Chương 20: C19 Escape and—
~= Julienne PoV =~
[ || 10:00 PM || ]
I am driving home just as usual after work. Today was quite a hectic one because I was trying to find any clue that can lead me to that hacker, to no avail.
But an odd thing happened today. They canceled any investigation about finding the hacker and they reassigned us to work on the Stauxnet Project.
Why it's odd? Because I know the US Government wouldn't let anyone just go away scot-free, knowing they could compromise the United States' interests. Any nation in the Earth wouldn't let that happen.
Although it was odd, I didn't think much of it and worked on the Stauxnet Project for the rest of the day. Though I decided that I would still continue investigating that hacker, for no particular reason but utter curiosity.
Many questions have been plaguing my mind these days. Why is this name familiar? What have I forgotten? All I know is that this is all the clue I have to learn of who I am... in the early years of my life.
I don't know why, but the first twelve years of my life has been blank. I know nothing and don't remember ANYTHING related to those years. I was adopted in an orphanage when I was twelve because I was found sleeping on a bench on the park by the police after someone reported me.
Since then, I lived my life normally. I tried remembering all these years but I haven't really recalled anything. This is the first time I'm at least getting vague flashes.
Sighing for the nth time this day, I parked and went out of my car with my bag as I walked to the front door. While I was walking slowly to the front door, I reached in my bag to take the key for the front door when suddenly—
"-mnrgh!"
Someone behind me covered my mouth and nose with a handkerchief. As I tried to struggle in my panic, I felt my consciousness go away as I increasingly grew drowsy.
Then... there was no then.
~ " . . . " ~
~= Nathalia PoV =~
I reached in for my earpiece and said, "Target secured. We're going to the transfer point."
After saying that, I carried her and back to her car and drove to the nearest subway. After we arrived, I carried her inside while pretending to grumble about her being drunk and whatnot so we would not appear that suspicious.
Being young women, we really didn't arouse suspicion and we entered the train successfully.
After getting off the train, Alec was waiting and we drove back in our car to our penthouse. The ride there was pretty quiet as none of us talked until we arrived back.
The two of us carried her inside and placed her on the couch in the living room.
"So that's her. I didn't expect our first meeting to be like this, being her kidnapper." Alexa broke the silence as she looked at the sleeping woman.
Nathalia glared at her and she immediately shut herself up.
Alec just smiled wryly and said, "Well technically, we did kidnap her. Though it's for her own good... but we did kidnap her with no explanation whatsoever."
"It's not your problem to worry about... if you're so free then GO check if anyone followed us!"
Alec flinched and just sighed before going to the basement to check.
Nathalia then looked at Alexa blankly, "What are you waiting for? Go follow him."
Alexa scratched her head with a wry smile and followed her brother hurriedly. If she spent another second here, she'll have to deal with an irritated Nathalia. And all she never wanted to deal with again was her anger.
After the two went left, she once again looked at the sleeping Julienne and her lips arced up looking at her delicate sleeping face.
Just as she was appreciating the sleeping woman's beauty, her phone suddenly rang.
**Riiiiiinnngg!**
Nathalia frowned for a bit before she took her phone from her left pocket and looked at who was calling. Her brows relaxed when she saw who it was and answered the call.
"Mom, what is it?" Nathalia said as soon as she answered.
[ "Oh nothing sweetie~ I'm just asking if you're alright?" ]
Nathalia smiled and assured her, "Mom, I'm okay. What can happen to me? I'm not a child anymore."
[ "Well... as a mother, it's natural for me to be quite worried for my daughter." ]
"I'm not a porcelain doll, mom. I can take care of myself." Nathalia chuckled and felt warm because of her mom's genuine worry.
[ "Hehehe~🤭 Alright, alright, little Nathalia can now take care of herself. I won't bother you anymore. Have a fun trip, sweetie~ ]
Nathalia smiled, "Of course, I'll have a nice trip here. Bye mom!"
[ "Bye sweetie~ Oh right, I almost forgot. Did you already buy gifts for your cousin. When you go to Japan to visit your brothers there after your trip, you can also visit your cousin. Say hi to him for me okay?" ]
"I already brought him gifts I'm sure he'll like. I'll visit him the day after tomorrow. Take care mom!" Nathalia said as she glanced at the boxes on the shelf.
The call ended and she took a look at Julienne's face again. After a few seconds of silence, she then dialed their private pilot to come pick them up. They had to leave urgently.
After talking with the pilot, Nathalia crouched down and took off Julienne's hoodie off her. She then grasped for the bug she placed in the hem of her hood when suddenly, she felt something else.
Her face paled and she immediately ripped it open and took out a small blinking chip.
"We're fucked..."
Just then, she felt a chill crawl up her spine and her heart started to beat loudly. She abruptly stood up from her place and looked out the window when—
**Crash!**
**Puchi!**
"Nathalia we're—!"
"Argghh-! Fuck! Fuck!"
Alec froze and stood in his place as he saw Nathalia hold the left side of her stomach while backing off. Alexa also followed behind him and saw her friend wounded.
"Nathalia! Wha-!"
"There's a sniper! Go drag Julienne down the basement!! HURRY!!!"
Nathalia crouched down and overturned the coffee table made from mahogany wood for cover. She then hurriedly opened the shelf and took out one of the unopened boxes she brought with her.
It's contents were some bullet proof vests and two kevlar helmets. Although the helmets were redundant in front of a sniper, she still put them on with the bullet proof vest quickly despite the pain. These things were the backup plan she bought in the black market in case things go south, she hissed in pain as she regretted not wearing it earlier.
She then crawled to the right where the stairs leading downstairs were. The three already left to the basement. There's a secret tunnel leading to the sewers there and they can hide for a while there while waiting for their pilot.
**Puchi!**
"ARGHHH! FUCK!!! FUCK YOU!!! MY LEG!!!!" Nathalia teared up as she gritted her teeth trying to endure the pain. Her left leg was shot.
Her eyes reddened as she continued to crawl while muttering under her breath, "You fuckers, I can't die here! NOT AGAIN!"
