Chương 2: Welcome to Republic City

A day had passed when Kai arrived in this world. He was now in an old room that Loui, the homeless old man gave to him. He changed out of his old clothes and wore a sleeveless shirt with the same earthy green colours, some pants, and a pair of brown boots. He sat on a ripped bed, with his hands folded as he stared at the ground, trying to remember what had happened to him.

The last thing he remembered was him in a bedroom sitting on top of a bunk bed with a laptop. He browsed the internet and a pop-up questionnaire appeared on his screen. He didn't have anything better to do, so he completed it. The first question stated if he was transmigrated, to which world would he go? He typed in Avatar: The Legend of Korra because he kinda liked the show, even though it wasn't on par with the story of The Last Airbender, it was still good nonetheless. And also he had a major crush on Korra, so...that too.

The next question stated what type of bending he would have. He thought about it for a while and typed: An Earthbender because when he was younger he always played with someone, who was also a fan of Avatar. Pretending he was an Earthbender and the other pretending he was a Firebender, and so, they did fantasy duels. He also wondered if they were the only ones who did that when they were younger.

He still answered a few questions about what he would look like etc, and when he was done, a submit button appeared on the top right corner of his screen. For some reason, he chuckled at the idea that he was going to get transmigrated if he clicked on the submit button, but as a mad titan once said: Reality is often disappointing...or so he thought. And when Kai clicked on the submit button, he blacked out and woke up here.

Kai thought about it for a while if he really was transmigrated to the world of Avatar. He read about this sort of thing and would sometimes dream that he would just leave his worthless life as an orphan and just travel to a different world and live differently. He was still pondering when he heard a voice coming from downstairs.

"Kai! Kai! Come on, kid, I brought some food!".

"Y-yeah, I'm coming!", replied Kai as he jumped out of his bed and raced downstairs.

Loui sat on his chair and took a metal pipe and stoked the fire a little bit.

"Oh, what I would wish for to be a Firebender right now, or maybe even a Waterbender", Mumbled the old man while he was taking some wood to fuel the fire.

The old man bought some noodles with the little money he had left. At first, he planned to have a big dinner for himself tonight, but what he didn't expect was a plus one, but that didn't bother him. He set the noodles in an old pot that he found a while back, filled it with water, and put it on the fire. After a few minutes, dinner was ready.

Kai was racing down the old rickety stairs and sat beside the old man, who was preparing his dinner. He looked at the old man who saved him and said with sincerity, "Hey, Loui, thanks for, umm...thanks for saving me out there. You know, ya didn't have to do all this for me, but you still went out of your way and, uh... helped me. I'm grateful. So, I just wanted to say thank you".

The old man looked at the boy with a bit of surprise, as he didn't expect him to be so well-mannered. At first, Because of his appearance, he thought that the boy would be a bit rude and scary, but... he was wrong. The old man gave a warm smile and said, "Oh, it's ok, kid. It was just the right thing to do. I couldn't just leave you out there in the rain".

Kai nodded and he and the old man ate their dinner and peacefully listened to the rain roaring.

(Two weeks later)

"Hey, kid. Rise and shine!", yelled out the old man.

Kai slowly opened up his eyes and yawned like a lion. His hair was rearranged chaotically and spit was hanging from the corner side of his mouth. He looked out the broken window next to him and saw that the weather had gotten better. It was raining non-stop for the last two weeks, so he didn't have a chance to go out.

He already saw people out and about, cars that looked like they came from the 1920s passing, and huge airships in the sky. The whole city had a sort of steampunk vibe to it. And this city was named...Republic City.

Kai still couldn't wrap his head around it. He was transmigrated to the world of Avatar and it wasn't all a big dream. Kai got out of his bed and went to wash up. He wore the same clothes because they were the only ones he had at the moment.

He decided last night that he was going to integrate himself into society and start a whole new life here in Republic City, but he didn't know how. And to figure that out, he had to explore Republic City.

Kai made his way downstairs where he greeted Loui, who was busy reading a newspaper.

"Morning Loui. Reading the paper, I see".

"Oh, morning, kid. Yeah, things are getting pretty heated out there. So be careful, alright", Informed Loui

"Oh, wait. I almost forgot. Here, It's some money I found". He threw a small pouch in my hands.

"Hehe, You got it Loui. Alright, I won't be long".

Kai wore a light brown jacket over his shirt and made his way out of the building. He was pretty excited about exploring the city and seeing if it was going to be like he saw in the show, but the biggest difference was that this was real life and as Loui said, he had to be careful. He walked towards the alleyway, where he was found by Loui. He could hear people clamouring and cars honking when he got closer, but he met with a dead end.

Not letting it stop him, he took a few steps back and ran at the wall at full speed. When he got closer, he stomped on the ground and the earth threw him in the air, where he hurriedly grabbed a ledge. His face was filled with excitement at what he had just done. Even after two weeks of training and getting familiar with his earthbending, he still couldn't believe he was doing it. His heart was pounding heavily, it looked like it wanted to jump out of his chest. His whole body filled with adrenaline, and he climbed further to the top of the wall without taking a break.

When he reached the top, he couldn't believe his eyes at what he was witnessing. He could feel the wind on his face, blowing his hair. He walked to the edge of the wall and marvelled at the glory of the beautiful city in front of him.

"Welcome to Republic City, Kai".
