Chương 11: The runaway bride

Thursday and Friday went by gradually, Claire had expected Donald's call but was fed with disappointment and the day coming after Friday was Saturday which was their engagement. Staring at the mirror as she cleaned her face, she sighed. The fact that tomorrow was their engagement disheartened her but at the same time, she was excited deep down inside her and not because she was getting engaged to him, it was because she was going to see his beautiful face.

She hated the fact that the moment she settled her eyes on him to see he was still alive and good-looking, she was always happy and always had her mind at rest.

Claire had had dinner so she went to bed and crawled to her bookshelves to see that she had read all the books she had, she needed to visit the library and get a new bunch of books. The girl lie down on her bed and turned off the lights to sleep. After tucking herself in the bedsheets, she stared at the ceiling thinking about one man, Donald.

"When will you call me?" She asked the space, she had received the dress she was going to wear to her engagement party. Claire had also worn the gown and saw that it fit, she didn't care about the brand or the style. She wasn't interested in the marriage anymore. The behaviour he threw at her could chase any woman away from him and he just did to her.

However, she just couldn't get him out of her mind, she hated herself for loving him more than she loved herself. The frustration made her lift her hand and push her palms to her face, groaning her feelings. "Gosh..." She sighed and opened her eyes to stare at the ceiling again. After staring into space for a while, she grabbed her phone and went to the gallery to check his photos to see the pictures she took of him. "I hate you," she glared at his pictures. "I hate you so much," Claire suddenly had tears in her eyes. "You are such a jerk," pouting her mouth and staring at his pictures, she recalled how he yelled at her. And how he screamed about her begging for love. That statement crushed her a million times and now that she remembers it, she just wishes she could fall asleep and not wake up until she has gotten rid of the feelings she had for him.

She let her phone fall on the bed and covered herself to cry more about how much he hurt her. "Is it so bad to just see me and love me? Is it a crime to be nice to me at least?" Weeping, she asked herself.

Claire was already awake and was aware of her engagement happening in just thirty minutes, she had been called out by her maids and her assistant to come out for the event but even when her mind was eager to go out there and exchange rings with him, her body felt dead and unmovable.

Motivating herself didn't work instead she continued to remember his words about him not loving her. The more she replayed his stern emotionless face, the weaker her heart gets, the more discouraged she was about marrying Donald and maybe running away was the right thing to do.

Corey was seated on the sofa that was settling in front of everyone in the hall, he felt uncomfortable sitting alone and watching everyone walk past him and guests walking in to find places to sit.

It was strange that he came earlier, his parents had urged him to be ten minutes ready before the actual time because Claire would have been there but here he was sitting without her.

With the four to five days he had started to live as Donald, Claire was the closest to him, the person he felt comfortable speaking with was the girl but she took things too far. He wasn't interested in her and the way she acts so clingy as if they were some kind of love birds irritated him and he had to yell.

Now, it was ten minutes after the actual time and everyone was beginning to murmur about the bride's lateness. Was this supposed to be a good thing? He asked as he looked around waiting for his bride.

Had she perhaps run away?

And his thoughts made him chuckle obviously. This caught the attention of everyone, increasing the volume of their murmurs. That was the least he cared about. This was fascinating actually!

The girl not showing up would be a big disgrace to his parents...they were so greedy to have their son marry a stubborn girl out of love. He thought they believed love was for marriage and not for...he lowered his head and chuckled more. So pathetic!

But wait, he looked beautiful today, the suit his assistant was blabbering about, saying the brand and the amount and everything he was putting on was worth thousands of Yalis. Now, now, he was enjoying what had been supposed to be his all along.

Fifteen minutes and the wife who was supposed to be the wife wasn't here, more interesting! He paced his eyes around to not see his parents around. Corey barely reminded Claire's parents' faces but he knew they were arguing by now.

"The runaway bride," he suddenly heard from the guy who came to the changing room earlier saying he was Max and they'd been friends for seven years. He introduced himself to meet his understanding but Corey didn't seem to like the man. "But, why?" He turned to his right to see another guy who also introduced himself as Greg, saying they'd been friends for seven years too. They were actually popular in school.

"Hey," Corey who was resting on the chair board sat up and placed both arms on his thighs.

"She disappointed you," Max uttered. "The reason why she had never deserved you. Did she tell you that we almost made out? Her urge...she came to me..." He asked Greg.

"Three days ago, bro."

"She told me how horny she was," he laughed. "And I was like, babe...you have a finan-cee," he was always laughing along with Greg. "Not only that bro, she usually sends me her nudes...too bad my phone is charging, would have loved to share it with you." He paused because ever since Corey had taken a glass of wine from a waiter and saying 'hey' he had only been listening.

"Have you kissed her?" He pushed it again. "Because I have...I have had more than enough of her lips, she's of course sweet but will always be that girl...a girl that begs for a man's attention."

And Corey almost broke the glass he had in his hand because of his anger but his action was reversed the moment the sun shining from the entrance got clouded by someone who looked unhappy but beautiful. The dress looked so good on her and he in one gulp drank the whole content in the glass before standing up and beholding more of her appearance. She came.
