Chương 79: Invitation From Empress Dowager
It was as the Crown Prince had said, the eunuch came the next day, and announced the privileges she would receive as Noble Princess.
She did get her manor, and many other gifts as well. She had indeed become a rich young miss with a fortune of her own. She even had her own Manor. According to Jiang Mama, she would be the first of her generation.
She would have her own maids serving her. Zhang Zhengyang released both Nuo Nuo and Lan'er to her, as well as Jiang Mama.
The Noble Princess manor wasn't that far from the Crown Prince's manor. But from now on it would be improper to visit him too often. He could no longer easily advise her, there would be a lot of things she would have to learn on her own.
Thankfully, Zhang Zhengyang had asked for Tang Rongyi's help. With someone like her around Zhao Xing he could somewhat be relieved. Their personalities matched, it would be easy for them to become good friends.
Zhang Zhengyang wasn't wrong on this aspect. Both Zhao Xing and Tang Rongyi did become good friends the day of the banquet. And she was even planning to extend her stay in the Capital, just so she could accompany Zhao Xing and aid her in becoming part of the high class society.
Normally she would go and greet the Empress after being conferred her title. But there was currently on one in this position. But Empress Dowager did summon her to the palace instead.
"Ah?"
"The empress dowager has summoned you to the palace." An elderly maid from the Palace, seemingly one the Empress Dowager's servants came with two others along with her.
Nuo Nuo nudged her, making her quickly regain her composure.
When the people from the palace left, Zhao Xing could finally breathe normally.
"Nuo Nuo…" Zhao Xing turned to them and started calculating in her mind.
The two stared at her.
"I have to see the Crown Prince."
The day Zhang Zhengyang had told her about saving him, she didn't have time to further discuss it. She had no clue what his actual motives where. That day she had been interrupted from asking, because of the ninth prince's sudden arrival. The week before the banquet she was so busy learning etiquette, even the Crown Prince didn't have time to see her all the time. Even the day before, he had returned home late, and they didn't discuss too much on the matter. And now when everything was cooling down she didn't know exactly why she followed up with this plan in the first place.
Now that she had been summoned to the palace to meet with the Empress Dowager, someone so highly respectable she suddenly felt something was wrong somewhere. Being a rich young miss was quite enjoyable. Getting out of the Crown Prince's hands and constant monitoring also felt good. But what did all this have to do with the Crown Prince's plan? If it did have any connections at all, then she had to discuss further with him on how to go about this meeting with his Imperial Grandmother.
"The Crown Prince isn't around…"
This statement irritated Zhao Xing, these days it has become more and more difficult to meet with the Prince.
She wondered what he has been up to lately.
Zhang Zhengyang on the other hand had indeed been up to a lot lately. Apart from the various meetings they had, some of his supporters already feared that their plans were at risk of being revealed. In addition to this, they also worried because the Emperor seemed to be in good health this past months. If he was in good health and prepared to take full reign of the court, things would no longer be that simple.
"Master, the Crown Prince just brought a random woman to the palace, no one was there the day he was attacked, how can he just say, this lady saved him, and the lady acted in such a refined manner…she doesn't look like someone that lived in the mountains having a hard life, ah!" Eunuch Zhou stood attentively beside the Emperor, with his body inclined as if not to miss a single word his master says. The recent happenings had really confused him, his master had taken various steps he couldn't understand. He didn't dare ask, and could only speculate. But there was a very effective way of getting information, and that was to make wild guesses, and think out loud. It was dangerous and he could get punished for it but this was the only way he could think of.
The Emperor smiled as he listened to him. "What do you think? We had a problem, and the Crown Prince brought up such a good opportunity, wouldn't it be a waste no to make use of it?" Said the Emperor.
Hearing this, Eunuch Zhou seemed to have been enlightened. 'So that's how it is!'
"It's still Master that's the wisest." He praised.
It didn't matter if the Crown Prince was telling the truth or not. In addition most of those in the court must also have come to this realization, that was why even if they had apprehensions concerning the Emperor's decision, they wouldn't dare to say them out loud. Who would be so silly? Except if they wanted the punishment to start from them.
The Crown Prince sat at a tea house, looking out the window from the first floor with Xiao Chen standing beside him.
"Crown Prince this step seems to have been a very dangerous one…" Xiao Chen observed.
Zhang Zhengyang smiled, "Have I ever taken a safe step before?"
"…" It was true that nothing they did was ever safe. If they played it safe, they'd do all they could to be known to others as idle and incompetent, in that case no one would care about them, but the Crown Prince deliberately exposed himself to the public, instead of hiding, or disguising himself, he intentionally stood out.
"But what about those on your side?" Xiao Chen worried that the Crown Prince would lose supporters this way. People feared downfall, especially these nobles. Anything that no longer benefit them, they would run from it like rats fleeing a wrecked ship.
But his master didn't answer him. Zhang Zhengyang retracted his eyes from the window and looked at him, then asked, "How are things progressing on the Poison Master's side?"
