wang Yin was rich. He could simply buy a lot more. And while not being able to recruit help increased the difficulty a little, it was still doable, especially with Wang Yin's skills. However, without the Space-Sealing Formation, Wang Yin had no confidence in killing Xue Bai.
Xue Bai was a known shut-in in the Great Xuan Empire. The boy had spent almost all of his life inside his own home. And even inside his estate, he was protected by two parents, two late-stage Domain Lord realm cultivators, and another dozen or so Law Manifestation realm cultivators too.
And on the off chance that Xue Bai wasn't at the Duke Estate, he was in Snowy Wind City, where Li Huo lived. Li Huo was even stronger than Xue Feng and Li Ruo. Rather than still being in the late stages, he was already a peak-stage Domain Lord realm cultivator.
With Xue Bai's personality and Wang Yin's cautiousness, this mission, at the minimum, would take a few years to complete, either that or an immense stroke of luck.
Thinking that far, Wang Yin went back to his courtyard to try and finalize a plan before Wang Yichen kicked him out of the estate.
–
Unaware that a peak-stage Domain Lord realm cultivator was now targeting him, Xue Bai was in his room cultivating.
Waking up from another cultivation session, Xue Bai couldn't help but put on a gleeful expression. His estimate from earlier was incorrect. The place he had cultivated earlier had messed up his calculations.
The time he made this estimate was while he was cultivating at Li Huo's place, which skewed his guess. Snowy Wind City was one of the Great Xuan Empire's greatest cities, and its Spiritual Qi density was indeed high, but it still could not compare to Xue Bai's courtyard.
And after cultivating in his bedroom, Xue Bai's previous guess of 5 weeks could be brought down to 1 month or even less.
This pace was indeed amazing, but it didn't match very well with his goal. The goal? It was simple. Xue Bai wanted to reach the Bone Strengthening realm by the time he reached 13 years old.
However, now that he decided to cultivate the Purification Stages, he had 8 more stages on his way to reaching his goal.
From his current cultivation level of the 9th stage of the Blood Exchange realm all the way to the 1st stage of the Bone Strengthening realm, it was 22 stages, and with only 18 months until his 13th birthday, Xue Bai wasn't at a pace capable of reaching his goal.
Of course, this wouldn't stop Xue Bai from cultivating the Purification Stages, but it was still a cause for concern.
And even with his high Heaven-grade bloodline and low Heaven–grade Martial Veins, Xue Bai wasn't very confident in advancing 22 cultivation stages in just 18 months.
Even though he was cultivating extremely fast now, his pace was capable of reaching his goal. Moreover, the higher his cultivation base became, the slower his cultivation speed would get.
"This won't do. I should go out and grab some opportunities to speed up my cultivation. Bitterly cultivating is driving me nuts, and it's not even able to match the pace needed for my goal." Xue Bai thought aloud as he changed out of his pajamas and into some casual wear.
Walking outside, Xue Bai found Xiao'er a few feet away, kicking her feet in the pond as she usually did. To her left was a broom along with a large pile of leaves, so Xue Bai assumed she had just finished cleaning his garden and was now relaxing.
So, not wanting to bother the girl, he simply left her alone and went to continue her plan for today.
Bidding her farewell, Xue Bai left his courtyard and went to his father's office.
His goal? To leave the estate once more.
There was pillaging to be done.

There is now a discord for this novel. However, be warned. It is rather bare bones. I suck at Discord. The link is in the synopsis.
